The company pioneered in the islands the roll-on, roll off boat services between Negros-Cebu, Mindanao-Leyte, and Panay-Luzon. This family-owned and managed business has grown from a lone 14-seater jeepney plying a single route, to a conglomer- ate of transportation companies with a combined number of operating units of a little almost 3000 transport vehicles as of January 2010, operating in nearly 80 percent of the bus routes in the Visayas and Mindanao regions as well as some part of Luzon in the Philippines. The company pioneered inter-modal services between Negros and Cebu, Mindanao and Leyte, and Panay and Luzon. The company was founded in 1968 by Ricardo B. Yanson and his wife, Olivia Villaflores Yanson, beginning with the purchase of one jeepney unit. This effort ultimately be- came a jeepney-assembly business. In the early 1970s, the market was flooded with Ford Fieras; the couple decided to diversify into a small bus line which plied the Bacolod City-Valladolid-La Carlota route (hence, Vallacar) and christened it Ceres Liner. By 1980, Ceres Liner had covered the whole province of Negros and in 1981, they ventured into Mindanao. They bought out Fortune Express and Bachelor Express, both Cagayan de Oro-based bus companies in 1985, and formed Rural Transit of Mindanao, while retaining the name of the latter, as one of the conditions of the contract of sale. In 2005, the conglomerate bought out Lilian Express Inc. and sister company Mary May Express, its fiercest business rival and became the dominant transit company in the island of Mindanao. In 2007, its buses pioneered travel through the Western Nautical Highway. Value of organic gardeninging to harvest as a result. B y t h e s e , the farmer b e c o m e s the slave of many loans to invest in-organic plant needs just to have desir-able y ie ld. This g ives way to make the inorganic chemical pro-ducer richer.

To solve the problem of costly gardening produc-tion, it is necessary to go back to organic method of raising vegetables. Organic gardening is laborious but

it cost a very minimal ex-penses. The addition of compost, manure or any decayed matter to the soil could restore back the soil fertility through the process

of mixing compost and soil by cultivation. The gardener must make sure that the organic matter goes to the subsoil (8 - 10 inches deep) so that plant roots can still have sufficient uptake of nutrients. It is also by this method that soils air space increases as well as the in-crease of holding capacity of soil moisture. Remember plant roots not only need to eat nutrients, they also need plenty of fresh air to survive.

In organic gardening method, plant is protect-ed with natural pesticides and insecticides. Plants are boosted with natural soil and foliar fertilizers with full assurance of 100% chemical free vegetables. Advertorial

BUTUAN City––Police and army forces captured a New People’s Army propaganda leader in the vicinity of Ba-rangay Diatagon, Lianga, Surigao del Sur on Wednesday.

Caraga police spokesman Supt. Martin Gamba said Teddy Domandan Bager, 47, who carried aliases Bager, Teddy and Franco, was arrested at around 3 am in a joint operation by elements of Lianga police led by Senior Insp. Ignacio Serrano and 29th Infantry Battalion led by First Lt. Gerardo Joves.

Gamba said Bager is a member of the NPA under Front Committee 19-B and a Sandatahang Yunit Team Leader and political instructor with an arrest warrant for rebellion issued by Judge Alfredo Jalad of Lianga Regional Trial Court Branch 28. The rebel leader is number 5 in Lianga town’s list of most wanted persons, said Gamba.

According to Gamba, Bager was involved in the April 28, 2011 attack on the Lianga police station which was repelled by its personnel and army forces.

In a statement, Caraga police director Chief Supt. Reynaldo Rafal said the capture of Bager was the result of the combined efforts of police and army personnel and cooperation of “peace-loving village people.”

DAVAO City––Government troops have recovered Th urs-day aft ernoon three skeletal remains of villagers abducted and killed three years ago in the southern Philippines by communist rebels on suspicion they were military informants, offi cials said.

Skeletal remains of civilians killed by rebels recoveredPeople’s Army in Davao Oriental’s Lupon town. Th e rebels also abducted Pamboy Obengke in the same town and killed him and buried in the same grave in a remote village in Lupon.

