L&D Problems We Wont Touch OnYour CEO is very supportive of L&D but thinks it stands for lunch & dinner

Your employees are French existentialists who ask why should you develop yourself when life has no purpose

You can calculate ROI to 10 digits but not until you find your glasses

What is microlearning?

Microlearning is learning, and applying what one has learned, in small, focused steps.

The Ideal Microlearning StepSelf-contained, with its own objective

A small win on the way to a larger goal

As short as possible, but as extensive as necessary

Microlearning is not just short content or learning for a short period of time.

The Mission of MicrolearningCreate better learning and performance outcomes for everyone while spending less time and money doing it.

1. The world has changed our brains and how we pay attention

Average person receives 22 distractions in an hour

People check their phones 150+ times day

Human beings now have shorter attention spans than goldfish?

4. What people need to learn changes constantly

Deloitte estimates a skills half-life of 2.5 years

But skills can become obsolete in months or weeks

Microlearnings solution:

- create and update content quickly- consume content quickly- just-in-time resources to fill in gaps

5. Not all learners are created equal

32The most commonly used learning methods are the least effective

Microlearnings solution:

- Practice practice practice

- Use it or lose it

- Lower cognitive loadBut not all at once

6. The Robots are Coming! They dont need naps! They dont need snacks!

Microlearnings solution:

Help knowledge workers become learning workers

ComputersHuman beings

Microlearning in the Media

Vine videos (people ask how short is too short)

Microlearning can be SHORT. No, really short. Because if you need immediate, on-the-job training, you can't interrupt the job for long. And if the training runs too long, the learner cant stay focused. How short are we talking? Potentially, only a few seconds: SHOW SAMPLE VIDSDid you learn something there? I did. And we learned it in (14, 6, 9 TKTK etc) seconds. THIS is microlearning.

No ones gonna win the nobel prize for this
