Thedamaged leather case also has his initials and Guards Club onit. (base needs re-stitching on). Sir John Courtown EdwardShelley was born in 1871 and died in 1951. He married EleanorGeorgina Rolls, whose brother Hon Charles Stewart Rollsfounded Rolls Royce before becoming the first British aircraftcasualty in 1910. Assuming the surname Shelley-Rolls in 1917,Sir John became the 6th Baronet of Castle Goring. ServedScots Guards Capt retired pay. Estimate: £60.00 - £80.00

Lot: 31A KATANA. A Katana in civilian mounts with iron tsuba andwooden saya. Signed with a Showa stamp then, Aso-Shu/no-Ju/Fuku-Moto/Kane-Mune. The translation roughly is Made by-Kane-Mune-living at Seki-in Mino province. The smith does notappear to be recorded. Faded blue bindings with plain Fuchiand Kashira, lightly engraved leaf patterns on the tsuba. Plainblack lacquer on the saya, brass habaki. 25.1/2" curved bladewith some light staining in places. Estimate: £500.00 - £600.00

Lot: 32A KATANA. A Japanese Katana with polished or plated bladeof 67.5cm. In Showa mounts with blue/brown sword knot, thetang unsigned with two mekugi-ana. Steel scabbard withleather outer cover.Estimate: £100.00 - £150.00

Lot: 33CASED BINOCULARS ( Sir J C E SHELLEY) Sir JohnCourtown Edward Shelley-Rolls 6th Bt was a Baronet of thefamous Shelley family and assumed the additional -Rolls to hissurname later in life (1917). Educated at Wellington College,born 5th August 1871. Commissioned into the Scots Guards hesaw action during the South African War. In the Gt War hecommanded the 3rd Queens Westminster Cadet Battalion. Hemarried Eleanor Georgina Rolls Daughter of Baron Llangattock( John Allen Rolls) of Rolls - Royce fame. C P Goerz of Berlinmarked Binoculars, 12x Army Trieder DRP markings and hisname. Brown leather case complete but needs some repair tostitching.

Lot: 62A SET OF W W 11 PILOTS RAYBAN SUNGLASSES. CasedWW11 period blue tinted Rayban sunglasses, worn by thedecorated Pilot Flt Lt Bob McLean DFC. He flew the first planeinto Japan after the surrender, The Spirit of Middlesex' aDakota. The Far East Transport Squadron he flew in was toconsist of some very highly decorated pilots, many withexperiences in Lancasters over Berlin.Bob McLean himselfbrought his Lancaster back when a bomb dropped from ahigher flying plane, smashed the nose off his aircraft overGermany. With copy details and wartime photographs of Fl LtMcLean. His Raybans are contained in their original aluminiumcase, marked B & L, made in the USA.Estimate: £40.00 - £60.00

Lot: 70A WAKASASHI. A Japanese Wakasashi with 43cm full grooveblade, signed Sekishu Sadayoshi Saku. One character hasbeen pierced with a mekugi-ana , when the blade wasshortened for later mounts. Themuzzle and breech and parts of the octagonal barrel, are finelydecorated with silver adornments again of high quality. Bonehammer cover has again some silver decoration. Born in St Marys Parish Nottingham, heenlisted in the summer of June 1797 aged 23 years. Signing onfor unlimited service he gave his former trade as frame-workknitter. If he joined the 76th Ft straight away he may have beenpresent at the Campaigns in 1803 and Deig 1804. If he hadbeen alive still in 1851, he may have claimed his entitlement.His MGS was issued 34 years after the Peninsular War. 99Officers and men of the 76th Foot received the Nive Clasp. He is shown as joining the regulararmy from the Nottingham Militia. A native of nottingham hewould have served firstly in Jersey with the 76th Foot. The sonof George Langton and Ann Langton he was baptised at StMarys Parish, Nottingham in October 1789 After brief service inEngland he would have gone to Spain where he was awardedthe MGS with Corunna claps. He served in the Ill fatedWalcheron expedition after the vRegimant being withdrawn in1809 from Spain. Upon return from the Netherlands they wereposted to Ireland. Lot: 318A WATERLOO MEDAL TO THE 33rd FOOT. A Waterloo medalwith asterisks each end of the official naming, Pte H Barbar33rd Regiment Foot. Henry Barbar was born in AthertonLancashire, a cordwainer by trade prior to his enlistment. (GoatSkin Leatherworker). In May 1811 he was attested to the 33rdFoot in Portsmouth aged 21 years. As the Regiment wasreturning home from India, he was sent to the Depot at Hull. InJuly 1812 he joined the Regiment and rose quickly through theranks, Corporal in May 1812 and Sergeant in October 1812.However the rise was to end in April 1813, broken fromSergeant to Private, where stayed for 12 years. He served withthe Regiment in Stralsond and Rostock before returning tiEngland in 1813. Sailing to Holland in December 1814, he waspresent at the Storming of Bergen and the Capture of Antwerp.Then onto the Battle of Waterloo in 1915. In 1822 he waspromoted Corporal again and in 1825 Sergeant. Whilst servingwith his Regiment in Jamaica , he was in the 'Ocean' aTransport that struck the Reef off Antigua. During his servicethere he took part in many minor actions against rebellingnatives He was discharged in 1830 'Owing ti illness contracted

