Midway.

Japanese and the United States Pacific fleet in World War II.

When was the battle?On the 4th day of June of

the year 1942 the battle of the Midway began.

The battle lasted four days.

The Battle of the Midway ended on June 7th 1942

What happened? The Battle of the Midway

was fought during the in WWII. Before the start of this battle Japanese military were on their way trying to capture territory, throughout Asia, and the Pacific. Japanese military planned on capturing the Midway to use as an advance base to destroy the U.S. Pacific Fleet. The U.S. had already planned to take on the Japanese, due to good communications. The U.S. Fleet had a surprise attack on the Japanese forces. The battle resulted in an Allies victory by U.S. experts that had broken the Japanese fleet code

and also by sinking four Japanese carries and defeating a number of Japanese planes.

Why did the battle take place?The Battle of the Midway was brought on by the Japanese

forces planning to defeat the U.S. Pacific Fleet. The Japanese were planning to take over the Midway to use it as an advance

base and destroy the U.S. Pacific Fleet.

USS YorktownThe USS Yorktown

fought during the Pearl Harbor attack but quickly got repaired and fought in the Battle of the Midway.

The first day of the battle the USS Midway was hit by the Japanese torpedoes and bombs which damaged the ship and was vacated that afternoon.

During the 6th day of fighting another Japan torpedo took out the carrier Hamman and also sunk the USS Yorktown.

USS Yorktown years later… In May 1998 the USS

Yorktown was found under water in good condition after the 56 years it has been there.

Akagi

Was a 34,364 ton aircraft carrier.

Was one of Japan’s largest aircraft carrier.

Was apart of the Pearl Harbor Attack in 1941, But a couple months later Akagi was heading to the midway and was bombed by the US causing it to catch fire.
