With the end of summer, there are some great events to begin adding to your calendar. Please find time to attend the Darrtown Fall Festival on September 20 and 21, and looking ahead, there is the Milford Twp Fire Association Spaghetti Dinner on April 18th, 2020! This mailing owes a ton to Henry Sester and KetMoy Printing (www.ketmoy.com). Henry puts the Township first, as he publishes this newsletter at a large discount. We are also grateful to be supported (see ads inside) by some great local businesses; Realtor Tammy Thome and Clermont County Equipment (formerly Dunkelberger Lawn & Garden). If you would like to see past newsletters, contribute or add an important event, then please call Brad Mills at 907-6793, email [email protected], or visit www.milfordtownship.net. Save this date: April 18, 2020 for our annual Spaghetti Dinner! Our 2019 dinner was a huge success as over $10,000 was raised and all of it goes to Equipment, Educational supplies and other needs of the department. This year we purchased three new class D extinguishers for extinguishing magnesium and other metals. They cost $400 each. Harvest and Coop donated a grain rescue tube to the department. Along with a grant from Butler Rural Electric, the association purchased the necessary accessories to use the equipment safely. We have trained several times with other departments, and Harvest Land, in the proper use of this equipment. In April of this year, five firefighters from our department attended FDIC (Fire Dept Instructors Conference) in Indianapolis, Indiana for five days of intensive training. The training included classroom, demonstrations, and displays of all types of safety and fire equipment. This shows the dedication of our members! Some had to use vacation time off work to attend. Remember we make mailbox address reflective signs! These make it easier for Fire, EMS and Public Safety people to find your home, especially at night. To order, call 513 -726-4311, leave a message, and we will get back with you. Also, remember to keep your driveways clear of low hanging tree limbs Fire Trucks are large and need at least 10 feet of clearance. Our aluminum can collecting is on going! Thanks to all who are donating. If you are not, why not! Every can counts: you may think a few cans don't make a difference, but they do, so please help us by donating. There are barrels at each station where you can place your can donations. As fall approaches, remember to change the batteries in your CO and smoke detectors, and have your chimney cleaned for the winter season The Fire Department will be at the Bogan Carnival September 28th. Hope to see you there! The 2019 Darrtown Fall Festival runs from 4 to 11 PM, Friday, September 20th and from 9 AM to 11 PM, Saturday, September 21st. Butler County Auditor, David Brown, Deputy Auditor

The diligence of Butler County Auditor Roger Reynolds to doggedly pursue illegal credit card skimmers and make life difficult for those who engage in this criminal activity has paid dividends as the FBI arrested a man for installing skimmers on gas pumps in Butler and Hamilton counties.

“If you install skimmers in Butler County I’m going to confiscate your devices, catch you on camera and you will be prosecuted,” said Auditor Reynolds. According to the prosecuting agency, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio, Yosbel Ponce Bernal, 26, was charged with using gas pump skimmers in Butler and Hamilton counties. Using a skimmer is a federal crime punishable by 15 years in prison. Ponce is a Cuban national with a Florida address who has sought asylum in the U.S. He was arrested in Louisville, Ky. on June 21 and extradited to Cincinnati a short time later. “It’s unfortunate we take people into our country who repay our act of kindness by stealing from us,” Reynolds said. The FBI used visual information obtained by the Butler County Auditor’s Office in October 2018 to help ID Ponce, along with fingerprints collected from a pump in Hamilton County. On Sunday, May 26, 2019, The Darrtown Memorial Association proudly observed our 121st Annual Service at the Darrtown Cemetery. Mother Nature cooperated with a rather warm but rain free afternoon so all who attended could enjoy the patriotic program, beautiful day, and shared comradery with family and friends. Our program was enthusiastically received and we want to publicly thank those that helped make this 121st event memorable. The Methodist Men’s Choir (Tom Agee, Blaine Beckemeier, Chris Jordan, Jim Leyrer, and Chris Trumbull) shared their Acapella voices with song, singing God Bless America, Some Gave All and Battle Hymn of the Republic. Pastor Chris Trumbull, The Darrtown United Methodist Church, graciously provided our Invocation and Pastor Robert Browning, St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Darrtown gave the Benediction. The Milford Mini Farmers 4-H Club and Supervisors Toni and Jeff Schwab presented a very informative and heartfelt program … “The Poppy Flower, A Symbol of Remembrance”. Our speaker, Chris Jordan gave remarks as our guest speaker. We ended the service with every one joining in the singing of “Taps”. We would also like to acknowledge, Randy Couch, RAC Graphics for our signs and Bethart Printing who prints our programs. We would like to take this opportunity to invite anyone interested in joining The Darrtown Memorial Association to attend our next meeting Monday, September 16, 2019 at the Darrtown United Methodist Church at 7:00 p.m. to help us plan our upcoming 122st Annual Service. We are always looking for enthusiastic individuals to join us and help in the planning of our annual service. Members of The Darrtown Memorial Association: Mark Habel-Chair, Sandy Ward Jolivette-Secretary, Mollie Hansel-Treasurer, Amy Butterfield, Rebecca Evans, and Carolyn Russell. This year’s program was dedicated to Donna Gallagher, Paul Gillespie and Myra Krauth for their dedication and many, many years of faithful service to the Darrtown Memorial Association and the communi-ty! Thank you all! Below are pictures from the day! Boy Scouts placing flags at cemetery!
