Message from the Chamber President – Drew Anlas:
Are we doing enough for you?
As the Jersey Shore Chamber of Commerce President, I am fre-quently asked the following question. “How is our chamber different from other chambers of commerce and how can it help me as a local business owner”?
First, with our dedicated staff and board of directors guidance we are currently hosting over 80 events per calendar year that give mem-bers every opportunity to be seen and heard by a significant number of people over the course of the year. Some of the highlights of what we have done to help membership:
• Weekly coffee connector breakfast with affordable speaker and sponsor opportunities.
• Business after hours that gives you a chance to showcase your place of business.
• Advertising opportunities in our Map produced every 2 years and distributed locally.
• Ad campaigns in conjunction with the chamber to advertise your business on print, us-ing social media, website and radio.
• Memorial Day summer kickoff celebration at various local restaurants welcoming sum-mer business to the Jersey Shore.
• Our annual business expo, golf outing, & summer scholarship BBQ are some of the other events.
The biggest benefit however, is our membership and what each of you is willing to do to help other members. I have personally witnessed many of you going out of your way to make sure a new member or existing member is connected with other members that could help grow their business. Or taken it upon yourself to utilize the current membership for products and services you could otherwise get elsewhere. Also, there are many of you who will go above and beyond, helping with member’s charities or local causes. As I said in the last newsletter “your success is our concern” and I see that at work here in our Jersey Shore Chamber of Com-merce.
So remember, you the members of the Jersey Shore Chamber of Commerce are the reason why we are successful, both as a chamber of com-merce and as local business people. Your positive ac-tions during my tenure here cannot be overstated. We appreciate all you do and I personally thank you for your involvement with the Jersey Shore Chamber of Commerce.
All the best!
Drew Anlas

Using Barter to Market Your Business By Lisa Vitale
Every type of small business can benefit from strategic marketing. Whether you own a landscaping company or an extermi-
nation business, you need a strong marketing strategy in order to develop brand awareness and increase sales. But effec-
tive marketing costs money, and small businesses often lack the cash flow necessary to develop a marketing campaign. If
you’re a member of a local barter exchange, though, you don’t need to rely on your cash flow to start marketing. By using
barter to market your business, you’re increasing your visibility in the marketplace and gaining new customers, but saving
cash while doing so.
Barter networks, like BarterPays! in Howell, have many members that can offer you a variety of marketing solutions avail-
able on trade. Interested in advertising? Use barter dollars to advertise via direct mail, radio ads, magazines and more.
Looking to get more involved in social media? You can barter with social media experts to help you navigate Twitter, Face-
book, and LinkedIn and improve your online presence. Website designers can create a custom, user-friendly site for your
business, and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) pros increase your website’s visibility by improving its ranking in Internet
search results. Graphic designers and printers produce sleek and creative marketing materials for your company, and it’s all
available on barter! You can even sweeten your marketing campaign with a little candy—member candy shops can barter
custom chocolate business cards!
Business owner Stanley Goldstein, who has traded over three million ($3,000,000) in sales during his 20 years as a Barter-
Pays! member may have said it best: “My favorite thing to get on barter is cash customers from my media purchases.” He
wisely uses his trade dollars to fund advertising and marketing efforts for his security and surveillance company, and as a
result, receives new cash customers. Using barter to market your business through a variety of channels ultimately leads to
more money in your wallet.
For more information about BarterPays! or to apply for membership, please call 732-364-4614 or visit

