There's plenty of things to do and see though the month of May!

The Mid North Coast of New South Wales is what the classic Australian holiday is all about. It’s memories of escaping the city and driving the Pacific Highway to inviting seaside towns such as Nelson Bay, Forster, Port Macquarie, South West Rocks, Crescent Head, and Nambucca or as far north as Coffs Harbour just cruising through classic coastal country dotted with farms, vegetable stalls and roadside cafes. Well it hasn’t changed.

Driving the Pacific Highway is like climbing a favourite tree with every branch leading to a different experience or memory. Any turn east off the Pacific Highway brings you to a stretch of uncrowded sand and a soft sea breeze. Any turn west and you meander through rustic villages, rich in history nestled amongst valleys and rainforests with stunning backdrops of lofty waterfalls and native birds echoing across the ridges.

There is so much to see whichever part of the Mid North Coast you choose to explore. Across its thousands of kilometres of coastline and equally as expansive hinterland there are countless activities, attractions, events and places to stay.

It’s a feast for all the sensesGET ready to set your tastebuds dancing at the Slice of Haven Food and Wine Festival on May 26 in Laurieton.

It’s party time at the event which this year embraces the theme of carnivale. Think gourmet local food with a celebratory twist, entertainment to engage your ears and eyes – it’s going to be a feast for all the senses.

Along with gourmet food and drinks the entertainment, including dance, music and interactive workshops, will set the senses alight. While the grown ups enjoy the sensational food, wine, beer and coffee, the kids haven’t been left out of the line up. Amazing stilt walkers, rides, food and drinks will keep the kids satisfied.

Set overlooking the pristine Camden Haven River this tasty day will serve up over 80 stallholders hailing from the hinterland to the coast who source 90 per cent of their produce from within a 60 mile food radius.

This event, from 10am to 4pm, is a great day out. Pack a picnic blanket, chairs and a sense of fun. Entry is by gold coin donation which will go towards supporting the many volunteer groups who make this event possible.

Just 30 minutes south of Port Macquarie, the festival is held on the river foreshore, Seymour Street. Slice of Haven is brought to you by the Camden Haven Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Holiday Coast Credit Union, Southern Cross Media, Focus Magazine and the Camden Haven Courier.

Covering: Seal Rocks – Tea Gardens – Hawks Nest – Bulahdelah - Stroud

Seal Rocks A small, sleepy and isolated fishing village in the middle of the Great Lakes coastline. Its fame rests largely on the beautiful Sugarloaf Point lighthouse and the sense of isolation it enjoys. The village is one

of the few remaining coastal villages to have avoided major development, so you will experience a truly relaxing and uninterrupted stay.

Tea Gardens - Hawks Nest lie at the mouth of the Myall River and reflect a relaxed coastal lifestyle with a sense of peace and tranquillity. From here you can journey into the Myall Lakes National Park one of the most visited National Parks in the State.

Hinterland A launching point to explore the Great Lakes Hinterland is Bulahdelah located on the Myall River. Historically linked with the timber industry today these areas host a number of walks with magnificent views.

Venturing further you can explore villages such as Nabiac and its traditional lifestyle or experience new pursuits of the land such as wineries and boutique farm product.

Follow Thunderbolts Way to the historic township of Stroud, established in 1826 as part of the original grant to the Australian Agricultural Company. Many of Stroud’s buildings were built by convict labour and today a heritage walk takes you on a journey through the town and Australian history.

Kendall www.midnorthcoastimag.com.au

Covering: Kew - Camden Haven

The village of Kendall is on the NSW Mid North Coast, about 3kms west of Kew and the Pacific Highway and half way between Taree and Port Macquarie. It’s one of a number of villages that make up the Camden Haven region of the Port Macquarie/Hastings Local Government Area. Other towns in the vicinity include Bonny Hills, Comboyne, Dunbogan, Lake Cathie, Laurieton and North Haven. Close by are the major commercial centres of Port Macquarie, Taree and Wauchope.

Kendall, the Poet’s Village, is renowned for its community spirit, enterprise and initiative and has gained a reputation for the arts, community events and a lifestyle the envy of many. It is the home of the National Violin competition, the birthplace of the Camden Haven Music Festival and where Henry Kendall penned some of his best poetry. The town was crowned “NSW Small Community of the Year” in the Regional

Achievement & Community Awards in 2007 and was awarded the “Most Outstanding Tennis Community in Australia” by Tennis Australia in 2010.

Due to a decline in the once thriving timber and dairy industries Kendall has seen a shift towards other commercial enterprises including tourism. Now boasting a craft theme with an eclectic feel, the regular markets and community activities ensures Kendall is a popular destination.

THE GOOD LIFE IN KENDALL FESTIVAL 17 August 2013 – Kendall Showgrounds Resilience and Sustainability of Country Communities. The Festival provides opportunities for people to learn skills like Needlework and Quilting. Spinning of fleece, propagation of plants, making preserves and jams and obtaining information on natural products for good health, wellbeing, and skin care.

the first Sunday of each month, from 8.00am to 12 noon. Local country produce, flowers, preserves, local arts and craft.

Kupcake GiftsFormerly operated as a shop-front retail outlet in Laurieton for seven years, Kupcake Gifts has now shifted to an online retail outlet. The proprietor, Louise Hudson believes the growing shift to on-line buying is a result of consumers who are unable to shop during normal business hours and also those who prefer to shop via their computer in the comfort of their home. By operating the business from home and reducing her operating overheads, Louise is able to offer very competitive prices across her range of merchandise.

Kupcake Gifts currently stocks a wide variety of products in the giftware and homeware range including soft furnishings, kitchenware, glassware, crockery, special occasion gifts, and novelty gifts.

Delivery of your purchases will normally be arranged through the normal mail service and in most cases if you live within the Camden Haven area, Louise will personally deliver free of charge.

Find Kupcake Gifts on the website www.kupcakegifts.evolveshop.com.au or by Google search. You can also contact Louise via email at [email protected]
