Making Finance Work for Africa
The MFW4A Partnership is a G8 initiative aimed at establishing
a common platform for harmonization and facilitation of financial
sector development and knowledge sharing in Africa.
Key Activities
Centralizing and disseminating financial sector
knowledge;
Convening partners and facilitating dialogue and
exchange;
Serving as a broker between demand and supply for
financial sector development support.

MFW4A Partnership has proven to be a powerful convening
platform around financial sector issues:
Remittances - Remittances Working Group roundtables in
London and Tunis in April and September 2009, respectively,
and quarterly calls comparing notes on projects in the pipeline;
Access to Finance – A2F Working Group quarterly calls;
Financial Capability and Consumer Protection Conference –
Accra, September 2009;
Microfinance – African Union Workshop, Addis Ababa,
September 2009
Capital Markets - Donor workshop in Tunis in March 2009 and
Capital Markets seminar during AfDB annual meeting in May
2009

MFW4A Secretariat is developing 2 tools to improve interaction
between demand and supply for financial sector support:
Donor Mapping (in development)
Over 600 current and pipeline financial sector projects
funded by the 12 founding partners;
Project Portal (in development)
Standardized format for requests for financial sector
development resources;
Builds on donor mapping database to match need with
existing expertise.

Going Forward
Deepening domestic public debt markets is now understood to
be integral to the financial sector development agenda.
MFW4A Secretariat will continue to facilitate dialogue on
partners’ strategic priorities to identify gaps and synergies
…and work to increase partners’ focus on public debt
management and financial sector deepening through ongoing
work and new initiatives.