Spring has sprung and summer won’t be far behind
Chores has some helpful hints for creating an inviting outdoor living
area for the summer months ahead
Start with a clean slate:
• Power-wash the house, deck patio, sidewalks, etc.. paying special
attention to the north side of the house where green mold loves to
grow.
• Wipe/wash all outdoor furniture, umbrellas, pergolas and clean/
wipe down all windows and doorways.
• Dryer vents could be an eyesore if full of lint or if the area the vent
is blowing onto is full of lint. The vent should be cleaned and the
external area that collects the lint swept on a regular basis.
A fresh coat of paint/stain goes a long way:
• Paint/stain entry areas of the house such as moldings around sliders, doorways, doors, kick plates, columns, decking,
spindles, wood furniture and fencing to create a fresh spring clean look. Don’t forget the mailbox too.
• Create a color scheme. Painting mismatched garden pots to match the color of your shutters/door is a great way to
create a clean pallet while being very pleasing to the eye.
• A fresh coat of paint can make a faded grill look like new.
There are some things in life that do not last forever:
• Cushions are probably one of the least expensive, yet most effective ways, to create a completely new look to your
clean/painted furniture.
• Replace any broken or rusted pots, flower hangers, hooks, solar/outdoor lighting, furniture, umbrellas, etc..
• Hoses, nozzles, sprinklers, and the insides of grills often need to be replaced if stored outdoors all winter.
Create a cozy area for the hot days and cool evenings:
• Hanging planters, floor level potted flowers and potted flowers in stands all look great when grouped together as they
can provide symmetry to an area.
• Add splashes of color and texture throughout your outdoor space with throw pillows and rugs.
• String lights are not just for Christmas anymore. Wrap some string lights around your trees, in your potted plants, or on
the deck to create a warm, inviting glow.
• Wind chimes come in all types of designs and sizes. Including some in your outdoor area will add to the relaxing feel.
Utilizing some of these tips will help create an inviting, cozy and relaxing outdoor space for you and your family to enjoy all
summer long. If you would like help implementing any of these ideas give us a call at 732-204-7388. Your time living at the
Jersey Shore should never be tied down with chores.

THE 4 MOST IMPORTANT REASONS TO USE A TRAVEL AGENCY TO BOOK YOUR NEXT VACATION:
1. BEST PRICE
Many people assume that going online guarantees the best price, but ask yourself if you have ever seen ANY proof of that.
Surveys done by Money Magazine, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, ABC News, and many more confirm that the old-fashioned,
brick and mortar agencies win out every time!
And of course, you have nothing to lose, asking for a price comparison and a second opinion.
2. FREE EXPERT ADVICE
Getting the cheapest price online is easy - finding the best VALUE is a lot more difficult.
Think of your travel agent, as your human, travel-related search engine - at no cost to you.
As a matter of fact - YOU are paying for the services of a travel agent, even if you book your reservation online, yourself.
Travel agents get paid a commission by the vendors we work with (Disney, Royal Caribbean, hotels, etc. and even Expedia)
IF you book it yourself with Expedia, you will NOT get a better price, because YOU did all the work!
Expedia (and Disney, Royal Caribbean, etc) will just keep the commission they would normally pay to a travel agent.
In summary: YOU do all the work. You are making Expedia richer, and you are denying yourself the experienced AND unbi-
ased service of a service that has already been paid for.
3. 24/7 EMERGENCY SERVICE
Answered by a real human being, right away!
No Gnomes working here!
We know what the airline rules and regulations are and have assisted our clients through many hurricanes, snowstorms
and earthquakes .
We know how to get same day passports and last minute visas, and have assisted with same day weddings and same day
divorces!
4. SHIFT THE RISK
Did you know, that
• going to Mexico, your passport needs to be valid for 6 months past your return date?
• all cruise lines will refuse boarding if you are in your third trimester of your pregnancy?
• every month, people end up in Sydney, Nova Scotia, instead of Sydney, Australia?
• a direct flight is not the same as a nonstop flight?
• if your kids have a different last name and are under 18, you will need additional documentation?
There are so many things that could go wrong.... don't take a chance!
Don't let an inexpensive vacation, turn into an expensive mistake.
All Travel Consultants at Excel Travel have at least 25 years of experience, and will gladly do a price comparison for you,
assist with a second opinion or help you with your travel plans from A to Z.

MOTION IS LIFE
BY DR. TONY GARROW
The human body is an amazingly complex system of bones, joints, mus-
cles, and nerves, designed to work together to accomplish one thing:
MOTION.
Remember that motion is life.
Everything about the human body is designed with motion in mind:
your delicate nerve fibers stimulate your strong muscles to contract,
then your strong muscles contract to move the hard bones, then your
hard bones move around structured joints, and your nervous system, which is the brain and spinal cord…
controls it all.
As a matter of fact, research has shown that motion is so critical to your body’s health that a lack of motion has a detrimen-
tal affect on everything from your digestion to your emotional state, immune function, your ability to concentrate, how
well you sleep and even how long you live.
If your lifestyle does not include enough MOTION, your body cannot function efficiently.
First, you will not be as physically healthy and will suffer from a wide variety of physical ailments, ranging from headaches
to high blood pressure.
Second, you will not be as productive in your life because of reduced energy levels and the lack of ability to mentally focus.
Third, because you will have less energy, your activity level will tend to drop off even further over time, creating a down-
ward spiral of reduced energy and less activity until you get to a point where even the demands of a sedentary job leave
you physically exhausted at the end of the day.
YOU should find people who specialize in keeping motion in your body, joints, and spine to help be healthier and feel bet-
ter.

