Madinatul Ilm Charitable Trust (MICT)
INTRODUCTION: As we complete another year at Madinatul Ilm charitable trust (MICT) a
successful philanthropic organization based in Rawalpindi, Pakistan which has functioned since 2008,
it gives us great pleasure to send out our latest newsletter which covers our activities from July to
December 2011. This was an unusual period for Pakistan in view of the fallout from devastating floods
which struck parts of the southern Sindh province. In response to this calamity, MICTs teams of staff
members supported by volunteers ventured out to some of the most devastated areas to provideemergency assistance in the shape of temporary shelter, food and other basic needs. Through the
generous support of many of our supporters, notably the UK based Lady Fatemah Trust (LFT), MICT
continues to provide emergency relief to victims of the floods in Sindh, where the crisis has far from
ended.
As we venture in to 2012, we appeal to our supporters for collaboration to continue to help victims of
floods in Sindh who live in miserable conditions. For the next six months, other priority areas for
MICT will remain the cause of helping students in need as well as expanding our focus on healthcare
and modest grants for poor entrepreneurs. As Pakistan battles continuing inflation and
unemployment, we are receiving a large number of requests from many well deserving students whooffer the promise of academic success but lack the financial resources to achieve their academic goals.
It would be a sheer tragedy if they were left without support to fulfill their career ambitions.
During the last six months from July to December, we are happy to share the case of ten young women
from Pakistans northern areas identified by MICT and sponsored by LFT, to attend an academic
summer camp in Islamabad. At a cost of just U$400 per student for the three month period, we helped
these promising young women to fill their academic gaps through attending special classes. Now, we
are pleased to report that three of those students have got placements at medical schools across
Pakistan while we hope that the rest will successfully follow in their foot steps.

MICT has established a successful track record of intervention to support victims of natural disasters.During the period under review and through the generous support of Lady Fatemah Trust (LFT), wesuccessfully completed the fourth phase of a housing project in a rural part of south Punjab. This is anarea which was devastated by floods of 2010, forcing many rural dwellers to camp out under the open
sky.
This was an unusual period for Pakistan in view of the devastating floods which struck large parts ofthe Sindh province. In response, MICTs teams of staff members supported by volunteers ventured outto some of the most devastated areas to provide emergency assistance in the form of temporaryshelter, food and other basic needs. Through the generous support of our many supporters, notablythe UK based Lady Fatemah Trust (LFT), we reached families living in abject conditions and waitingfor emergency support. We share a list of our targeted locations across the Sindh province whereMICT has worked in the second half of 2011:

In view of Pakistans troubling economic conditions, food security for low income families has become
a major challenge, especially in areas devastated by floods of 2010 and 2011. The Lady Fatemah Trust
(LFT) through the support of its donors sponsored a major initiative for MICT to deliver food packages
to flood victims. Just ahead of Ramadan-2011, MICTs volunteers ventured out to their targeted
locations for delivering food packages to families in need. This enabled many malnourished
individuals to put food on their tables during the fasting month of Ramadan-a period whenfinancially well off Muslims are especially obliged to care for those in need. MICT reached the
following areas of Pakistan ahead of the fasting month:

FUTURE PLANS
As we go forward, our aim is to continue with MICTs dedicated commitment to help tackle
conditions in crisis hit situations while also building up on our past progress to continue with human welfare projects. We have put in place a professionally sound system of financial management
involving periodic audits by a professional accountant while we have internally enforced strict terms
surrounding day to day financial management. In time, we hope for MICT to evolve and attain a
prominent status among high profile and credible community service organizations in Pakistan. Please
send us an email on [email protected] for further information. Also, do visit our website;
