Week 9 Term 2 Thursday 29th June

From the Principal

Dear Families,

One of the most visible aspect of any school is the uniform, and the way it is worn.

A uniform says something about the tone of the school. It highlights some of those key

values we admire in others like respect, pride, attention to detail, organisation, and

orderliness. When uniforms are worn inconsistently, or without care it does reflect on the

individual and also on the group.

Also, when the uniform begins to look tired or hasn’t been updated in a while it can

reflect poorly on the school, even if things are otherwise going quite well. This week our

teachers have been putting the spotlight on some of the usual issues that seem to keep

recurring.

We have put a list of these in the newsletter today for you to think through as a family.

I spoke at a Senior Chapel recently, and explained that it’s often other parents who

notice the inconsistencies, and find it very hard to deal with because they are making

their own children do the right thing, and also having to deal with them asking “how

come it’s only us who have to wear it properly on certain days”.

So the issue is not about us individually and wanting to have excuses and exceptions. The

issue is that we as a community all look bad as a whole when some don’t do the right

thing.

Now, I know there are some fair niggles to be made about this and that, and I did

announce recently that our Board (who are an amazing group by the way – very

dedicated and committed to governing well) have been preparing a uniform review

process.

I am pleased to announce that they have finalised the uniform terms of reference, and

are putting together a review committee.

Year 12 Food and Hospitality Lunchtime Bakery

Last Friday the Year 12 Food

and Hospitality students held

a bakery during lunchtime.

They had Pizza Scrolls,

Lemon Cream Cheese

Danish, Custard Tarts and

Dessert Pizzas for sale. The

purpose of this event was to

complete a major Year 12

Stage 2 assignment in Food

and Hospitality. The students

did a fantastic job and the food was delicious. The day was a great success and a wonderful

experience for the students.

PRAYER FOR MNCC

Prayer is held each Monday at 9am in the Library. All Parents and Caregivers are welcome. For more information contact

Mel Jaeger on 0478 616 475.

BREAKFAST CLUB

Breakfast runs from 8.00am to 8.35am Wednesdays in the Home Economics area. Warm toast is available and a variety of

cereals as well as hot milo.

LOST PROPERTY

There are a number of uniform items and other articles in ‘Lost Property’ at the moment. Please check the ‘Lost Property’ if

your students have mislaid any items. Any items unclaimed by end of the term will be washed and sold as second hand

through the Uniform Shop.

PRIMARY MATHS

The Primary teachers have been thinking through how they approach teaching maths, and have decided to make a

priority to do maths before Recess.

They will be making timetable adjustments so that maths is being taught at the same time across Primary year levels.

Some classes are looking at opportunities to develop flexible groups which could involve students working on topics and

activities at a suitable level. This provides a great opportunity for catch up and extension, and for more targeted

teaching. Please watch for more information or speak to your child’s classroom teacher.

REPORT DELAYS

We have had some delays in our report preparation processes, and these will now be distributed in week 2 of the

holidays.

SOCCER

We have had reports of poor language, attitude and behaviour at both training and matches. Please remember we

expect high standards from our students and families while representing the school. Please do report issues and concerns.

Students should expect a 1 match & training suspension for lacking self-control. Please encourage students to report poor

behaviour, so we can support a return to the expected standard. We have assigned staff to monitor training nights.

Please also remember to pick up students from training promptly at 4.15pm.

That committee will have space for up to three parent volunteers and will then prepare a consultation process. This is

expected to include surveys, meetings, and feedback opportunities about all the important bits like fabric, quality and

pricing information.

As with all such reviews, it will have a significant overlap period for introduction.

This is intended to have a ‘two stage’ component, where the first stage deals with the more easy and obvious matters to

address, and then the second stage which has a longer term look at more significant change over time.

The terms of reference will be available shortly, and will outline the need for high standards, affordability, and good

quality.

If you are interested in being part of this process, please indicate your interest by email to

List of uniform check points to maintain high quality standards:

White socks (must have 2 blue stripes) are only worn with sport uniform, never with formal winter uniform.

Sport uniform is only worn on PE days, or if Soccer training is on for that student

Track pants should be college supplied, not 'name brand' articles.

Check shoes are supportive, in good repair; not flat sole or canvas type.

Ties should be worn properly, and be the right length

If hair is longer than shoulder length it should be secured back

sleeves should not be worn rolled up, shirts should be kept tucked in

No nail polish is worn (except clear 7-12), only light foundation (7-9) or light makeup (10-12).

Only College Jackets or Jumpers are worn. Specifically, we do not allow country soccer championship jumpers.