Lot: 320A PUNJAB MEDAL 2/1 BOMBAY ARTILLERY. The Punjabmedal with two clasps Goojerat amd Mooltan, officially namedto Bombr Robt Wolfe, 2nd Co, 1st Battn Artillery. Whilstattacking the Fortress of Mooltan City, the reinforcementsincluding Wolfes Bombay Artillery made the difference. Some ofthe walls were 70 ft high and strong. The city finally fell inJanuary 1849, and the march to join General Gough's forcebegan. Averaging 20 miles a day in temperatures of 130degrees F, they marched for three weeks solid. On the 18thFebruary the combined force beat the enemy at ChennahRiver. The Battle of Goojerat smashed the Sikh Army, thoughmopping up was to take much longer. Interestingly the naming isoff centre, possibly due to the disc turning when struck. EnsignBarr was on the strength of the 33rd Regt attached from theStaff Corps India, confirmed by the roll. David William KeithBarr was born 29th November 1846, the son of Lt GeneralHenry James Barr, Bombay Staff Corps. Commissioned Ensignon the 20th Sept 1864, Lt 22 july 1868, after his return to Indiafrom the Abyssinian War. He was promoted to Captain in 1876,twelve years to the day from becoming an Ensign. From 1881until 1887 He was Political Agent and Superintendent Rewah,promoted Major 20th September 1884. In 1888 He becameResident at Gwalior whence he remained until 1892. Promotedto Lt Col 20th September 1890, whilst at this post. He thenserved in Kashmir for two years. From 1894-1900 he served inCentral India as the Governor Generals Agent. From 1900-1905 He was Resident at Hyderabad and was made a KnightCommander of the Most Excellent Order of the Star of India.Dating from the 26th June 1902. With bar for Ali Musjid (21-11-1878),the hill fortress at the entrance to the Khyber Pass. Pte JamesBrown embarked for India in the City of Brussels, 30thNovember 1870, joining his Regiment the 1/17th LeicestershireRegt in March 1871. Remaining at Lucknow or Delhi untilserving in Indishera and Peshawar in 1874. In July and Augusthe was stationed in a small Hill Station called Cherat, near toNowshera. The 1/17th were part of the Peshawar Field Forcewhich crossed the Frontier at Jamrud and captured Ali Musjidthe same day. They took part in the Punitive Raid into theBazar Valley, 21st-24th December. After that they wereemployed on the duties of maintaining roads and protectingconvoys etc. Pte Brown transferred to the 33rd Regt in 1880.Estimate: £250.00 - £300.00

At the ageof four he discovered a love and talent for music, and was inthe choir at Westminster Abbey. In 1846 he became a subprofessor of the piano -forte, remaining on the staff for 57years. the Japanese Army building the bridge. He saw action inFrance and then commanded the Hertfordshire Yeomanryduring the Defence of Singapore (DSO). Despite being orderedto evacuate, he stayed to be with his men. He was to enduremany beatings when complaining about the inhuman treatmentof the 12,000 POWs. He organised smuggling in of food andmedicine. He refused to allow a separate Officers Mess,ordered all officers to intercede for the men who were to bepunished. He witnessed the bayonetting of two officers heassisted to escape. Over 200 Japanese were hanged for theircrimes, Sgt Major not Col Saito was saved by ColonelToosey's direct intervention.