“An NPA rebel who sur-rendered to the military has led soldiers to the grave site in the village of San Isidro,” said Major Maria Christina Rosa Manuel, of the 10th Infantry Division.

She said Palmeras’ el-

der brother, Pastor Edward Palmera, of the United Pen-tecostal Church, and other village officials have wit-nessed the recovery of the skeletal remains.

“Th e execution was con-fi rmed by a former rebel who surrendered recently to the 28th Infantry Battalion and he pointed the location of the shallow grave,” Manuel said.

The Palmera brothers were just selling cigarette lighters in the town when

rebels abducted them, while Obengke was a farmer and all three men were accused by the NPA as working for the military, an allegation denied by army.

“Th at’s not true. Th ose were innocent civilians mur-dered by the NPA,” Manuel said.

Th ere was no immediate statement from the rebel group about the murders of the three men. (Mindanao Examiner)

DAVAO City––Philippine soldiers arrested a man who was trying to smuggle improvised landmines and incendiary bombs in Compostela Val-ley province in the restive southern region of Mindanao where security forces are battling communist and Muslim insurgents.

Officials said troops discovered the explosives during a routine inspection at a military checkpoint Wednesday night in Pantukan town. The 35-year old truck driver, Oliver Bolusan, was arrested and inter-rogated by the military.

Lt. Col. Jerry Borja, commander of the 71st Infantry Battalion, who said they seized a dozen landmines and several incendiary bombs from the truck.

“These bombs can easily bring down a small building,” he said.

Borja said the bombs are owned by the communist rebel group New People’s Army, which is fighting for decades for the establishment of a separate Maoist state in the country. But he did not say whether the driver is a member of the NPA or just a courier. (Mindanao Examiner)

THINK a minute.Remember the wonder-

ful promises you made on your wedding day?

“I promise to always love you, care for you, respect and cherish you through everything we face in life. Whether we’re rich or poor, sick or healthy.”

But since our wedding day, we’ve found out those promises are much easier said than done!

If we’re completely hon-est, most of the time what we really mean by those beautiful promises is: “I want to be happy in life, and I believe you’re the one who’s going to make me happy.”

Most of us actually get

Marriage in debt

married more for what we can get than for what we can give.

So when you have two people in a marriage who are taking more than they’re giving, no one’s happy.

Many of us act like our mate owes us a debt to make us happy.

That’s what we expected from them when we got

married.When the honeymoon

was over, you probably learned that your wife or husband is not quite perfect.

They aren’t always meet-ing up to your expectations and making you happy.

Of course, we should always be trying to put each other’s needs first.

We should always be

improving and becoming more sensitive, kind and quicker to forgive each other.

But none of us has what it takes to totally satisfy all of our wife’s or husband’s needs and desires.

So we can never pay this impossible debt that we might expect from each other.

We humans simply don’t have that kind of love that never fails.

Love that always puts your wife’s or husband’s needs first.

Love that always forgives and accepts them no matter how much they wrong and disappoint you.

Think a Minute.

Think A Minute

Jhan Tiafau HurstJhan Tiafau Hurst

U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Hugo Black once remarked, “Only a free and unrestrained press can effectively expose deception in government.”

YESTERDAY, the Philippines joined the world in celebrating the World Press Freedom Day. The General Assembly of United Nations set every May 3 as World Press Freedom Day on December, 1993. The declaration was deep-rooted in the United Nations Article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration on Human Rights that state: “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regard-less of frontiers.” (http://www.unac.org/en/news_events/un_days/press.asp)

For Filipino journalists, the celebration was nothing significant. After all, the Philippines have its Press Free-dom Week set every month of September. The month of September is significant to Filipino journalists whose freedom of expression and of the press muzzled under the barrel of the guns of Martial Law in 1972. Thus, the Press Freedom Week in the Philippines was declared on September 17, 1972, four days before then President Ferdinand Marcos declared Martial Law on Sept. 21.

The Press Freedom Week in the Philippines was observed way ahead of the World Press Freedom – an offshoot of a seminar in Windhoek, Namibia, in 1991 on Promoting an Independent and Pluralistic African Press.

