Fearn Abbey Located 2 miles

northwest of Balintore, this abbey was founded by the Earl of Ross in 1225. On the north side, is a mausoleum which served as the burial place for the Ross Family.

Ross Clan Tartan

• Originally, tartans varied by

region and did not have ties to

individual clans.

• The wearing of tartans was

banned by the government

after the Battle of Culloden

until 1782.

• Families now often have

several tartans such as hunting,

wedding, ancient, and

modern tartans.

Urquhart Castle

Urquhart Castle is located on Loch Ness. It was

once controlled by Robert the Bruce, whom the

Ross Clan fought alongside.

Dunvegan Castle

Dunvegan Castle is located on the Isle of Skye, and

was built in 1825 for the MacDonald clan. In the

early 13th century, land of the Isle of Skye was given

to the Earl of Ross and there are many ties between

Clan Ross and Clan MacDonald.

Cromarty Firth

During the 14th and 15th centuries, the followers of the Earl of

Ross, who later became Clan Ross, settled between the

Dornoch and Cromarty Firths.

Linlithgow Palace

Linlithgow Palace, built by James I in 1424, is the

birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots and was the

residence of most of the Stewart Kings. Located in

Linlithgow near Edinburgh and the Lothians.

This well-preserved, prehistoric village, located

near Stromness on the Orkney Islands, was

inhabited around 5000 years ago.

Stirling Castle

One of the grandest castles in Scotland, Stirling Castle,

was commissioned by James V in 1538.

Eilean Donan Castle

Eilean Donan Castle was first built in the 13th century. It

sat as ruins for 200 years before being reconstructed

starting in 1912 until its completion in 1932.

Edinburgh is full of places to visit including

Edinburgh Castle pictured above, the

Royal Mile and Holyrood Abbey.
