Some things never go out of style. Other things go

so far out of style that they come back into style: so it is with vintage clothing. "Vintage" has experienced such a resurgence in recent years that today's top designers unabashedly show off their vintage influences. Atlanta designer Ann Mashburn's wholly contemporary "shirtdress" design, for instance, takes its cues from mod '60's box dress styles. Three Midtown fashion boutiques take vintage even more literally by reselling carefully curated mixes of vintage fashion and accessories.

Before The Clothing Warehouse existed, hipsters had to spend hours trolling through racks of thrift store cast-offs if they hoped to unearth that one amazing

canvas jacket from the '60's just like Bob Dylan wore. Today, they can slip into The Clothing Warehouse at 999 Peachtree, where every t-shirt or pair of boots on display is a 1970's dream.

MyMyMy at 921 Peachtree Street celebrates the more glamorous side of vintage, pairing disco and deco designs to create looks so retro that they become modern all over again. Revolution11 at The Metropolis, 921 Peachtree St., takes vintage even further, augmenting their vintage fashions with carefully curated curios, such as rotary telephones, original Polaroid cameras and wooden AM radios. Midtown PizzaSome of Atlanta's best pizza joints are located right here in Midtown. The Midtown Beacon invited several neighbors over for a taste test.

One breezy sunny day this past March,

the crew from Midtown Beacon invited friends from Jamestown Properties over to sample pies from some of Midtown's most beloved Pizza joints. We asked servers at Piola, Baroanda, Antico, Taste of New York, Rocky Mountain Pizza, Vinny's New York Pizza, and Little Azio to suggest their favorite flavors. Slices in hand, we gathered at the 999 Peachtree Plaza on the corner of 10th & Peachtree to devour some pizza pies! Who had the best sauce, flavor, aroma and cheese,

we asked ourselves? In the end, we had to conclude that good pizza simply defies comparison. Some of us loved the chewy crusts on the New York style pizzas, while others preferred delicate Neapolitan crusts. We couldn't pick a winner, but we decimated about 10 pizzas trying!

Transformation: HairMidtown's James Madison Salon is undergoing some exciting décor upgrades this Spring. We sent in Shena Sabens, event specialist for Jamestown Properties, to see if they could transform her hair as dramatically as they are transforming the studio.

I've done some pretty crazy

things with my hair in the past, but I've never really messed with the length or the overall style. However, when I found out that James Madison Salon was about to undergo a studio

transformation, I decided now was an ideal time to let them transform me as well.

I'd brought some photos for inspiration, and the colorist, Aryn, explained that the photos showed a style called "ombre color," where the hair changes color abruptly between the root and ends. She suggested that I try a technique called "color melting" instead, which achieves a subtler, more graduated effect. She proceeded to apply a thick layer of color by hand, blending from light to dark, until my hair resembled a Van Gogh. Once the color had set, my stylist, Sue, got started on the cut, giving me my first-ever set of bangs, and meticulously sculpting subtle layers.

While Sue was working, the owner, James Madison, stopped by to give me the low-down on his upcoming salon renovations. The Salon is getting a brand-new storefront with a dedicated entrance on Peachtree Street, dark hardwood floors and fixtures, a coffee bar, and non-linear mirror and lighting details to provide a sense of continuous movement. other style shops is that James trains every member of his staff in-house, ensuring that each one is well-versed in not only his techniques, but also his vision for amazing service. I certainly received the star treatment during my styling experience; before I knew it, Sue was turning my chair around, and I had my first look at my transformed hair. I love it! The color darkens seamlessly from light auburn to chocolate, the bangs open up my eyes, and the layers frame my face perfectly. Well-dressed Southern gentlemen have

always been fashionable, but Southern men’s fashion isn’t all straw boaters and seersucker suits anymore. Modern Southern fashion, as exemplified by clothiers like Billy Reid, Peter Nappi, Ledbury and Sid Mashburn, has broken the bounds of regionalism and become part of a larger movement of vintage American style that is reflected in both fashion and home décor.

Like good bourbon or vinyl records, Southern men's fashion never quite goes out of style. Inspired by the relaxed pace of the South, modern Southern fashion has a cavalier

attitude about rules. Southern men mix plaids. They roll the cuffs of their jeans (after all, one never knows when the urge to fish will strike), and they wear boots to formal affairs.

MIDTOWN TO BECOME SOUTH’S FIRST URBAN ECO-DISTRICT

Midtown Alliance recently launched Greenprint Midtown, a community-wide action plan that will integrate sustainability throughout Midtown. During the kick-off event, attend-ees and experts in the field began discussing the needs and priorities in solving environmental challenges in the areas of energy, water, recycling, waste, and transportation. Midtown Alliance will continue to engage the public through facilitated discussions during upcoming community workshops. A pop-up park at 18th and West Peachtree will open in late spring and is a Greenprint collaborative effort between Midtown Alliance and Jamestown Properties.

FOOD TRUCKS DRIVE INTO MIDTOWN

The Atlanta food truck craze continues to capture the attention of hungry Midtowners every Thursday. From 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on 12th & Peachtree (across from STK), diners can enjoy a variety of food choices ranging from Creole and cupcakes to sliders and salads. Beginning April 5, there will also be food trucks and a weekly pop-up chef on the corner of 10th and Peachtree. MIDTOWN STREET IMPROVEMENTS CONTINUE

For months, Midtown Alliance has been steadily working to improve the streets of Midtown through its streetscape plan. An improvement to the Ponce de Leon and North Avenue intersections is the newest streetscape project that is currently underway; the goal of this project is to transform the southern section of Midtown. Some improvements include:
