Minerals When you think of a rock you think what is it made of that would be a mineral. Minerals are used in glasses ,watches, aluminum bats , windows plumbing pipes and many other uses. Minerals are non living solid materials that has a definite chemical makeup. What this means is that each minerals are made up of just one thing. Minerals are naturally occurring substance formed by geological processes. They are usually solid and feature a crystal structure as well as specific physical properties and chemical composition. A mineral is sometimes made up of just one chemical element but, more often it’s a compound of two. The properties of mineral are luster ,streak, hardness, and cleavage. Did you know that there is a mineral that tells the would be a liquid mineral. By: Daniela Ramirez

MineralsWhen you think of a rock you think what is it made

of that would be a mineral. Minerals are used in glasses ,watches, aluminum bats , windows

plumbing pipes and many other uses. Minerals are non living solid materials that has a definite

chemical makeup. What this means is that each minerals are made up of just one thing. Minerals are naturally occurring substance formed by geological

processes. They are usually solid and feature a crystal structure as well as specific physical

properties and chemical composition. A mineral is sometimes made up of just one chemical element

but, more often it’s a compound of two. The properties of mineral are luster ,streak, hardness, and cleavage. Did you know that there is a mineral

IGNIOUS ROCKS form when rocks

melt from deep

below Earths surface

and then it cools

and hardens

IGNIOUS ROCKS

IGNIOUS ROCKS are also known as “Fire Rocks” because when lava comes out the volcano it cools and becomes a IGNIOUS ROCK.

igneous rock (derived from the Latin word gins meaning fire) is one of the three main rock types, the others being sedimentary and metamorphic rock.

Igneous rocks form in three main places: where lithosphere plates pull apart at mid-ocean ridges, where plates come together at seduction zones and where continental crust is pushed together, making it thicker and allowing it to heat to melting.

People commonly think of lava and magma as a liquid, like molten metal, but geologists find that magma is usually a mush — a liquid carrying a load of mineral crystals. Magma crystallizes into a collection of minerals, and some crystallize sooner than others. Not just that, but when they crystallize, they leave the remaining liquid with a changed chemical composition. Thus a body of magma, as it cools, evolves, and as it moves through the crust, interacting with other rocks, it evolves further. This makes igneous petrology a very complex field, and this article is only the barest outline.

There are also over 600 types of Igneous Rocks. They are classified by Minerals found in them.

Rock CycleA rock cycle is a rock that can change

into another rock Magma can turn into a Igneous Rock by cooling it off, and an it can turn into Magma again by melting the rock. It can also turn into a Metamorphic Rock by heat and pressure. Then the Igneous Rock turns into Sediments by weathering an erosion . Then it turns to a Sedimentary Rock by compaction and cementation. It can turn back by weathering an erosion. A Sedimentary Rock turns into a Metamorphic Rock by heat and pressure. A Metamorphic Rock turns into Sediments weathering an erosion. Then the Metamorphic Rock turns into Magma by melting the Metamorphic Rock. And that’s my Rock Cycle.

.Sedimentary Rocks

Sedimentary rocks are formed when sand,

particles of rocks bits of soil, and remains. They

are formed at the bottom of lakes and

oceans.

It can conclude minerals, small pieces of plant and other organic matter.

Sedimentary rocks form layers called strata which can often be seen in exposed cliffs.

Examples of sedimentary rocks include limestone, sandstone, mudstone, clay stone, and flint.

The study of sedimentary rocks and rock strata provides information about the subsurface that is useful for civil engineering, for example in the construction of roads, houses, tunnels, canals or other constructions.

Quartzite rocks

Quartzite is one of the metamorphic rocks . Quartzite is actually formed by quart sandstone. Quartzite actually comes in different shapes and sizes. Some are BIG and some are small. Some of the rocks feel rough and some are soft . Quartzite is one of the rocks that I’m studying and this is my metamorphic rock report.

Some of this rocks are weak but, others are big and strong. Quartzite is not actually as strong as I descrided. Quartzite comes also in different colors.

THE COLORS ARE; RED, PINk or white.
