To move the safety button to the FIREposition, push it from right to left as far asit will go (See B). A red ring will appeararound the left side of the button as awarning that it is in the FIRE position. Ifthe hammer is pulled all the way back tofull cock, the rifle will be cocked andready to fire.

How to LoadWARNING: Never attempt to load yourrifle with ammunition that does not meetthe cartridge designation stamped onthe barrel. Use only clean, dry, factory-loaded ammunition which conforms toindustry standards.
WARNING: Before loading or firing,always check the bore and chamber to besure they are free of grease, oil, or anyother obstruction. With the action open,and the hammer block safety button onSAFE, look through the barrel to see ifthere is an obstruction. If there is, it must
be removed before firing. Otherwise, per-sonal injury or damage could result.

Marlin lever action 22 rifles are NOTdesigned for single loading. Always load car-tridges through the tubular magazine as
directed above.Preparing to Fire
With the rifle pointed in a safe direction,completely open and close the lever onetime, and put the hammer block safety inthe FIRE position. Your rifle is loaded,cocked, and ready to fire.
WARNING: If you do not want to fire atthis point, put the hammer block safetyon SAFE, then return the hammer to theRebound/Safety position. (See D).
How to FireWith the hammer in the Full Cock position,and the safety in the FIRE position, and therifle pointed at the target, squeeze the trig-ger. Work the lever fully open and closedfor each repeat shot. Failure to fully oper-ate the lever can result in a jammed action.If you do not fire all the cartridges in themagazine, be sure to put the hammerblock safety on SAFE, and the hammer inthe Rebound/Safety position until you areready to fire again.
What to do if Rifle Fails to Fire
Misfire
If you have squeezed the trigger and thecartridge does not fire, remain in the shoot-ing position, pointing the gun in a safedirection. Count to 10, then unload the riflecompletely. (See How to Unload).
Underpowered Shot
A squib, or underpowered shot, shouldnot occur if the ammunition is clean, dry,and factory loaded. You can normally tellif a shot is underpowered by the unusual-ly low sound it makes.

Your rifle has been sighted-in and test-fired at the factory. Due to individualshooting characteristics, however, sight-
ing should be range verified.
Vertical Correction (Elevation)To raise the point of impact, raise the rearsight, by moving the sight elevator rearward.To lower the point of impact, lower the rearsight, by moving the sight elevator forward.
Horizontal Correction (Windage)
To move the point of impact to the left,tap the rear sight base to the left. Tomove the point of impact to the right, tapthe rear sight base to the right.

How to Clean Your Rifle

The action and bore may be cleanedand oiled while the gun is in this stateof disassembly.
Caution: Before using any solvent orother gun cleaning product, read thelabel carefully to be sure it wil l notdamage either the finish, or any partsof this firearm.
To clean the bore and barrel, use anystandard 22 caliber commercial cleaningrod and cleaning patches. Clean the bar-rel with powder solvent and wipe lightlywith gun oil after cleaning.
Use a very thin coat of light oil duringbelow freezing conditions. A dry graphiteused sparingly is recommended for coldweather lubrication. Condensationdroplets will form soon after the rifle isbrought into a warm room, or the riflemay become wet during inclement weath-er. In an case, all moisture should beremoved. Exterior metal finishes may bewiped down with a slightly oiled cloth.

To reassemble, reverse the takedownprocess described above.
Be sure to release the ejector by turningthe ejector locking rivet so that the ejectorsprings back to its original operating posi-tion (See O). Be sure the breech bolt is asfar forward as it will go. (See P). Do nottouch the lever during reassembly. Becertain that the two receiver parts arecompletely mated, so that both sides aresmooth and flat (See Q & R). Tightentakedown screw.
For long term storage, lightlyoil the bore, bar-rel and action with gun oil. Your rifle shouldbe completely unloaded and stored in a dry,ventilated area. Do not store in a gun case.
