Hamleys Remote Working 

 

 

 

What is happening? The way you access Hamleys applications via www.thehamleys.net remotely is changing.  During September 2010 we will be releasing a new improved version of the terminal server. The new server has been designed from a user prospective of the tool and is much more intuitive and easier to use.   What does this mean for me? Rather than accessing the remote desktop as below.  

    You will now be able to access either just a single application or the windows desktop using the RemoteApp programs page.  

  How do I access the new RemoteApp programs page? Access is via the website http://www.thehamleys.net.  

       

  After entering your used ID and password you will need to click on the Microsoft Windows button.  

   You will then see the Hamleys Remote Working logon page.  

  Enter your user ID and password in the box provided and clicking Sign In you will be taken to the RemoteApp page.  

   What is Remote Working & RemoteApp? Using RemoteApp, you can access programs on a remote computer through Remote Desktop Services. Although the programs are running on a remote computer, RemoteApp programs behave as if they are running on your local computer.   Starting a RemoteApp program 

To start a RemoteApp program, click the program icon in RemoteApp screen. If you would like to access the windows desktop click the Remote Desktop icon.  

 

When you receive the RemoteApp warning box, click ‘connect’ 

 

The RemoteApp connecting too… box will appear for a short while 

 

N.B If at any point you are prompted for user credentials, log on with your network user name and password ensuring ‘HAMNET\’ is entered in front of your ID. HAMNET\XX01 Your requested application should be displayed.

  You can resize the windows as required, and interact with the applications as if you are working on your local machine.  When closing any application or remote desktop session please ensure all work is saved.  Your session will be disconnected 10 minutes after closing the windows and any unsaved work will be lost. 

 

Computer requirements To use Hamleys remote working, your computer must be running at least Internet Explorer 6.0 and a version of Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) that supports at least Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) 6.1.  To determine the RDP version that RDC supports, start Remote Desktop Connection,  Click the windows Start button >> All programs >> Accessories  Click the icon in the upper‐left corner of the Remote Desktop Connection dialog box, and then click About. The RDP version that RDC supports is listed in the About Remote Desktop Connection dialog box. 

 

   RDC 6.1 is included with the following operating systems:  Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 (SP1) Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (SP3)  The version of RDC in Windows 7 is RDP 7.0.  Additionally, the Remote Desktop Services ActiveX Client control must be enabled. The ActiveX control is included with RDC 6.1 and the version of RDC in Windows 7.  I am prompted to run the Remote Desktop Services ActiveX Client control. How do I do that? If you are prompted to run the Remote Desktop Services ActiveX Client control when you access RD Web Access, do one of the following, depending on your version of windows:  If you are running Windows XP, and you are prompted to run the Remote Desktop Services ActiveX Client control, click the message line, click Run ActiveX Control, and then click Run. After you have enabled the control, refresh the Web page. 

    If you are running Windows Vista, click the warning message on the Internet Explorer Information bar, point to Add‐on Disabled, and then click Run ActiveX Control. When you do this, you might see a security warning. Make sure that the publisher of the ActiveX control is "Microsoft Corporation" before you click Run.  If you are running Windows 7, in addition to the above steps, you can choose to allow the ActiveX control to run only on this website.  If the Internet Explorer Information bar doesn't appear, you can enable the ActiveX control by using the Manage Add‐ons tool on the Tools menu of Internet Explorer.  

  Selecting the Remote Desktop Services ActiveX and clicking enable.  

  If your computer meets all the client requirements but you do not see any programs listed, contact the Hamleys IT department.