However, while the Philippine government boosts of having the freest press in Asia, it failed to acknowl-

Press freedom: How many more shall perish in thy name?

edge that the Philippines has the most exploited press in Asia, too. The Philippine government has not also passed legislations that would protect the security of the working press – both from being exploited by publishers and communication moguls.

Extra-judicial killings involving the working press are rampant in the Philippines. The Committee to Protect Journalists listed 72 broadcast and print journalists killed in the Philippines since 1992 to 2012. With the killing of Rommel ‘Jojo’ Palma of Bombo Radyo in Koronadal City on April 30, 2012, the death toll of media people killed in the Philippines during the same period is now 73.

As usual, the government’s immediate reaction to Palma’s killings was ‘condemnation’ and speedy resolu-tion of the case. The CPJ report said that 61 per cent of journalists killed had covered politics while 41 per cent were covering corruption in the government.

The Maguindanao Massacre also known as the ‘Am-patuan Massacre’ was the most heinous crime committed against a group of journalist supposedly on their way to cover an election-related event in Shariff Aguak on Nov. 23, 2009. There were 58 people killed in that car-nage, 32 of them were broadcast and print journalists. Former Maguindanao Gov. Andal Ampatuan, Sr. and his son Andal Ampatuan, Jr. town mayor of Datu Unsay, were among the principal suspects in the Maguindanao infamy. The Ampatuans along with dozen other accused are now facing charges in court. Three years after the ‘massacre,’ the case remains unsettled.

On Monday, Congress will tackle the controversial Freedom of Information bill in the hope that all forms government records be freely available to the public and the working press. The FOI bill offers a shot in the arms on working journalists. However, legislators should work to protect journalists’ working condition, compensation, and decriminalizing libel laws.

WOMAN/PAGE 7

A Proverbs 31 womanThe New

Generation

Alex A. PodadorAlex A. Podador

WOMEN today have such busy lives and great respon-sibilities, yet so many still strive to be the Proverbs 31 women spoken of in the Bible.

What kind of person is the woman spoken of here ? Please read:

A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.

She is like the merchant ship, bringing her food from afar. She gets up while it is

still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings, she plants a vineyard. She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.

She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamb

does not go out at night. In her hand she holds the dis-taff and grasps the spindle with her fingers. She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.

When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet. She makes coverings

for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple. Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.

She makes linen gar-ments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes. She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wis-dom, and faithful instruc-tion is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.

Her children arise and call her blessed; her hus-band also, and he praises

Camiguin’s piece of paradise, once a fi shing village, now offers a fantastic experi-ence... the Mantigue Island Nature Park.

Gleaming with white beaches of powdery corals and surrounded by crystal clear water, the Park is more of an adventure than a sight-seeing experience.

Mantigue Island Nature Park, Camiguin’s restored paradiseIt lies only three kilome-

ters off from barangay San Roque shore in the town of Mahinog.

The 15-minute motor boat ride that gives an added thrill to the visitors and allows a great view of the water corals and surround-ing seaweeds.

Aside from enjoying a great swim, guests may opt to take a walk in its dense

tropical coast forest at the center of the nature park, which is filled with wild grass, wide variety of trees and plants often used as shelter by migratory birds and turtles seeking refuge in the island.

A part of its coast off ers a pristine beach with soft white sand and shallow waters while on the opposite side is a deep drop-off suitable

for diving and snorkeling. Along its underwater cracks, diving enthusiasts will be entertained by a wonder-ful view of sea anemones, stingrays, and variety of tropical fi shes.

If one gets lucky, you might come across sea tur-tles, especially when these head back to the island’s coast to nest and lay their eggs.

The emergence of the

island as an eco-tourism destination is seen to bring benefi cial eff ects on its en-vironment.

SHARON Cuneta would gladly welcome celebrities from other networks on her TV5 talk show “Sha-ron: Kasama Mo, Kapa-tid,” but she would draw the line at Piolo Pascual, the ex-boyfriend of her daughter KC Concepcion, for fear of opening emo-tional wounds that have just healed.

