In Hindsight…
• Policy training• The Phase II migration caused a server crash due
to logging being turned on for OPAC searches• Know your software limits • Don’t migrate at the end of the fiscal year• Pay extra attention to matching points for bib
records• Be aware of the potential for loss of staff due to
change
Resources

types, item status, holdings tags and subfields, library information, ip range, age protection, and shelving location

ConsiderationsHuman Resources
– Who needs to be involved (roles)?– Roles: Project Manager, Trainers, Data
Reviewers, IT, etc…– Who needs to be available when?– Scheduling and setting expectations.– Will you have a help desk?– Clear channels of communication.
Considerations
Budget – How is the project being funded?– How much now and later?– When do the funds need to be spent?– Consider services you need from
Equinox and other vendors.– Data costs
Considerations
• Evaluate Data/Data Cost– Weeding & Inventory– Data Cleanup– Rebarcoding
• The Process– Policy mapping– Data mapping
– Data Extractions– Transactions– De-duplication
•Resource Allocation
Final Thoughts• Additional questions:
– Will you run your legacy system concurrently?– Do you need any development?– Will you need to close the library?– What documentation do you need on hand?– What’s your contingency plan?
• Making the most of this opportunity!– Discuss policies and resource sharing
services.– Discuss developments that could improve
your service and the product.– Get involved!
