How the MAS-100® worksAll MAS-100® Microbial Air Monitoring Systems are sieve impaction systems based on the

Anderson impaction principle, accepted and proven world-wide.

Air is aspirated through a perforated lid with 400 holes. A radial fan,

controlled by a flow sensor, accurately regulates air flow real time at

100 liters/min. The air is impacted onto the surface of growth

media in a 90mm Petri dish or 60mm contact plate. Microorganisms

impact the media and the colonies are counted after the proper

incubation period. All MAS-100® microbial air samplers comply with

the guide lines as specified in ISO14698-1.

Sample collection accuracyThe MAS-100® Microbial Air Monitoring Systems provide the most accurate sample

collection available. The MAS-100® systems (except the

MAS-100 Eco®) utilize a state-of-the-art

mass flow sensor to assure a constant air

flow rate of 100 liters/min. The mass flow

sensor continuously regulates the air

flow rate during sample collection. This

allows the MAS-100® system to

automatically adjust for differences in

fill volume of Petri dishes, changes

in air density and differences between

individual perforated lids.

It´s so easy: just a short turn to open the perforated lid, and the standard petri dish can be removed for incubation.

Both the MAS-100® and MAS-100 Ex®portable microbial air samplers were

designed for use in cleanroom environments. These compact yetsophisticated devices are thepreferred choice for those demanding the highest qualityin microbial air monitoring. Both systems utilize either

90mm Petri dishes or 60mmcontact plates allowing for

a low operating cost and greaterflexibility. Sampling at 100 liters per

minute, these systems have the highestairflow accuracy available at ±2.5%,compared to others that can be as highas ±10%. The integrated flow sensorallows the user to freely interchange theperforated lids without affecting theaccuracy or the calibration of the unit.

Sampling volumes are also easily con-figurable between 0 and 2,000 liters. The units have a horizontal air flowvelocity of 0.45 m/sec. This isokineticflow rate coupled with our unique design will not produce turbulence in a laminar flow environment. The unitsare controlled using single touch "yes"or "no" responses. A programmablestart delay of up to 60 minutes allowsfor personnel to be out of the samplingarea when the sampling starts. TheMAS-100® microbial air sampler ispowered by a rechargeable NiMH batterypack which, when fully charged, provides for 7.5 hours of continuousoperation or about 50,000 liters of totalvolume.

The MAS-100® microbial air sampleralso features a bi-directional data portthat allows for the transfer of information to a PC via a specialcommunication cable. Sampling datacan be printed directly on a Seikothermal printer. Other features includeeasy on-site calibration using the

DA-100® Digital Anemometer system, a programmable calibration reminderprompt, easy to read liquid crystaldisplay, low battery alert and real timeclock with calendar.

The MAS-100 Eco® microbial air sampleroffers an economical alternative to

our highly acclaimed MAS-100®microbial air sampler. This smaller, lightweight unit is ideal for appli-cations in or out of the clean-room and for air monitoring infood and beverage environments. The MAS-100 Eco® offers many

of the same features found on thestandard MAS-100® air sampler,

without the mass flow sensor. Like all MAS-100® systems, the MAS-

100 Eco® samples at a flow rate of 100liters per minute uses standard 90mmPetri dishes, providing a low operatingcost. The handle doubles as a stand to allow different angles for testing and an optional tripod adapter attaches to thehandle for fixed applications.

The new MAS-100 ISO® system isdesigned to meet the most rigorousdemands for efficient air monitoring ofthe microbiological cleanliness in iso-lators and cleanrooms.

The system consists of a control unit, valve unit, aspiration unit and asampling head. The sampling head(s)mount on standard 3/4” triclamp fittingswhich are themselves mounted throughthe walls of the isolator or cleanroom.Beside the sampling head there are noother electronic or mechanical compo-nents to be installed within the criticallycontrolled zone.

A special double-valve system ensuressecurity and also allows for integrationof the sampling head(s) into the steri-lization process of the isolator orcleanroom with no manipulation. Thesterilant, such as vaporized hydrogenperoxide (VHP), is circulated through the MAS-100 ISO® sampling head andvalve unit during the sterilizationprocess. The valve system protects theaspiration unit from damage by thesterilant. Each control unit can run 4

sampling heads and in a BUS-system, upto 40 sampling heads at the same time.Calibration is easily performed on-sitewith the DA-100® Digital Anemometercalibration system.

MAS-100 CG Ex®

The MAS-100 CG Ex® system is for usewhen there is a need to test com-

pressed gases for microbial conta-mination. Utilizing two sensors, one to measure mass flow and the other for pressure, the unit collects samples under the pressure of the gas supply.

The MAS-100 CG Ex® systemsamples at two con-stant flow

rates, 100 L/min and 50 L/min forlow flow applications. The system will

sample gas at a pressure range between1.5 bar to 10 bar. Compressed gas is directed through a perforated plate ontothe 100mm Petri dish.

After sampling of the required volume of gas, a gradual decompression occursautomatically, preventing any suddenpressure change, avoiding possibledamage to the microorganisms and im-proving recovery. After decompression, the Petri dish is removed and incubated.

The MAS-100 CG Ex® system is the onlycompressed gas microbial air samplerapproved for use in Zone 2 explosionhazard areas. The MAS-100 CG Ex® is calibrated with compressed air. Due toour unique mass flow sensor technology, only a mathematical correction factor is required to sample other gasses. There is no need to calibrate for specificgasses. The unit is pre-programmed forcompressed air, nitrogen, carbon dioxide

and argon gas, and a total of 10 gasprotocols can be programmed andstored in the unit. The MAS-100 CG Ex®sampler makes compressed gas samplingeasy and accurate. The automatedcollection process saves time andeliminates the awkward manipulationsrequired with manual methods.

All MAS-100® microbial air samplersare pre-calibrated, but on-site recali-bration is quick and easy with the addition of our DA-100® DigitalAnemometer. (Cannot be used on theMAS-100 CG Ex®.) The DA-100® is a highly accurate transfer standard. This digital vane anemometer spinsfreely on a magnetic field bearing(patent pending) and the revolutions are counted by a laser diode. These revolutions are then converted to volume flow rate and displayed onthe LCD on the unit.

The flow rate accuracy is ±1.0%, themost accurate on the market. The display also shows temperature (°C)and velocity in m/sec. The DA-100® Digital Anemometer uses a simple onebutton control. Calibration is accom-plished using the keypad on the MAS-100® air sampler, eliminating the needto open the MAS-100® to accesselectronics. The entire process takes lessthan 5 minutes. The DA-100® DigitalAnemometer is small, lightweight andcompletely portable. The DA-100®anemometer is pre-calibrated, certifi-cation is supplied.

When attached to the top of any MAS-100®unit (except the MAS-100 CG Ex®), theDA-100® digitalanemometer allows youto easily check bothvolume and air velocityon the spot... at any time.Recalibration can bedone on-site with noneed to open the units tomake adjustments! All calibrations are tra-ceable to NIST.
