Let’s start off the New Year with good news for 2018. I am optimistic that most of us will be paying less tax in 2018 due to the following items in the Tax Reform bill.• Lower tax rates for 2018.• Higher exemption amounts for Alternative Minimum tax so less individuals will be subject to this tax.• Child Tax credit has increased to $2,000 per child vs. $1,050.• Although for mortgage interest you are now capped at $750,000 for acquisition debt you are grandfathered in at $1 million

acquisition debt if incurred before December 15, 2017.• No itemized deduction phase out.• Medical expenses in excess of 7.5% of Adjusted gross income for 2017 and 2018 allowed.• Like-kind exchange rules for real property retained but eliminates their applicability for all other property.

If you are in a pass-through entity please consult your tax advisor to see if the 20% deduction applies to you as the calculation is very complex in conjunction with the thresholds.
