Costs

Both SIRE and CDI seeing a reduction in direct costs

Due to CDI’s system of self-regulation, CDI inspection costs have plateaued over the last 18 months and are now showing a slight downward trend.

Availability of inspectors

Absence in some parts of the WorldToo many in others, but no competitionCharterer requirements, but no inspector

If you are paying for the service – then they should recognise that and respond

Crewing matrix

Too many differing requirementsStifles promotionKeeps less competent officers in placePay a premium for those meeting the matrix

The INTERTANKO Response

Close working relationship:

OCIMFCDIIndividual companies

Leading the way; making a difference

• Initiated by INTERTANKO VC Chairman• Initial focus was “the decline in the use of

the SIRE system by OCIMF members”

•Issued discussed included: - increased sharing of ship inspection stats

data- improved feedback systems on ship

inspections and inspectors- development of best practice guidance on

important areas of marine risk assurance- development of matters related to crew
