Funding Criteria

• Métis person;

• Established residency in BC with six months in the Region;

• Unemployed; or

• Under-employed; or

• Self-employed; or

• For employment maintenance;

• The minimum eligible age is fifteen (15) years of age.

Application Requirements

- Application package given to clients;

- Photocopy of Métis identification from resident’s region;

- Photocopy of resume;

- Letter of Acceptance from training institution;

- Proof of registration at a training institute;

- Accurate costs for school term, program or Continuing Education courses;

- Copy of career search from workfutures.bc.ca website;

- Transcript(s) from high school or post-secondary institute.

Terms of Funding

• Maximum training time is 64 weeks (equal to two full school years);

• Training must result in a certificate, diploma, or degree;

• If program is two years, MHRDA can fund both years;

• If program is three or four years, then MHRDA cannot fund first year.

• Clients have a choice of being funded for the second year (diploma) and then the last year (degree); OR

• Clients may opt for third and fourth years of program.

Who Does MHRDA Fund?

Four Client Categories:

- ‘Regular’ clients are not eligible for EI and areover 30 years old;

- ‘Youth’ clients are between the ages of 15 and 30 years. Also not eligible for EI;

- ‘EI’ clients are eligible for EI and can also be between 15 and 30 years old;

- ‘EI Disability’ clients are those who collectDisability subsidizing.
