It is incredibly exciting to have more than 3500 students in St
Aloysius PU College. The outstanding result of 96.3% in the II PUC
Board exam 2016 has doubled the number of applicants for this
academic year. The overwhelming response of both parents and
students towards the all round excellence has boosted our
growth.Jesuit education motivates every student to broaden the
mental horizons by excelling not only in academics and
extra-curricular but also become good human beings serving the
society. St Aloysius Gonzaga , Patron of our College is an example
of compassion and ded-ication towards humankind to every youth of
our campus.This E-newsletter is an initiative to reach out to all
our well wishers and benefactors and update them about the
happenings in PU College. This edition covers the accomplishments
and activities of June-July 2016 .I am grateful for the unflinching
efforts of the staff and students towards earning a distinguished
standard in all round excel-lence. Your valuable suggestions on the
E-Magazine will surely help us.

Save the trees Campaign 04 June
The citizens of Mangalore along with the Students and Staff of
St Aloysius PU College organized 'Save the Trees’ March on
Saturday, 4th June 2016 at 2 pm to condemn the proposed felling of
39 trees for road widening pur-pose on the Court Road,
Karangalpady, Mangalore. This campaign was the brainchild of our
Principal Rev. Fr Melwin Mendonca SJ. Rev Fr Leo D’Souza SJ, Rector
Rev. Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ, Dr Ganesh Amin, Dean and Mr Shridhar
–Environmental activist addressed the gathering. The March began
from the starting point of the court road and ended at the entrance
of St Aloysius PU College next to SCDCC bank.The students also
initiated a demonstration in this regard on June 7th 2016 at 1 pm
in the college pretorium.
Orientation - i PU 06 JuneThe I PU Students Orientation
programme was held on 6th June 2016. The students were given a warm
welcome.The toppers of the PU board exam motivated the new comers
by sharing their experience. The Rector Rev. Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ
addressed the students. The programme was attended by 2000 newly
admitted students.

Fresher’s Orientation Mass for II PU06 June07 June
A Short meeting for the new teaching staff was con-ducted on 6th
June 2016 at 3pm. The Vice Prin-cipal, Mrs Rekha Alva conducted the
session. She congratulated and welcomed the new teaching staff and
briefed them about the general rules and reg-ulations. .
The Eucharistic Mass for the II PU Catholic Students was
celebrated on 7th June 2016 at 9.00 a.m in the Loyola Hall. Rev. Fr
Pradeep Sequiera was the Main Celebrant. Rev Fr Melwin Mendonca SJ
and Rev. Fr John Lang Bosco SJ were the Co- Celebrants.
workshop on reptiles - Snakes08 June
A guest lecture on “Snakes” , organized by the Eco-club was held
on 8th June, in connection with the World En-vironment Day with the
theme “Go wild for life”. Mr Adithya Puthraya, founder member of
We-for wildlife, uncovered the spectacular diversity of snakes,
their systems & thier pivotal role in ecosystem.

Elections 09 JuneThe college election of St Aloysius PU College
was conducted on 9 June 2016. The class and Cultural
represen-tatives were chosen in their respective classes by their
classmates for all the 50 batches. The II PUC Class and Cultural
representatives assembled later for the election of II PU Office
Bearers.Shreyash Seetharam Shetty was elected student Council
President, Sonal D’Souza was elected Student council Secretary and
Hazel D’Souza was elected Joint Secretary of the College for the
academic year 2016-2017.

The Catholic students of I PU attended the Eucharistic
Celebration on 9th June 2016, 9 am in the Loyola hall. The mass was
offered by the Rector, Rev. Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ for the intentions
of I PU students. Rev Fr Melwin Mendonca SJ and Rev. Fr John Lang
Bosco were the Co- Celebrants.
Orientation for hostel / pAYING gUESTS students10 June
The orientation programme for Students staying away from parents
was organized on 10 June 2016 in Loyal Hall at 3.15 PM. The Guest
speaker Mrs Sandra Sunitha Lobo, Professor of Psychology
department, School of Social work, Roshni Nilaya Mangalore
addressed the gathering.

Felicitation1 1 JuneA felicitation ceremony was organized for
the distinction holders of II PU board exams 2016 at St Aloysius PU
College, Mangalore at 3pm on 11 June 2016. Dr Derek Lobo, former
Regional Director of UN, WHO South East Asia addressed the
distinction holders and their parents.
Book distribution13 JuneAn outreach programme was undertaken by
the members of CAUSE to organize distribution of note books to the
less privileged studentsof SAPUC .It was held on 13th June 2016.
The Chief Guest Mr Madan, sub-inspector of police, Mangaluru north
police station distributed the books to over 150 students.

