Museum Green Roof (2016)

3,840 square foot green roof on

top of a newly renovated, world-

class art museum.

2. Discovery World Freshwater Sciences Lab (2015)

A science and technology center

featuring freshwater exhibits, the

Reiman Aquarium, and a scale model

of the Great Lakes. Also home to the

Dennis Sullivan, the state ship of

Wisconsin.

3. Central Library Green Roof + Solar Panels (2010)

Features a public 33,000 square foot

green roof and a photovoltaic solar

array that generates about 36,000

kilowatt hours per year.

5. The Brewery Development + Green Infrastructure (2006)

A mixed- use development that transformed the abandoned Pabst

Brewing complex into one of the most sustainable neighborhoods in the

country. Stormwater infrastructure now infiltrates over 75% of the

average annual rainfall and extracts over 85% of its pollutants.

4. Milwaukee Public Museum Green Roof (2011)+ Solar Wall (2014)

4,100 square foot green roof planted with1,000 biotrays of sedum. 234

solar panel wall linked to a kiosk that provides near-real-time data on

the energy generated by the panel.

7. Bradford Beach(2008)

Transformed from a polluted beach, Bradford Beach is now

Milwaukee’s most popular beach with educational signage, native

plantings, and rain gardens to reduce bacterial pollution.

6. Sage on Jackson(2015)

As the first LEED Platinum apartment building in Wisconsin, the

building features rainwater collection infrastructure, a solar array,

geo-thermal, and electric vehicle stations.

9. Urban Ecology Center: Riverside Park(2004)

An educational center located in Riverside Park, the Urban Ecology

Center features rainwater restrooms, a green roof, and solar power.

Arboretum with 70 tree species native to Southeastern Wisconsin,

variety of native wildflowers, grasses, shrubs, and plant communities

on reclaimed post-industrial.

8. UW-Milwaukee

The University has educational signage and numerous sustainable

initiatives including green roofs, storm water management systems,

11. MMSD HeadquartersGreen Roof (2004) + Blue Roof (2014)

Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District’s Headquarters with a

traditional green roof that can hold up to 1,500 gallons of water and

experimental blue roof system that stores excess water can be

equipped to empty right before another storm.

10. 88Nine Green Roof (2013)

Headquarters of popular Milwaukee radio station with 2,500 square-

foot green roof that covers 40 percent of the rooftop.

13. Global Water CenterResearch Facility + Green Roof (2013)

LEED Silver building that holds over 40 water-centric

companies & university tenants, as well as the headquarters

for the Global Water Council. A unique roof showcases

thirteen unique options of vegetated roofs to mitigate

stormwater.

12. Reed Street Yards Green Infrastructure (2014)

A future eco-industrial development, the Reed Street Yards will

be home to over 1 million square feet of water research

space. Infrastructure includes a system of urban bio swales

and rain gardens, a “purple pipe” for grey water recapture,

demonstration and educational projects

Automation Green Roof (2010)

Milwaukee global headquarters

building with sedum and native

perennial green roof that uses

electro-vector mapping in its

leak-detection system

14. Clock Shadow

Building (2012)

Awarded by AIA as a Top Ten Green

Project among other awards, this

sustainable office building uses 50%

less energy and 60% less water than a

typical building with a green roof,

geothermal wells, and the nation’s

first regenerative elevator.

16. UWM School of

Freshwater Sciences (2015)

Focusing on freshwater research and

graduate education, the school is

home to the Great Lakes Water Institute

as well as the only school dedicated to

freshwater research.

17. Port of MilwaukeeWind Turbine (2012)

Demonstration turbine that provides 100% of power used for the Port

of Milwaukee Administration Building, making it the first City of

Milwaukee municipal facility that is a "net zero" electric energy user.

18. Urban Ecology Center:

Menomonee Valley (2012)

An environmental educational center located in the Menomonee

Valley. Together with the Menomonee Valley Partners, the Urban

Ecology Center has helped transform 24 acres of wasteland into a

freshly planted outdoor learning area, doubled the Hank Aaron State

Trail with construction of a six-mile western extension, and vastly

improved pedestrian/ bike access into the valley.

19. MillerCoors Brewing CompanyRain Garden (2004) + Green Roof (2009)

Milwaukee Headquarters installed an 8,000 square foot green roof

and parking lot rain garden. Educates 100,000 visitors annually about

the importance of clean water to communities, stormwater runoff,

and pollutant reduction.

20. 6th Street Green Corridor(2011)

Located in Milwaukee’s Garden District, the “Green Corridor,” has a

community-organized and community-operated garden, a forum for

neighborhood sustainability in the Energy Exchange, and multiple

green infrastructure projects to reduce stormwater runoff, enhanced

landscaping and beautification, active and engaged neighborhood

and business associations displayed on a highly visible street to

demonstrate sustainability.
