The National Hereford Sale

Page 2: Mile High Hereford Sale

Dear Hereford Breeders,

Welcome to the 106th National Western and the Mile High Night National Hereford Sale. The Hereford sale is a highlight of Denver each year. The powerful showing of Herefords on the Hill and in the Yards has caught the attention of many cattlemen regardless of their breed loyalty.

This year’s sale offering offers strong generations of genetics from some of the top Hereford operations in North America. This sale features a stout offering of bulls. Bulls from this sale have made their impact in the Hereford industry. If you are considering a top Hereford bull for your operation, please take some time and review the bulls in this sale.

The female offering has traditionally been stellar, offering some of the best genetics to be found in the Hereford business. As in the past, the Mile High Night affair offers picks of females, outstanding pregnancies, a superior selection of embryos, flushes to great donors and some superior show heifer prospects.

This year the sale will be conducted after the yard show is completed on Friday afternoon. Sale management has the privilege of adding lots to the sale selected from all the Hereford entries that show or display in Denver. With the outstanding consignments in this sale catalog, the Mile High Night promises to be an event for all serious Hereford breeders.

We would like to invite Hereford breeders from across North America to join us for this great Hereford evening. The sale starts at 6 p.m. (MST) and the seats in the Beef Palace Auction Arena will fill fast. If you want a seat, come early. We look forward to seeing you in Denver. Feel free to contact us if we can answer any questions or provide additional information.

Sincerely,

Eddie C. Sims and Joe Rickabaugh

6y— p43177752 — A son of 719T out of our great donor dam, Violet. Violet is the dam of Cracker Jack, AH Yankee and several Mile High Sale entries. A goggle-eyed bull with the performance, eye appeal and numbers to meet the needs of the most discriminating breeder.

2y — p43182819 — A daughter of 719T out of a top young AH Yankee daughter that is now in our donor program. Great style and thickness with EPDs that are hard to beat. She will show and make a foundation female.

26y — p43173640 — One of the top sons of Cracker Jack we have had. His full sister, 9Y, is a member of our Pen of Three. His dam is our 20R donor cow that has been a great producer and her daughters are making great cows. This calf has the style, balance and performance to be a top herd bull that should leave a great set of females.

9y — p43173637 — A Cracker Jack daughter out of our 20R donor. Her full brother, 26Y, is also pictured. Lots of volume and style in this heifer. She will be competitive and with her pedigree, should make an outstanding cow.

68y — p43177797 — One of the first sons of Harvie Tailor Made, his dam is a full sister to Cracker Jack and is quickly becoming one of our top donors. This calf has tremendous style and pigment and should produce high performing calves.

23y — p43177783 — Here is one of the first daughters of Shock & Awe. Her dam, 14R, is an 8E daughter that has been a great donor for us and is now owned by Ned and Jan Ward. This heifer is loaded with mass and volume and yet retains femininity and that cow look.

With the soundness, power, softness and eye appeal, she is simply something special. Her sire, GH Adams Gold Nugget ET 378W, was the 2009 Agribition Bull Calf Champion and 2010 National Western Reserve Bull Calf Champion. Her dam, CC 52S 28R Priscilla 22U, was the 2010 National Western Reserve Yearling Champion and several times cow-calf champion. This is the first heifer calf offered out of Priscilla. Priscilla is very complete and beautiful. Upon calving her first calf, she had a great udder. Priscilla weaned our highest ratioing calf as a heifer. Priscilla’s dam, CC CX Fortress Thunder 28R, has naturally raised three in a row that won classes at the National Western in Denver and the National Nugget calf champion in Reno in 2010.

We bred 28R to CC United 52X, owned with

Semex International and Elm Lodge, twice. That mating produced CC Priscilla 22U, who was the 2010 National Western Reserve Yearling Champion. 28R’s April bull calf, CC Currency 16V, was a class winner at the National Western and Reno. Her last calf, CC McClintock 50X, was the Nugget Bull Calf Champion in Reno last fall. All of the above were natural calves raised by 28R. With the success of the About Time progeny, we feel this mating to be of national sale quality.

All three of thee classy heifer calves will be competitive in the showring. Retaining 50% flush rights.

• To acquire the status of Langford Donor Dam, a cow must be at least five years old. This gives time to evaluate her true character and value of her progeny.

• Each calf from a potential donor must be born in the first thirty days of the calving season. Early calves prove fertility. Fertility is first and foremost in Langford’s breeding program.

• Each of the potential donor’s calves must index in the top 5% of all calves born each year. These top calves indicate exceptional maternal genetics.

• Langford donor cows have sound udders, and overall structural correctness, contributing to longevity and long term value.

• These traits together with optimum EPDs, phenotype with eye appeal, and good disposition complete the overall criteria for Langford’s choice of donor dams.

• Langford’s have been selecting and marketing registered Herefords for more than 70 years. Attention to performance records, fertility, disposition, and longevity result in top producing Langford Hereford females. Only the exceptional, very top producing cows from this outstanding gene pool, are selected as donor dams.

• With this offering you take advantage of Langford’s long-time Hereford Breed experience and their donor dam’s stacked generations of genetic excellence.

• First time offered.

langford herefords offers your choice of a flush from their power packed genetic donor dams.

With her 719T daughter at side, she has been awarded 2011 Champion Cow-Calf at the Montana State Fair, Great Falls; Montana Fair, Billings; and the Wyoming State Fair. She has been flushed successfully this spring and bred back to maintain a 343-day calving interval. • As we considered what to consign to the Mile High sale, we came to the conclusion that we wanted to share the ground floor of what we feel is the new generation of Donor females here at Split Butte. For the past two years we have not held our annual production sale in order to retain the top end of our embryo heifer crop and regroup for the future. We are selling you the first opportunity to appraise these females and choose the one that would best fit your program and herd sires. You are buying, your choice

Natasha 85Y is a super long fronted, powerful daughter of Remedy. • 12Y has as much natural rib shape as any calf we’ve raised. He possesses tremendous depth of rib and moves with ease. In addition, he is an outcross to most cow herds in the country. This mating of T-Bone to the Radar cow family has continued to produce great individuals such as our 2010 national sale heifer going to Teets Farm of West Virginia and our most recent American Royal sale heifer going to Boyd Beef Cattle. 12Y is backed with cow power too. His dam and grandam were both active on last year’s Dams of Distinction list at 6- and 12-years-old respectively. We expect a maternal sister to join them this year as well.

• Holly will most certainly be one of the most powerful donor prospects to sell this year. Her full sister, 332U, was the lead cow in the Share the Vision 2011 Production Sale, selling for $25,000. Her dam 526P, an Online x Braxton Giant, descends from two great breeding programs, Star Lake and Gerber. Holly herself is one of the bigger framed, bigger ribbed P606 daughters you have ever laid your eyes on.
