Social media is a great medium to help creatives nurture relationships and become more efficient in their businesses. It can be used for both personal and professional growth as well as a wonderful tool to benefit the community.

Social media is a process...it's just like building any great relationship, it takes time and effort. Success is built with dedication and passion and although we may see overnight success, a long term approach is usually more effective. Several mediums such as Facebook, Twitter and Flickr have emerged over the past few years to help us in building not only professional relationships, but personal relationships as well. Whether you want to be more efficient in your creative business, develop new relationships with fellow artists, or just share more regularly with your family and friends, let us show you a SIMPLE way to build your social media presence for long term success.

Byte-Syze Learning

Description:Facebook is a great social

networking medium. It allows your

friends to be tuned into what’s

going on in your life and vice versa.

It also allows you to make new

friends and connect with groups and

organizations where you may have a

shared interest.

Facebook can be used personally

and professionally. For the creative

individual who operates on a small

budget and a limited amount of

time, you can use Facebook to

communicate to everyone in your

friends list as well as the groups you

are connected with. For example,

Facebook can be used as a great

marketing tool to broadcast an

upcoming event to everyone you

know and it costs you nothing. So,

let’s get started with registering and

creating your account on Facebook.

on each section titled “Name”, “Username”,

invite to create your group of friends. To do this,

click on “Friends”. There are three ways you can

search for friends. The first one is the automated

way by asking Facebook to go through your

email list on outlook or you can upload a

contact list. To do this, click on “Upload Contact

File”. The other way is the let Facebook find

all the people you email from an account such

as “Yahoo” or “Gmail”. To do this, fill out your

Byte-Syze Learning

Everyone I know (myself included) has

had twit-fright at one point or another.

You're not alone if you're wondering,

"What the heck is this Twit-thing?"

"Am I gonna sound dumb?" or "Who

cares what I am doing now? I was just

making tea. Hello, adrenaline!" These

are valid concerns, but let's stop

worrying and get you started.

Description:Twitter is a micro-blogging platform.

It asks users to share thoughts, 140

characters at a time. Everybody can

find and read your tweets (that's what

a message is called on Twitter) and

you can do the same. It's not unlike

sending a SMS to a friend, though

with Twitter everybody can receive

that message. It's like texting on a

global scale!

Twitter is great to meet and connect

with other individuals or businesses.

There are a number of ways to find

like-minded people, and if you sell

your craft or art online, Twitter makes

for an amazing venue to meet new

prospective customers or exchange/

follow-up with existing ones! We

won't cover everything Twitter-related,

though. Let's start with the basics:

registration.

Facebook provides a great platform

to leverage your network and

for creating an event on Facebook

and the various activities to invite

your friends and utilize their network

of friends to spread the word.

It doesn’t cost anything, it’s very

effective and it’s easy to use! Budget

is important and today we have

access to several online mediums

that effectively communicate

our messages to a wide reaching

don’t forget, there is a great

environmental benefit to using these

Byte-Syze Learning

I have some more Flickr love to

spread around today. Remember

the last Byte-Syze Learning on

how to register on Flickr and the

Flickr Groups overview? Well, now

that you are acquainted with the

basics of sharing photos on this

social network, it is time to have

a closer look at starting your own

Flickr Group. Without further ado,

let's start the next installment of the

Byte-Syze Learning tutorial series!

DescriptionA Flickr group is a fantastic tool to

meet likeminded folks and promote

your art and craft. Setting up your

own group is also dead easy!

Well, opening and managing your

own Flickr Group can give your

business some much needed

visibility. Of course, you will

need to get in touch with fellow

Flickr members and get them to

participate in your group for it to

work, but if you put some time and

effort into it, it will do great things

for you.

Naming your GroupGreat, now it is time to name and describe your

group! Try finding a catchy name for it or simply

use the name of your shop or website. Make

sure though that people will feel compelled to

participate in your group, so if its name is all

about you, try to open it up a little by also using

some keywords related to your business such as

Admins, Moderators and Members. The admin

is you and/or anyone you will name as an

admin. These guys have access to all your

trustworthy. Moderators are named by admins

and will moderate discussions and the photo

upload any image format, though Flickr will

automatically resize it (and not always for the

best). For your own sake, crop the icon in your

favorite image editor first (Gimp and Photoshop

a Byte-Syze Learning on how to find

and source Creative Commons images

on Flickr to do just that.

DescriptionCreative Commons is a nonprofit

organization that allows people to

license or grant permission for their

work (like images, video and blogs)

for others to use. In this Byte-Syze

Learning, you will learn step by step

how to find and source a Creative

Commons licensed image through

Flickr.

Utilizing images through Creative

Commons is free and allows you

to improve the look and feel of

your blog or another publication

if you don't have the photography

resources that may be required.

And, for those that share their work

through Creative Commons, it opens

up a place to have their work gain

awareness and visibility which can

lead to future business. So, let's get

started on finding and sourcing a

Creative Commons image through

Flickr.

Step 4:

Enter Keyword(s) and Select Creative CommonsEnter the keyword(s) for your search. In this

case, I've chosen to search for an image with

a "sunset". At the bottom of this window,

check the box that is titled "Only search within

Creative Commons-licensed content" and then

I've also checked the box "Find content to

modify, adapt or build upon" so if we want, we

can ensure it's going to be ok to modify the

original image.
