Michael A. Stelzer, Ph.D.
“Electrical research is my favorite task, as it permits new technology to be created.”
— Michael Stelzer
Dr. Stelzer’s passion for academics is clear upon examining his impressive foundations of degrees, certifications, and research history. One of his most recent accomplishments was becoming the first student at Old Dominion University to earn a Ph.D. in electrical engineering with an emphasis in marine-related energy generation. He utilized his extensive background in engineering, and his U.S. Navy experience to complete his dissertation: “Evaluation of Ocean-Energy Conversion Based on Linear Generator Concepts.” As a graduate research assistant for the department of electrical and computer engineering at Old Dominion University, Dr. Stelzer completed simulation studies that looked at the possibility of extracting electrical energy from ocean waves as a green and renewable energy alternative. Dr. Stelzer continues his affiliation with the Old Dominion University as an adjunct professor. He is currently seeking a full-time position as a college professor. He offers expertise from more than two decades of engineering experience in the academic setting and the public sector, as well as from his time served as an aviation electronic technician and supervisor for the U.S. Navy.
