Miguel Torga is the pseudonym of Adolfo Correia da Rocha.

He was born in São Martinho da Anta, on 12 August 1907 and he died on 17 January1995, in Coimbra, because of cancer.

He was one of the most influent 20 century writers in Portugal .

He came to Coimbra in 1928 to study at the university.

He has a monument in his honour over the river Mondego.

He often wrote about injustice and abuse of power.

The house where he lived in Coimbra is now a museum.

Miguel Torga published 9 books of poetry, 18 books of prose, 16 diaries and 3 books of theatre.
