Athletic Accomplishments A girls’ soccer pro- gram begun this year. Seven students received scholarships in baseball, football, soccer and softball. Three students were named region champs in weightlifting and seventeen students named to All-Region teams. One football coach participated in North/South All-Star football game. • 2011 senior class received over $6.4 million in scholarships and grants.

• Sixty-one seniors graduated with honors.

• Nine seniors are named Palmetto Fellows.

• Eighty-Eight Seniors are eligible for Life Scholarships.

• One hundred 2011 Seniors received Hope Scholarships.

• Four students have received Energy Solution Foundation Scholarships.

• Two students received “Dollars for Scholars” scholarships.

• Seven students signed collegiate athletic scholarships.

• Three students received Watson-Brown scholarships.

• Two juniors are named National Merit Commended Scholars.

• Several students attended Boys and Girls State.

• Several students attended Governor’s School.

• One Senior received the Horatio Alger scholarship.

• One Senior received the “Yes I Can” Warren Whitson Memorial Scholarship for dual enrollment students.

• Two students enrolled in the Pre-Engineering Academy at Aiken Tech.

• Seven students passed the Pro Start Culinary Arts National Certification Test.

• Three Seniors received Gregg-Graniteville Scholarships.

• An average of six students were selected as scholars to the following colleges and universities:

USC-Aiken Newberry College Furman University Wofford College Augusta State U. Columbia College Presbyterian College Converse College Lander College

Midland Valley High School Mission Statement Midland Valley High School promotes academic success, respect, lifelong Learning, and citizenship.

Academic & Civic Accomplishments

• The Graduation Rate increased by 5 percentage points from 65.5% to 70.5%. This was the highest increase in Aiken County.

• The faculty offered 8th Period classes through the SC School Climate Grant.

• MVHS scored district’s highest EOC Algebra I scores in 2011.

• MVHS staff contributed $2,000 towards Clearwater Elementary School’s Back Pack food program for needy students.

• MVHS Staff received 2011-2012 School of the Year United Way Award for highest percentage increase of contributions over the previous year.

• NJROTC received the Unit Achievement Award.

• MVHS Band named a 2011 Honor Band of America. Eligible students performed in the All-State Orchestra.

• FFA program received National 3-Star Gold Emblem chapter status, which ranked MVHS in the top 3% of all FFA programs in the nation.

• MVHS students volunteered many hours with Toys For Tots, United Way of Aiken County, Meals on Wheels, Relay For Life, Ronald McDonald House and Special Olympics.

• MVHS FFA received the South Carolina Governor’s Citation for Student Development.

• NJROTC cadets contributed over 2,900 hours of volunteer service to the community, school, and various organizations.

• Culinary Arts received the Gold Program Award from the SC Department of Hospitality and Tourism.

• MVHS hosted 2012 Special Olympics for the second year in a row.