“Kung si KC payagan na mag-guest dito oo, pero kung si Piolo I’d rather not. Kasi sa totoo lang, hindi naman natin kailangan na i-guest,” the megastar told News5 Aksyon.

During the recent me-dia conference for her first show on the Kapa-tid Network, Sharon was quick to point out that she has already forgiven the actor on behalf of KC, “who has moved on from

Sharon would rather not have Piolo as guest on her talk showthe Piolo issue,” she said.

“Nasaktan ako kas i mahal ko si PJ (Piolo’s nickname). I really wel-comed him with open arms. Na-forgive ko na siya,” Sharon said.

She clarified that the so-called network wars will not stop her from inviting artists from ABS-CBN and GMA to appear on her show, which will premiere on Monday.

“Hindi naman artist wars ito. You know, we have made friends. Fel-low artistas [are welcome regardless of network af-filiation],” she said.

“Sharon: Kasama Mo, Kapatid,” the singer-ac-tress’ first project under her bi l l ion-peso f ive-year contract with TV5, is a daily gabfest in the “Oprah” mold.

Her guest list will alter-nate from “regular people with extraordinary stories” to “celebrities who will be here for an in-depth conversation and not just because they have some-thing to promote.”

Sharon has been taping three shows three times a week ahead of the pro-gram’s May 7 debut. The busy schedule has left her with little time for unpro-ductive matters such as the unfortunate Twitter meltdown she had last month.

“I was so affected at maraming nag-react to the things that I said and the things that were said to me on Twitter,” she admitted.

“Some tweets were very hard to swallow kasi. ‘Yung iba never ko pang narinig in all my 46 years in this world. Masakit sobra. And these came from mostly

young people with a false sense of power. Bastusan talaga.”

Sharon surmised that her detractors are “fans ng ibang artista, not just Piolo.”

She recalled that she took particular offense to a tweet that called her and KC “mag-inang aborsyoni-sta” (mother-and-daughter abortionists). “Nasaktan ako bilang nanay kaya ako lumaban,” she said.

“I’m only a human be-ing. I never made it a se-cret na may temper ako,” she added.

Thankfully, the hostili-ties have ended because Sharon herself decided t hat qu ar re l l i ng w it h nameless, faceless enemies is bad for her emotional health.

“It took me a while to deal with it. But I’ve learned to just ignore these things. And, of course, now I’m too busy to tweet,” she said.

Woman...from page 4

her: “Many women do noble things, but you sur-pass them all.” Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

Last May 2, 2012, a woman celebrated her nth birthday with the presence of her own family, parents, friends and some church members.

Who is this woman to her friends? She is the Ate, who is always ready to share her time to ladies where they confide her many things, especially re-lated to women’s emotions.

She is an aspiring evangelist-teacher, a wor-ship leader, and a discipler. She is a generous giver even finds pleasure to have her wallet emptied at times, rather than to fail anybody who comes to her for fi-nancial needs.

This she considers an

investment. Her belief, “Investment in heaven is the wisest investment of all, since interest rates are gained more than the capi-tal, rather than saving in commercial banks, which interests are always low.”

Church is very im-portant to her. She is a faith-ful servant to the ministry, which God had called her for.

She was once the woman, whom a certain man had asked her from God surely just to be his wife. But God did not just gave her his wife, but a housewife in the real sense of the word. A caring mother to her son, Jehoshapat, and another girl on the way; a business woman and a worth dying for marriage partner.

They both loved their

wedding theme song that explains like this, ” When God made her, He (God) must have been thinking about him”.

To her husband, she is a Proverbs 31 woman. A superwoman, whom no man can ask for more.

The. 81st birthday celebra-tion of ESTHER GABOR VELEZ was celebrated the way you can describe her personality. Very outgoing, full of laughter and very fun-loving for a lady her age. .She had the Inner Wheel club members, her Handmaid of the Lord friends, her tennis pals, her classmates and of course her family. The day April 9th, being a holiday, the party started at 3 p.m, It was our sup-