Preparation for the feast of St ALOYSIUS Gonzaga15 JuneIn
preparation for the feast of St Aloysius Gonzaga, a short programme
was organized by the students on 15 June 2016 , presenting his life
history and melodious songs were sung in honour of the great Saint.
On June 20th 2016, a skit was enacted on the previous day of the
feast by AICUF and CLC members portraying his life, giving us all a
message to serve mankind and become men and women for others.
Annual Retreat 1 7 JuneTo focus on the Spiritual aspects of
human life, St Aloysius PU College organized the Annual Retreat for
Cath-olic Students on 17 and 18 June 2016 in Divine Mercy Church at
Fatima Retreat House, Jeppu, Mangalore.Rev Fr Jacob Arimpur,
Assistant Director of Divine Retreat Centre, Potta and his team,
Bro. Colin Calmiano, Bro Oliver and Sister Maria Sangeeta, Sister
Monisha Mathias and Bro Vivian, the preachers, helped the
youngsters spend a day in prayer and contemplation. Over 1300
Catholic Students and the faculty members participated in this
solemn programme.

Leadership Programme1 7 June

underwent a leadership programme on 17 and 18 June 2016. This
workshop on leadership skills was organised at AIMIT Beeri for I
and II PUC Class and Cultural Representatives.

Orientation for the Non Catholics 1 7 JuneOrientation programme
for Non Catholic Students was conducted on Friday, 17th June 2016
and Saturday, 18th June 2016. It included six sessions of one hour
thirty minutes each. A total of 180 sessions were conducted by 56
staff members. Topics encompassed Stress Management, My Self Image
and Self Esteem, What Ado-lescents Ought To Know, Examination
Blues, You And Friendship, Make The Most Of Your Potential, Say No
To Addiction, Positive Impact Of Prayer On Life, Counselling And
Guidance, Personality Development, Social Responsibilities,
Effective Use Of Mass Media etc.

Feast of ST Aloysius Gonzaga21 June
The feast of St Aloysius Gonzaga, the patron Saint of our
college was celebrated on 21 June 2015 at 9am in the Loyola hall.
Rev. Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ was the main celebrant with 14 other
co-celebrants celebrated the mass. The theme of Eucharistic mass
was St Aloysius – Model of God’s mercy. A large number of students
were present for the offertory .On this Occasion more than 2,500
students were present. After the mass, St Aloysius Gonzaga’s statue
was blessed by Rev. Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ, Rector of St Aloysius
Institutions.

Members of NSS and Eco Club celebrated vanamahotsava by planting

Lady students’ Orientation 2 4 JuneThe Class Room orientation
programme for lady students of I PUC was organized by women’s forum
on 24th June 2016 at 3.15pm. The Lecturers addressed the students
on relevant topics, helping them to have a better understanding of
life.
Chemistry workshop2 7 June
Mr. Muralikrishna G M and Mr. Shivaraj K of Chemistry Department
attended a one day workshop ‘Chal-lenges in teaching PU chemistry’
on 27.06.2016 at Shree Rama Pre-university college Kalladka ,
Bantwal taluk. The workshop was organised by Dakshina Kannada PU
lecturer association.

Sanjana rajagopal
Trained in Bharathanatiyam for more than 10 years, Sanjana has
performed her solo debut Rangapravesha on 8th May 2016 at Mangalore
town Hall. She has also done her 6th Grade in communication from
Trinity College of London with distinction. A versatile singer, a
guitarist has compeered many programmes including events at SAPUC.
The College acclaims your achievements and wishes you the best for
your future endeavours.

II PU BOARD EXAM TOPPPERS-2016
The students of St Aloysius PU College have made the Institution
proud with 96.3% in the II PU Board Exam. The Science results are
97.6%, Commerce 95.1% and Arts 90.2%.Out of 1367 students who
appeared in the Board Exam 1316 students have cleared the exam. The
Institution is proud of all the students. The Science students have
made us happy with 97.6%. We have 285 Distinctions and 862 First
class.

This academic year, the College has newly introduced Toppers
Batch which includes aspirants of various compet-itive exams like
CET, JEE, NEET etc. Students who have performed exceptionally well
in their respective Board exam have been admitted in this separate
batch with a motive of preparing to excel in academics as well as
other exams. A separate library facility is made available to such
students to access academic and competitive exam books. They also
have special coaching on weekends and experienced staff engage
classes for this batch.

Dedicated on 21st June 2016, the Statue of St Aloysius Gonzaga ,
a gift of the Senior Class of 2013-15 Batch was Blessed by the
Rector Rev. Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ . The statue represents the saint
carrying in his arms a victim of the plague.
