In my many travels and contacts with people I am asked that question over and over. The best answer that I have for that question is “It’s the best kept secret in Springfield”. Depressed? Feeling melancholy or sad? Wayne Dyer, motivational speaker, who has appeared on Merv Griffin, Phil Donahue, and Oprah.com, comments, “Depression is inertia.” It can feel like that, stuck in despair. Unable to move, laugh, connect with others, feel alive. Imagine how much more you will accomplish when you dump depression! Depression is like slamming the door on the joy of life itself. Research shows that women are twice as likely to experience feelings of depression than men. So…women,

First, realize that depression is something you have or feel. It is not who you are. “Ok Sher”, (I hear you thinking) , “here you go with that change your mind thing again.” Think of it this way…a person with diabetes is not the disease of diabetes, she is a person with the condition of diabetes. This changes the perception from unchangeable (I am this) to changeable (this is a condition I have). You are not what you feel, you are not depressed, you are merely a person who is feeling depression. By saying “I feel…” rather than “I am…”, you put the feeling outside of yourself. Now that you realize that depression is just something you feel, not who you are, you can do something about it!

body feels, what others think of you.
