Company Introduction

Metal Locking Service Inc., founded in 1942, employs a precise, mechanical method of making permanent repairs to broken castings andmachine parts.
No heat is used, thus no stresses are introduced and no post-repairmachining is necessary to correct misalignment and warpage. Since there isno heat, metal locking repairs can be made in restricted areas whereflames or welding arc is prohibited. Repairs are often made on location inthe plant, without the necessity of major dis-assembly.
Maintaining production and reducing down time of broken equipmentpresents many new challenges. Solutions are arrived at after a carefulanalysis and then applying our experience to make a proper, dependablerepair. The quality and craftsmanship thus achieved have earned for us therecommendation and endorsement of equipment manufacturers, insuranceunderwriters and inspection services.
We are proud of the ever-increasing list of satisfied customers which is becoming world-wide in scope.
The picture stories which follow are an attempt to show a cross section of repair applications. Most are“maintenance” repairs on equipment in use. It should be noted, however, that a substantial portion of our businessis on new equipment and castings. Foundry casting faults, mishandling and improper machining duringproduction, all contribute to the need for our service.
We welcome the opportunity to make an appraisal of your equipment repair problem.

Another form of lock is this metal inlay, alsoknown as master lock. Size, shape andmetal used for inlay varies with therequirements of each repair or equipmentoperation. This is used in areas of highstress concentration, particularly where it is
necessary to dissipate local stress over wider area; gain strength frominternal ribs; or to obviate local cavitation such as sand holes, etc.
Preformed locks of hightensile alloy are inserted into
the slot. These locks are peenedinto the slots, one on top of theother, to a depth limited by thecasting thickness and determinedby the strength required.
Metal between each drilledhole is removed by ripping it
away with pneumatic tools to forma slot. The stock thus removed isnarrower than the drilled hole, thus forming a serrated opening.
Drilling fixture is attached atright angles to the crack. A
hole pattern is drilled and this isrepeated at intervals from 3/4 to 11/4 inches apart.
Entire repair area ispeened flush and finish
ground as you see here.
After the locks are installed, holes are drilled, tapped and threadedfasteners are applied. These are spotted along the entire length of the crack,
overlapping one another. Their purpose, in part, is to fill the fracture with newmetal and provide a pressure seal.
