Greetings from Karungu. We are pleased to share with you the events that took place at the Center during the month of June. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. Fr. Grazie e tutti voi per il continuo supporto e collaborazione. Padre Emilio ______________________________________________________________________ 3rd June Dala Kiye in collaboration with We World Onlus supported three care giver groups with 1 tent and 50 plastic chairs each. This was part of an economic empowerment programme that seeks to enable the caregivers to generate some income which in turn is used to support the vulnerable children under their care. The members of the three groups were very happy and thanked the two institutions for their kind gesture.

3 Giugno Il Dala Kiye, in collaborazione con We World Onlus, ha consegnato a tre gruppi di famiglie 1 tenda e 50 sedie di plastica ciascuno, come parte di un programma di emancipazione economica che mira a consentire agli operatori sanitari di generare un reddito che a sua volta viene utilizzato per sostenere i bambini vulnerabili sotto la loro cura. I membri dei tre gruppi sono stati molto contenti e hanno ringraziato le due istituzioni per il loro gesto gentile.

12th June All the 18 schools working with Dala Kiye received one waste bin each as part of the Project’s efforts to improve solid waste management system within the schools. The bins were erected at strategic points and the children educated on their use. The children and teachers were also sensitized on waste disposal by the project staff. This was made possible through the support of We World Onlus. 12 Giugno Tutte le 18 scuole che lavorano con il Dala Kiye hanno ricevuto un bidone dei rifiuti ciascuna come parte degli sforzi del progetto per migliorare il sistema di gestione dei rifiuti solidi all'interno delle scuole. I bidoni sono stati posizionati in punti strategici per i bambini che sono stati istruiti sul loro uso. I bambini e gli insegnanti sono stati anche sensibilizzati allo smaltimento dei rifiuti da parte del personale del progetto. Tutto questo grazie al sostegno di We World Onlus.

13th June Fr. Emilio arrived back in Karungu after a two months’ vacation in Italy and was received very happily by both the children and staff. He had gone to Italy to attend to his sick mother. He returned together with Antonella Da Ros from Treviso and Ornella Volpato from Monza. The two are our regular visitors and very dedicated and great friends of our Institution. Antonella who is an Aesthesist will spend time attending to patients in hospital while Ornella will assist with administrative work. 13 Giugno Padre Emilio è tornato a Karungu dopo un periodo di due mesi passato in Italia ad assitere la mamma malata: è stato ricevuto con gioia sia dai bambini che dallo staff. Con lui sono arrivate anche Antonella Da Ros di Treviso e Ornella Volpato di Monza, che sono ormai nostre buone amiche in quanto vengono a trovarci regolarmente. Antonella che è anestesista si occuperà dei pazienti in ospedale, mentre Ornella supporterà il team in amministrazione.

15th June A group of visitors arrived in Karungu in readiness for a one day mission to learn and document on some of the activities that have been financed by We World Onlus. The delegation comprised of Tiziano Codazzi from Italy office, a journalist by the name Francesca Senette who works as We World Onlus ambassador, Marcello Forti who is Francesca’s husband and Nicola, a photographer who was hired to cover the projects. Guiding the team were Annarita Spagnuoulo and Nancy Akeyo both of We World Kenya foundation. During their mission, the team interacted with project clients, listened to client experiences and visited some of the schools that benefited from Infrastructure improvement. The team also had an extensive tour of our hospital. 15 Giugno Un gruppo di visitatori è arrivato a Karungu per una breve missione di un giorno per conoscere e documentare alcune delle attività che sono state finanziate da We World Onlus. La delegazione, composta da Tiziano Codazzi di We World Onlus Italia, Francesca Senette giornalista e ambasciatore per We World Onlus, suo marito Marcello Forti e Nicola, un fotografo incaricato di documentare i progetti, era accompagnata da Annarita Spagnuoulo e Nancy Akeyo, entrambi di We World Kenya. Durante la loro missione, il gruppo ha interagito con le persone parte del progetto, ha ascoltato le loro esperienze e ha visitato alcune delle scuole che hanno beneficiato di un miglioramento delle infrastrutture. Hanno poi visitato il nostro ospedale.

