Assistant Principal Superintendent of Schools Accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools Dear Class of 2020 Students and Families: June 5, 2020 Congratulations! You have made it to the final stretch of your high school careers. Despite the closing of schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you have finished strong and are about to become graduates of Comsewogue High School’s Class of 2020. We are extremely proud of all of your accomplishments throughout your academic career, and exceptionally proud of how you have persevered during these past few months of uncertainty. We understand that it is disappointing to end your high school career without being able to celebrate your traditional senior year milestones with friends, family, and our school community. We have been working diligently to develop ways to make the end of your senior year memorable and special. We appreciate all of the feedback we have received from the Class of 2020 students and families. With the information gathered, safety being our top priority, and adherence to government regulations and social distancing being of paramount importance, we have developed the following plan: We will celebrate our Class of 2020 during “Senior Week”. These events, beginning on Friday, June 19, 2020, will recognize the accomplishments and achievements of our incredible Senior Class. Friday, June 19, 2020 - Virtual Varsity Athletic Awards - 6:00pm (Zoom - Invitation to follow) We will kick-off our week by celebrating our Varsity Athletes for the 2019-2020 school year, as well as honoring our six special senior awards. Monday, June 22, 2020 - Virtual Scholarship Night - 6:30pm (Zoom - Invitation to follow) We will host our annual Scholarship Night using the Zoom conferencing platform. If your child has been selected for a scholarship, you will receive an invitation in the mail with the Meeting Code and Password to join. Tuesday, June 23, 2020 - Virtual Senior Prom - 8:00pm (Zoom - Invitation to follow) While it seems unlikely that restrictions on gatherings will ease in time for our original prom date, we do plan to celebrate the occasion the best we can. Our DJ has agreed to offer a Virtual Prom via Zoom. The Virtual Prom will begin at 8:00pm. We will continue to work to support the Class of 2020 students/families who have expressed interest in hosting an alumni gathering. We have already secured a backup date at the East Wind on July 29, 2020 if government guidelines will allow for an indoor gathering of that size. Wednesday, June 24, 2020 - Senior Slide Show Drive-In Graduates will experience a unique celebratory event as they will be invited to a “Night at the Drive-in” in the High School student parking-lot to view their Senior Slideshow. We will have 2 viewings (7:30pm & 9:00pm). Students will have the opportunity to sign up for the session of their choice through a Google Form that will be posted on the Class of 2020 Google Classroom.

Thursday, June 25, 2020 – Drive Through Class of 2020 Car Parade – 12:00-1:00pm Seniors are invited to commemorate their original graduation date by participating in a Class of 2020 Senior Car Parade. While driving through the North Parking Lot Bus Circle, Seniors will be celebrated by faculty and staff who will be there to send our Class of 2020 off. We encourage students to decorate their cars and wear their cap and gowns. Thursday, July 23, 2020 - Commencement Ceremony - 6:45pm

While we know this is not how you imagined ending your senior year, please know that we are doing everything in our power to make your graduation celebration special and memorable for both you and your family. As of June 4, 2020, the Governor announced that live graduations are not permitted, so we will be postponing our planned live graduation to July 23rd. This event, if permitted by current gathering restrictions, will be for graduates only and will have to adhere to current social distancing guidelines. We will require all in attendance to wear a face mask. Due to the parking spaces available on our campus, we will limit each graduate to one vehicle. The vehicle must be able to fit in one parking spot (no campers or buses please).

We will have three large video walls in our parking lots for families to watch the ceremony from the safety

of their own cars while it is transmitted through FM radio. The Ceremony will also be streamed live on our Comsewogue District Facebook page. Please understand our Commencement Ceremony will be a rain or shine event as we are unable to adequately socially distance indoors.

We will continue to monitor the regulations and executive orders of the Governor's office and Department of Health and make adjustments as needed. More details will be released as they become available to us.

Once again, we thank everyone for the feedback and understanding. Under the current state guidelines,

we have carefully crafted a plan that honors our graduates in a way that is both safe and closely resembles the traditions that we have all grown to love at Comsewogue. Sincerely,

Michael Mosca Michael Mosca Principal Comsewogue High School
