In a move to aggressively build on its national reputation as an environmentally friendlytransportation agency, Metro has engaged in an innovative public-private partnership.

In early 2008, Metro entered into a public-private partnership with Chevron Energy Solutions to build one of the largest “green” transportation facilities in the nation. When concluded, Metro’s Support Services Center (MSSC) will see its energy bill of nearly$1 million a year cut in half to approximately $555,000 a year.

Specifi cally, this “green” public-private initiative will involve:> Completion of a 1 megawatt solar energy panel system. > Installation of state-of-the-art lighting systems. > Replacement of old HVAC and compressed air systems with energy effi cient models. > Installation of a state-of-the-art Energy Management System to effi ciently manage all electrical systems and equipment.> Guarantee on energy savings, solar generation and rebates/incentives.

As part of this innovative “green” public-private partnership, over $5.3 million in tax rebates and incentives are being made available from the City of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, the Gas Company, and the South Coast Air Quality Management District.

Equivalent reductions over 20 years: > 20,000 cars not driven for one year

> 10,000,000 gallons of gasoline saved

> 208,000 barrels of oil saved

> 11,400 households electricity use saved for one year

> 720 acres of forest saved from deforestation

> 450 rail cars of coal saved
