Dear Parents and Students,

We (Jeremiah and Benji) are so excited to be able to share

this litt le booklet for 2010 with you. A new year means new

and exciti ng things in the Student Ministry at BCBC. This

year we are making every eff ort to provide you with the

informati on you will need for the enti re year so that you

can plan ahead and parti cipate in all that we are doing.

This year we want to begin partnering with you, the parents,

in a greater way. We want you to understand how we view

our role in the life of your child. We are called to equip

them for ministry. That is why we are here. We want to be

partners with you in order to help you as you grow your

children in the love and admoniti on of the Lord. Believe

it or not the biggest teacher and infl uence in your child’s

life is you. God has given you, the parent, the privilege and

responsibility to teach and instruct your child. We are here

to help aid and assist in that process.

To that end, BCBC Student Ministry exists to RESCUE

students with the Gospel of Christ, GROW them into mature

followers of Christ so that they can go forth and SERVE their

world with the love of Christ. We want to see your children

“get it.” We want them to fall in love with Jesus Christ and

share him with the world. All of our big events and weekly

acti viti es are designed in such a way as to help us reach our

purpose of rescuing, growing and/or serving.

We look forward to the coming year with excitement. We

hope that you know we are here to help in any way possible.

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to partner with

you to reach your child with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

No one has a bigger heart for youth and God than Jeremiah Oliver. He’s fi red up 24/7, always ready to coach, counsel and befriend teens and tweeners as they learn how to walk with the Lord. God has blessed Jeremiah with the ability to relate to kids during those tenuous years, when so many adults struggle. He also brings a quick laugh and sound judgment to The Refuge, as many middle-schoolers gather throughout the week for various Bible studies, jam sessions and praise. He frequently sings in worship services, and loves the

challenge of leading his middle school praise band. No matt er the task at hand, Jeremiah says, “Prayer is priority and discipleship is his mission.”

Cindy is a woman who wears many hats. First and foremost she is a devoted wife, to her husband Winston, and mother to her two wonderful children, Huston and Ashton. She also has a heart and passion for other teenagers, which is why she serves in the capacity she does here at BCBC. Cindy really wants to see young people’s lives changed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She is more than just the person you need to contact most of the ti me with a questi on about some event related to the student ministry. She is constantly involved in the ministry herself whether it be through small group discipleship or one on one disci-pleship. She has such a servant’s heart, that no task is too big or too small.

Benji just might be the biggest Georgia Bulldog fan that you have ever met. Saturdays in the fall you can rest assured he is close to a TV so that he can watch the Bulldogs destroy South Carolina or...out in the woods deer hunti ng...it is a toss-up with him. In the spring he is either on the golf course or in the woods...again chasing turkeys. But the one thing that really drives him, above all these things, is a passion to preach the word of God. He loves to see when people really “get it” and begin to live out their faith. Seeing people transformed by the power of the word of God is the single greatest passion in his life.

6:45 Greenhouse / Each year we offer five sessions lasting six weeks each that aim at growing students into mature followers of Christ. This time is strictly focused on Growth. The High School students are encouraged to take as many different classes as possible.

8:00 Coffee House / Coffee House is a time when we do nothing but hang out with one another. We have drinks, snacks, and games available or you can just sit and talk. It is simply time to be with your friends.

sunday MornInGs

9:15 small Groups in the arC / Each Sunday morning we gather together to study the word of God. We start with a time of big group learning then break into small groups to apply what we have learned to our own lives.

10:45 Worship / At 10:45 we travel to the Sanctuary to worship the One True and Living God with other BCBC members.

CaMp Summer camp is one of, if not the best week of the year for High School Students. We travel to a beach, experience some of the best worship services, and hang out with each other. This week is always impactful and is certainly worth clearing your schedule in order to make sure you are there. Summer camp helps us to meet all three purposes to Rescue, Grow, and Serve.

retreats We offer a variety of retreats throughout the year. Usually one around spring time and another in the fall, but these times are not set in stone. So be sure to be watching for the dates. These retreats vary in their function. Some are intended to help us Rescue, some Grow, and some Serve.

MIssIons Missions are a huge part of what we do here at BCBC. Every year we participate in a variety of mission-oriented activities. We participate in missions by occasionally taking local and overseas mission trips. These trips are usually evangelistic, medical, or construction in purpose. There really are many ways to be a part of the Big Mission God is on here in the student ministry at BCBC.

9:15 small Groups in the arC / Each Sunday morning we gather together in the lobby of the ARC for fellowship before going to class. Each class is divided by grade and gender. The purpose of this time is to build community among students and to study God’s Word. Our goal is to rescue unbelievers and promote spiritual growth in the lives of middle schoolers.

