Message from the Executive Director

We must be having fun because time just flies! 2014 has been very exciting, and busy! We were successful in applying for one-time funding from the government, the Champlain LHIN (Local Health Integrated Network), to make improvements here at the Centre. We were able to change the location of the door that opened into the dining/activity room; add automatic door openers to the inside and outside doors of both the front and side entrances; Terry now has a new workstation; and we now have headsets for our telephones; we upgraded our computers; and, purchased individual thermal bags for Hot Meals on Wheels delivery.

A new activity here at the Centre is an exercise class, funded by the Champlain LHIN. The classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-10am, with new Friday classes starting on January 9th from 11 am -12 noon. There is no charge for these classes. Once again, this past November, we were treated to a great performance “Chic to Sheik”, directed by Louise Atchison, in which the Sing’n, Swing’n Seniors were dressed in 1920’s finery, and serenaded us with delightful music!

The Board has worked hard in planning and attending various meetings; including working on items such as our new logo. We are very excited to be working with Tom Graham and his Team from TD Graham & Associates, in the development of our logo and our website which is now up and running. Please check it out at www.kdhsi.com and let us know what you think. Comments are always welcome!

I recently came across something that I would like to share with you as we head into 2015. This is Nathalie Golberg’s variation of ‘Evening Chant”:

I beg to urge you everyone: Life and Death are a Great Matter

Awaken, awaken, awaken Time passes quickly

Do not waste this precious life.

Time does pass very quickly. Here are a few questions to challenge all of us: Are we remaining engaged with others? What about our health? Are we keeping up with our check-ups? Exercising to our capabilities (and with our health provider’s ok)? Helping others; or, allowing others to help us? And, as the season of treats is upon us, are we remembering that proper nutrition and drinking enough water are vital toward feeling at our best?

I do know that what engages each of us is very individual. Here at the Centre there are a variety of activities, services and volunteer opportunities that I encourage people to check out.

Wishing everyone the very best of the Christmas Season. Susan

Volunteers who are too busy to stop and have their picture taken…

The Alzheimer Society Leeds Grenville now has a local satellite office here

at the Centre. Mary Campbell, Education and Support Coordinator, will be

here the first Friday of each month from 9am-4pm.

To arrange for a time to meet with Mary, to discuss any questions or

concerns, please call 1-866-576-8556 to set a time.

To all of those who have supported Kemptville & District Home

Support over the past year, ‘Thank You So Very Much!’

As a charitable and non-profit organization we rely on donations, in-memoriam, and planned giving, to continue providing quality programs and services in this community. Charitable receipts are provided for donations given during the year. We continue to be supported by our KDHSI clients, volunteers and staff; and, Independent Order of Oddfellows Grenville Lodge, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 212, Knights of Columbus, Kemptville Lions Club, Klub 67, Champlain LHIN /Ministry of Health, United Way Leeds & Grenville, local businesses and community members.

Again this year the local media helped to highlight the programs and services available through Kemptville & District Home Support. Many thanks to the North Grenville Times, Kemptville Advance and Juice 97.5 FM. You have helped to make a difference in the lives of Seniors and Adults

with physical disabilities in the Municipality of North Grenville.

Merry Christmas
