The following amendments are hereby made as part of the Contract Documents. The following revisions and/or additions shall be made to contract documents and the cost shall be included in the Tender Price.
1.0 CLARIFICATION
1.1 The following shall apply to all seven (7) buildings included in the MET20-102 Tender ID unless otherwise noted.
1.1.1 Proponent Questions:
.1 “Existing conventional initiating circuit on level 2 shall be upgraded to addressable. All existing field devices (pull stations, smoke detectors, monitoring modules) shall be removed and replaced with SLC “signaling line circuit” compatible addressable devices.”
Q-These devices are not quantified on any of the drawings? Is there a count ofexisting feel devices to be used for tender?”

1.1.1 Surface Raceway (refer to specification section 26 27 19.00):
.1 All fire alarm cables installed within surface raceways shall be independently armoured cables.
.2 Non-metallic raceways shall be permitted for installations within individual tenant suites. Raceway cross-sectional size shall be permitted to be smaller than 48mm wide x 22mm deep; however, contractor shall ensure that armoured FAS cable can be installed within full length of raceway (including all required elbows, fittings and transition accessories).
1.1.2 Cable routing within individual tenant suites:
.1 An alternate routing will be permitted from the corridor NAC Isolators to the suite bedroom Piezo Horn:
.1 Provide surface mounted raceway on wall of suite entry, from corridor wall to bedroom wall. Armoured FAS cable to serve new Piezo Horn outlet box via bedroom wall assembly.
.2 Refer to attached sketches ESK-11, 21, 31, 32, 41, 51, 61, and 71.

.1 S+A Response: A quantity of devices to be upgraded in each building to follow in separate addendum.
.2 “Sweet isolator devices shall be installed recessed within the Corredor walls. Fire alarm cable she’ll be pulled within the wall; entering above the ACT ceiling, or from the back plate of the surface mounted raceway.
Q-Is entering a cable into the back of a raceway allowed as per the Canadianelectrical code or will this require a raceway fitting to properly enter the raceway?If this is so Would it not be more feasible to just mount a box approved for the usein the race way to mount the isolation module as opposed to fittings, fishingcables and cutting holes? Keeping mind the ACM in the buildings. There shouldalso be a cost savings in using this method.”
.1 S+A Response: The fire alarm cable shall be independently armoured, and therefore the raceway is being used only for cable management and aesthetics.
.3 “Fire alarm cable (isolated suit NAC circuits) shall be installed within the ceiling cavity above the individual sweet washrooms. Cable Shelby fished with minimal gypsum disruption using Rigid Fish tape.
Q-Taking ACM into account there will be significant drywall disturbance to fishacross the open ceiling as discussed during the walk-through. This will alsocreate several return trips to repair and correct the gypsum disruption. There wasalso discussion about impact to the client making multiple trips into the dwellingunits as well as having to clear out closet space. There would be much lessimpact to the clients and potential cost savings to run surface mount racewaythrough the entire unit as was the installation in Sir John Thompson Manor.”

.5 “The Raceway Spec for all the buildings in the MET20-102 Project is based upon:
Legrand 2400 series single channel steel raceway
This raceway is very large 48mm x 22mm. it is steel and will require each piece to be bonded as per the Canadian Electrical code. The desire to leave the armor on the cable within the raceway also does not allow for a strain relief connector at the point of termination to the device box which does not meet code requirements. If we are calling the use of the raceway a sleeve not as a raceway then the bonding each piece still applies. The fittings for the raceway will have to

be extra-large to accommodate 6 times the radius of bend fir the cable with the armor still on it.
The size of our structured cable is 7mm with only one run of cable required in an individual raceway. There is an available very significant cost savings to go with a much smaller raceway like that used in Sir John Thompson Manor. The smaller raceway will also be a less visual impact and is available in PVC. These raceways meet all code standards and CSA and do not require separate bonding.
I am requesting the bidders be given the latitude to quite a system of raceway that will color match and meet all code and CSA requirements for the respective installation. These will have to still be approved through the shop drawing submittal system.
.1 S+A Response: Refer to CEC rule # 32-102 (1). It states that all conductors of a fire alarm system shall be installed in a metal raceway or incorporated into a cable having a metal armour or sheath. Does the proposed installation meet this requirement?
