Heather Beach, Molly Brown, Dr. Mette Harder, Dr. Kenneth Havenstein, Dr. Achim Koeddermann, Jodi Oaks, Alex Puricelli, Taylor Sjursen Faculty members from Philosophy, Art, History, and the Library are working together with their students on different interpretations of the rare mass-market edition of Diderot’s and d’Alembert’s Encyclopédie, ou dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers (1771-1781). This valuable and prestigious resource is available in Milne Library’s Alden Room, home of the College’s Special Collections – truly, a “secret garden” of rare and wonderful archival documents and other special collections. The display highlights both these efforts and the Encyclopédie’s content, as it invites viewers, in eighteenth-century fashion, to discuss over a cup of coffee.
