Let’s start off the New Year with good news for 2018. I am optimistic that most of us will be paying less tax in 2018 due to the following items in the Tax Reform bill.• Lower tax rates for 2018.• Higher exemption amounts for Alternative Minimum tax so less individuals will be subject to this tax.• Child Tax credit has increased to $2,000 per child vs. $1,050.• Although for mortgage interest you are now capped at $750,000 for acquisition debt you are grandfathered in at $1 million
acquisition debt if incurred before December 15, 2017.• No itemized deduction phase out.• Medical expenses in excess of 7.5% of Adjusted gross income for 2017 and 2018 allowed.• Like-kind exchange rules for real property retained but eliminates their applicability for all other property.
If you are in a pass-through entity please consult your tax advisor to see if the 20% deduction applies to you as the calculation is very complex in conjunction with the thresholds.

Hackers have caught on to this trend and have started intercepting emails between buyers, real estate agents and closing agents. You have that coveted home loan approval! You've run the gauntlet of mortgage qualifications. For good-ness sake, don't make any surprise financial moves that could cost you your home loan. Your mortgage approval is pri-marily based on documenting your income & assets, your down pay-ment, your credit and the cash you'll have left over after the deal is done. Once you have a mortgage ap-proval, if you change the profile of any one of those qualifiers, you could have to kiss your mortgage goodbye.Avoid big purchases.It is not time to buy a new car, new appliances...curbing shopping is simply best.Pay your bills. Even if there is a current dispute. Stop paying a bill and a blotch hits your credit report. Don’t cash out. Leave your stashes of cashes alone.Keep your job. It isn’t time to change employers.Don’t open new credit cards.Lenders check each document of your qualifying information several times. Once your mortgage is approved, do keep tight reigns on what you can control.
