Gradient forecasting typically goes toward less action than more –especially if the gradient has already been set-up.

Mesoscale forces can trump synoptic scale motions along a gradient.

An increasing pressure gradient aligned with a large lake will induce lower pressure over the lake and cause an isallobaric component of the wind toward the lake (dry advection for MSN)