HONEY BEE TROUBLE. CAN YOU LEND A BEE A HAND!
By: Victor Coppola with GreenWorks • www.greenworksllc.com
The Honey Bees really could use your help. Since the ‘90’s , Honey Bee
colonies have been disappearing at an alarming rate from Colony Col-
lapse Disorder (CCD). Thi rty Five states (and many countries abroad)
have reported losing from 30% to over half of thei r bee colonies. So
what’s the big deal (you might ask)? Well, jus t try to imagine life with-
out the Honey Bee – i t would be pretty bleak!
Bees and US Agriculture
US Agricul ture depends on the Honey bee to pollinate the plants so frui t will set. In fact, 1 in 3 bi tes either di -
rectly (or indi rectly) can be attributed to the benefi ts of pollination from Honey Bees. Local native pollinating in-
sects jus t can’t do the job all on thei r own. Without the Honey Bee, many of your favorite frui ts and vegetables
would be too expensive to produce.
Companies Getting Involved
Many Companies are taking matters in to thei r own hands . Haagen-Dazs ice cream has taken the matter to heart
and set up a Help Save the Honey Bee websi te that educates you about CCD, the research they support, what
you can do to help and a whole bunch of cool bee info. They’ve even helped create a Honey Bee Haven. Check i t
out!
Corporate Social Responsibility
Getting involved in envi ro issues is not new, in fact i t’s called Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Many compa-
nies are learning that giving back to thei r community and envi ronment actually pays huge dividends . We all
benefi t from CSR and consumers are s tarting to take notice as well.

Neuropathy Treatment
Do you experience tingling, numbness, burning or sharp
pains? You might have peripheral neuropathy. Peripheral
neuropathy is a neurological condition where the nerves
under the skin are impaired resulting in sensory changes.
Some of the symptoms associated with neuropathy are
cramping, pain when walking, difficulty sleeping from leg/
foot discomfort (Restless Leg Syndrome) and pricking/
tingling sensations.
You are not alone as neuropathy effects 10 to 20 million
Americans. Many neuropathy sufferers go undiagnosed or
are discouraged by their diagnosis because it is a progres-
sive disorder and there is no drug or surgical solution.
Painkillers are not the answer to the problem and simply mask some of the pain related symptoms while not addressing
the numbness. Neuropathy has many causes. It can be spinal or back problems, inflammation, diabetes, hereditary disor-
ders, medication side effects, cancer treatments or a variety of other causes for onset.
At Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation we offer a neuropathy treatment program that can effectively eliminate all symp-
toms. Many practitioners are unable to take the time required to effectively execute the intensive therapies required to
reverse neuropathy symptoms. Here at Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation we dedicate ourselves to your recovery.
Our practitioners create customized treatment plans incorporating cutting edge technology to address and correct your
condition. The PowerPlate provides multi-directional vibration therapy specifically benefitting neuropathy patients by im-
proving strength, balance, circulation, flexibility, proprioception and neurological processes in general. We also use a low-
level laser therapy (LLLT). This laser uses infrared light to stimulate healing. This is a newly developed, non-invasive tech-
nology that triggers the body’s natural healing ability and has been proven to work wonders on peripheral neuropathy
symptoms. Monmouth Pain is a group of Physicians, Physical Therapists, Chiropractors, Acupuncturists and Massage Thera-
pists working together to offer patients the most comprehensive, well rounded and successful plans of pain management
imaginable. We treat the whole patient— addressing physical, emotional, and social needs—in order to put an end to pain
and disability and restore the body to normal or improved movement. If you are experiencing symptoms of neuropathy
and you are ready to experience relief and healing contact the Monmouth Pain and Rehabilitation Neuropathy program
today at 732-345-1377 to schedule a free consultation.

What would you pay to have 30 – 70 potential customers in front of you at once? Joining the JSCC allows the Chamber to flourish and provides an important business incubator for startups and entrepre-neurs. Let’s face it, the past two years have proven that we all share the same national economy. Whether your business has 300 employees or you are the “chief cook and bottle washer,” a vibrant chamber allows startups the best opportunity to reach customers, test their business models and grow into success. Your chamber membership is about more than reaching customers. Even the largest of companies in our area can do their part in supporting the community around them.