10:45 Worship / At 10:45 we travel to the Sanctuary to worship the One True and Living God with other BCBC members.

Wednesday eVenInGs

6:00 "Hang Time" / Every Wednesday we open the ARC youth room at 6:00 pm for students to relax and “hang out” before Greenhouse begins at 6:45. While Christian music is playing in the background, students can play pool, foosball, or just talk to their friends. The ambitious students can use this time to finish homework or spend quiet time with God in the prayer closet.

6:45 youth 101 / Youth 101 is the only course offered to middle school students during The Greenhouse. This spiritual prep course is evange-listic and focuses on the basics of the Christian faith. The goal of this course is to provide students with the spiritual tools needed to live a successful Christian life in middle school. This is not your ordinary Bible study! This high energy class is full of variety and is very challenging.

ReTReaTs - ConfeRenCes - dIsCIple noW! Weekend Each year we offer several opportunities for students to experience God in a conference or retreat setting outside of the typical BCBC setting. Every January we take students to a youth conference called Chillipepper (concoxions.com) in Pigeon Forge, TN. This conference is dynamic and full of Christian leaders and entertainers that challenge students and usher them into the presence of God.

In March, we offer a discipleship weekend, called Disciple Now!, that enables college students to mentor and disciple students for a weekend in host homes. This event has multiple youth rallies with special speakers and a guest praise band.

In May, we offer a 8th Grade Leadership Retreat. This weekend retreat is fun, challenging, and preparatory as 8th graders get to meet their high school pastor and learn from several 9th graders who come to prepare them with the challenges of the first year in high school.

CaMp Each summer we offer two middle school camps. In late June or early July, we go to a camp outside of Myrtle Beach called, SeeSalt (concoxions.com). This camp is a high-quality production led by a very talented staff that truly cares and reaches out to the students. Each year many students get saved and/or get right with God during this 5-day camp.

In August, we offer a camp called, Pastors' Camp. This camp is typically led by our pastoral staff and has grown to be one of the students' favorite camps. This year, the camp will also include middle school Sunday school teachers and discipleship leaders. This back-to-school camp will enable students to meet their pastors and their new Sunday school teachers all while having a blast at Look Up Lodge (lookuplodge.com).

MIssIons / serVICe projeCts Throughout the year we offer many opportunities for students to serve others and be a part of fulfilling the Great Commission. Along with a variety of mission trips provided by the church, we also do local missions. Some of our local projects include The Refuge Gives Back, The Titus Project, Operation Christmas Child, and the Canned Food and Turkey Drive.5

RULes foR TRIPs

· All sign-ups and payments must be made by deadlines. In order to be good stewards of the resources God has given us we have to set deadlines and follow them. All the camps and retreats we go to require deposits in advance. Therefore, taking money up in advance helps us not to lose the church’s money. We as leaders will make every effort to make certain these dates are clearly made known to everyone well in advance.

· A student is not officially signed up until the required payment is received.

· All payments are non-refundable.

· While on a trip, all students will respect and obey all chaperones, no matter what the age of the student (those over eighteen included).

· No bad language, drinking, sex, violence, or drugs will be tolerated. If caught participating in one of these behaviors, parents will be notified. We also reserve the right to send students home at parent’s expense.

· If couples are caught off alone, the first time they will be warned. If caught twice, the student’s parents will be notified. If this happens a third time, parents will be notified to pick up student at their expense.

· Also, no students are to ever enter the rooms of the opposite sex while on any trip. If this happens, parents will be notified to pick up student at their expense.

· You must let us know of your need for a scholarship. There are a limited number of scholarships available and they will be given out on a first come/ first serve basis.

· A family/student may receive either:› One half scholarship to summer camp per year› One partial scholarship to another event

per year

· Payment plans are available, but arrangements must be made prior to registration deadline.

· Families with multiple children and church members get priority when more scholarships are requested than can be fulfilled.

· Families with multiple children: Check with Jeremiah or Benji for discount options for each trip. These will vary from trip to trip.

· We ask that all receiving scholarships pay what they are able to pay.

· Students or parent must write a thank you note to the church before you will officially receive scholarship.

· If given a scholarship and you back out of the event you will not receive another scholarship for one year.

Big event participants represent themselves, their families, this church, and ultimately Jesus Christ. The student’s behavior is a witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and his power to transform lives. One of our main purposes here at BCBC is to rescue people. Therefore we must keep in the forefront of our minds how our public behavior is capable of drawing people to Christ and have a huge impact on the Kingdom of God. Christians should be the best citizens, guests, and visitors that a town, hotel, or camp ever comes in contact with.
