KEY NOTE SPEAKERStephen O’Connor,local authorStephen O’Connor is a native of Lowell, where much of his writing is set. He is the author of Smokestack Lightning, a collection of short stories, and the novels The Spy in the City of Books, and The Witch at Rivermouth. His short stories have appeared in The Massachusetts Review, The Houston Literary Review, Aethlon, Sobotka Literary Magazine, and elsewhere.

His short story “Work, Music and Love” recently won the Helen Literary Award, while “St. Lucy’s Day” received honorable mention in a short

story contest in the British journal, Open Road Review. He lives in Lowell with his wife Olga, and is currently at work on a comic novel tentatively entitled This Is No Time to Quit Drinking.

ARTIST HENRI MATISSEA master of 20th century Modernism, the artistic career of Henri Matisse (1869 - 1954) proves his boundless creativity and energy. This seminar presents an overview of Henri Matisse’s life and art, beginning with his powerful Fauvist work. Matisse’s style continued to change and evolve, as we see his subject matter gravitate around the female form, leading to his mature style focusing purely on color and form.
