APRILIA

APRILIA RACING

With 104 World Championships in its collection (54 Aprilia, 15 Moto Guzzi, 21 Derbi, 14 Gilera) the Piaggio Group is the most victorious motorcycle group of all times, and Aprilia, born into racing, is the true sports banner for the Piaggio Group.

With 294 Grand Prix races won in World Championship GP Motorcycle Racing, Aprilia holds the record for the most wins of any European manufacturer in the history of top motorcycle competition. These race wins are joined by 54 world titles: 38 in the World Motorcycle Championship (20 in the 125 class and 18 in the 250 class), 7 in Superbike (double Rider/Manufacturer title in 2010, 2012 and 2014, Manufacturer in 2013) and 9 in the Off Road disciplines (7 in Supermoto and 2 in Trial). The Aprilia trophy case also includes the 2015 Superstock 1000 FIM Cup, won with the RSV4 RF ridden by Lorenzo Savadori, currently riding an Aprilia in World Superbike alongside Eugene Laverty.

RACING

SECOND ROUND OF THE TRIPLE-HEADER AT PHILLIP ISLAND IN AUSTRALIA

The second stop on the MotoGP intercontinental tour will be at Phillip Island in Australia. The 4,448 metres of asphalt overlooking Cunningham Bay are some of the riders' favourite because of how spectacular they are. The layout is fast and flowing, with frequent changes in slope and little margin for error.

The weather needs to be taken into account which, in this period, is characterised by temperatures which are not too high and a good chance of changing conditions. Special attention therefore goes to choosing the tyres and managing the weekend.

ALEIX ESPARGARÒ

"At Phillip Island we will have a lot of new things to try out in view of the new bike and to improve in the areas that are limiting us. It will be important to collect data because the 2019 season is approaching and we absolutely must take an important step forward."

SCOTT REDDING

"It's hard to say what I expect from Phillip Island. I'll be tackling it for the first time astride the Aprilia. Theoretically, the characteristics of the circuit should be a good fit for our bike and in recent races my feeling with the RS-GP has gotten a lot better."

THE APRILIA RSV4 WINS BELGIAN CHAMPIONSHIP AND BENECUP

During the BSB weekend on the famous TT track of Assen, fast Belgian Superbike rider Sander Claessen secured both the 2018 national Belgian SBK title as well as the 2018 Benecup SBK title, on board his Delta Motorcycle Aprilia RSV4.A crowd around 25.000 spectators saw how Claessen scored in the races a first and second place beating his only rival, Yan Ancia, by lengths. He was on the beginning of this last championship race the only opponent to hold the Aprilia rider from the double.A lot of British Superstock1000 riders on the list of 46 participants in Assen, what made the two races very spectacular.

BSB

Page 11: MICHELIN AUSTRALIAN MOTORCYCLE GRAND PRIX

Good qualifs that resulted in a position on the second row, good starts and consistent races did the job. The British riders could not score points as guest pilots because riding motorcycles that were not conforming to the Belgian and Dutch technical specs. But it made the races from the beginning very intense. Many overtakes and crashes included.

During summer, the two Aprilia riders raced in the 6H de Spa-Francorchamps, a Belgian endurance race where a lot of EWC drivers took a start and ended sixth in the scratch results, but ended on the third step of the podium in their class, 1000Superbikes Inter. Completing a season not easy to forget.

Phillip Island, the self-styled home of Australian motorsport, is steeped in motor racing tradition, with the first car races having been held there on public roads in the 1920s. The first motorcycle races took place in 1931 and a permanent track was built in 1956. The circuit fell into disrepair during the late 70s and early 80s until it was bought in 1985 and given a AUS $5m facelift. MotoGP returned in 1989 and 1990 before becoming a regular fixture once more from 1997 onwards.

The Phillip Island circuit is blessed with breathtaking scenery and beautiful ocean views and, as one of the fastest, most fluid, tracks on the calendar, it continues to provide some of the most spectacular racing in the MotoGP season.