16th June The Centre hosted the Day of the African Child 2015 celebrations. The events that characterised the day were a Holy Mass, entertainment, speeches, ball games and awards ceremony. The theme of this year’s celebration was, “Accelerating our collective efforts to end child marriage in Africa.” In attendance were children, staff, teachers, government officers, community members, members of Camillian community in Karungu and a delegation from We World Onlus. The celebration was enjoyed very much by the participants. 16 Giugno Il Centro ha ospitato la Giornata del Bambino Africano 2015. La giornata è iniziata con la Santa Messa cui sono seguiti intrattenimenti, discorsi, giochi e consegna dei premi. Il tema della celebrazione di quest'anno è stato: "Accelerare i nostri sforzi collettivi per porre fine ai matrimoni dei bambini in Africa". Presenti alla festa bambini, personale, insegnanti, funzionari governativi, membri della comunità, membri della comunità camilliana di Karungu e una delegazione di We World Onlus. La celebrazione è stata molto apprezzata da tutti i partecipanti.

24th June Antonella who has been in Karungu for two weeks and who was scheduled to travel back the following day (25th June) came to the Centre to bid farewell to the children and staff. The wished her a safe journey back home. 24 Giugno Per Antonella, che è stata a Karungu per due settimane, è ora di tornare a casa in Italia: è venuta al Centro per salutare i bambini e lo staff che le hanno augurato buon viaggio.

25th June A two days workshop for teachers that was taking place at the Passionist Centre for Evangelization (Golgotha) came to a close with participants being urged to replicate what they had learnt in the workshop in their respective schools. The sessions which covered curriculum development and delivery approaches were facilitated by the officials from the Ministry of education, science and technology, Nyatike Sub – County office. The event was sponsored by Dala Kiye and We World Onlus. 25 Giugno Un seminario di due giorni per insegnanti si è svolto presso il Centro Passionista per l'Evangelizzazione Golgotha; al termine del seminario tutti i partecipanti sono stati invitati a replicare quello che avevano appreso durante il corso nelle rispettive scuole. Le sessioni, che avevano come tema lo sviluppo del curriculum e la relativa somministrazione, sono state tenute dai funzionari del Ministero dell'Istruzione, della Scienza e della Tecnologia, della contea di Nyatike. L'evento è stato sponsorizzato dal Dala Kiye e We World Onlus.

28th June In the morning, the children together with their foster mothers attended a Holy Mass at the hospital where they were joined by Sr. Olympia from Rongo who was together with three other Italian visitors. After the Mass, the visitors came to the Centre and had the opportunity to learn about the institution. They were also shown the physical facilities like family houses, dining hall and administration block. The visitors were very impressed with what they saw and learnt. In the afternoon, our children were joined by children from Kiranda girls primary which is a neighbouring day and boarding school. The two groups went to the lake together where they had fun playing in the water and then eating biscuits. They were accompanied by the staff, three sisters from Kiranda, Ornella and Fr. Emilio.

28 Giugno E’ domenica mattina e i bambini insieme alle mamme adottive hanno partecipato come sempre alla Santa Messa presso l'ospedale, dove sono stati raggiunti da Suor Olimpia di Rongo e da tre ospiti italiani. Dopo la Messa, il gruppo di amici è venuto al Centro e ha avuto l'opportunità di conoscere la struttura: sono state mostrate lore le case famiglia, la sala da pranzo e il blocco amministrativo. I visitatori sono stati molto colpiti da quello che hanno visto.

Nel pomeriggio, i nostri bimbi insieme alle ragazzine della scuola primaria di Kiranda, sono andati al lago dove si sono divertiti giocando in acqua e mangiando poi biscotti. Erano accompagnati dal personale del Dala Kiye, da tre suore di Kiranda, con Ornella e Padre Emilio.

Special Events of June - Eventi speciali di Giugno I wish to thank once again our friends who support us in raising funds for our Mission, demonstrating the affection and concretness in supporting our projects. Here are three significant events. Desidero ringraziare i tanti amici che ci sostengono nel raccogliere fondi per la nostra missione dimostrando ancora una volta l’affetto e la concretezza nel sostenere i nostri progetti. Ecco tre eventi significativi.

Prof. Nicotra Mimmo of Catania, who came 10 years ago at Karungu where he made his last surgery, raised funds on the occasion of his 80th Birthday involving his friends. Il Prof. Mimmo Nicotra di Catania, venuto 10 anni fa a Karungu dove ha effettuato il suo ultimo intervento chirurgico, ha raccolto fondi in occasione del suo 80° Compleanno coinvolgendo i suoi amici di Catania. Tanti auguri a Mimmo da tutti noi… Cilento For Africa, a night of music in Casal Velino (Salerno) organized on June 12nd by Sara Pisu with traditional songs and dances of Cilento area, an event in which tourists participated massively.

Cilento For Africa una notte di musica a Casal Velino (Salerno) organizzato il 12 Giugno da Sara Pisu con canti e danze del Cilento, manifestazione a cui hanno partecipazione locali e molti turisti.
