MILAN. A village of about 250 people, located on the dividing line between Washtenaw and

Monroe counties, the principal portion of the place being in York township, Washtenaw county.

It is on the line of the Toledo, Ann Arbor and Northern railroad, which is graded to this place,

but as yet incompleted. The Saline river affords moderate water power. The soil here is rich and

highly productive, grain and fruit being staples. A machine shop, cider mill, grist mill, saw mill

and hoop factory are operated. Lumber, wood, hoops, apples and grain are shipped. Distance to

Ann Arbor, 16 miles; to Monroe, 21 ; to Detroit, 40. Stages to Monroe and Ypsilanti 3 times a

MILAN. Is located at the crossing of the T., A. A. & N. M. and the D. & I. div. W., St. L. & P.

R. R's.on the Saline river, 15 miles south of Ann Arbor, 22 northwest of Monroe, and 40

southwest of Detroit. The dividing line of Washtenaw and Mon roe counties passes through the

village, the larger portion being in York township, Washtenaw county. Among the

manufacturing enterprises are a roller process flouring mill, 2 steam saw mills, 2 stave factories,

cider and planing mills, foundry, an Alden evaporating works, and ex tensive brick and tile

works. Two newspapers, the Leader and the Journal, are published. A public library and public

hall are also here. Has a new hotel and a new Baptist church. The village is growing very rapidly.

Shipments, grain, fruit, general produce, lumber, timber, wood, brick, etc. Settled, 1831.

Telephone facilities are afforded by the Michigan Bell Telephone Co. Population, 800. Tel., W.

MILAN. Population, 1.000. A flourishing village located on the Saline river, at the crossing of

the Ann Arbor and the Wabash rail roads, 13 miles southeast of Ann Arbor, 20 northwest of

Monroe and 40 southwest of Detroit. The dividing line of Washtenaw and Monroe counties

passes through the village, the larger portion being in York township, Washtenaw county. It was

settled in 1831, Is surrounded by a splendid farming country, and contains Baptist, Methodist,

Union and Presbyterian churches, 7-room brick school house, opera house, seating capacity 700,

a public library, a public hall, 3 hotels, a bank, steam saw mills, a roller process flour mill, cider

and planlng mills, a foundry and machine shop, cigar factory, fruit evaporating works and

extensive brick and tile works, grain elevator, wheelbarrow factory, and wood turning works. A

weekly newspaper, the Leader, is published. The shipments, which are large. Include grain, fruit,

general produce, lumber, timber, wood, brick, tile, etc. Is lighted by electricity.

Telephone facilities are afforded by the Michigan Tele phone Co. Tel., W. U. and Postal. Exp.,

Population,1,655. Dating its settlement from 1831, is located on the Saline river, at the crossing

of the Ann Arbor and the Wabash railroads, 14 miles southeast of Ann Arbor, 22 northwest of

Monroe and 37 southwest of Detroit. The dividing line of Washtenaw and Monroe counties

passes through the village, the larger portion being in York township, Washtenaw county, and

the other portion being in Milan township, Monroe county, and it is surrounded by a splendid

farming country. It is lighted by electricity and has Baptist. Catholic. Methodist. Union and

Presbyterian churches. a. 9-room brick school house. 2 opera houses, a public library, 2 banks.
