Recognizing the Outstanding Humanitarians: Leonard Cheshire and Sue Ryder

The rich legacy of service of the War Hero Group Captain Leonard Cheshire towards the vulnerable and marginalized has been kept alive through the homes for the Disabled in India as well as in the UK, Australia and New Zealand and other countriesWe were awed and delighted by a news item recounting an effort of the Diocese of East Anglia in England initiating a campaign for Sainthood of Leonard Cheshire. There is also a suggestion of the joint canonisation of Sue Ryder and Leonard Cheshire recognizing and honouring them for their outstanding work in service of humanity. This certainly would be a fitting recognition of their extraordinary humanitarian efforts in the field of disability and of setting up residential homes for the disabled, which stemmed from their very strong faith. We will continue to keep track of this news.
