MINISTRY CATALOG FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Page 2: Ministry catalog

First United Methodist Church is a spiritually vibrant, multi-generational community devoted to transforming the world through Jesus Christ. We value building Christ-centered relationships, celebrating God’s grace through different styles of worship, and deepening our connection to God through study, prayer, and serving others.

WORSHIPCONTEMPORARYOur contemporary services are on Saturday evenings at 5:30pm and Sunday mornings at 10:15am. These provide a welcoming, laid back, come-as-you-are atmosphere. Our goal is to offer relevant Biblically-based teachings, and our praise band provides sincere and heartfelt opportunities to worship Jesus Christ.

TRADITIONALOur traditional service is at 9:00am on Sunday mornings. You can expect hymns accompanied by our New Life Choir and pipe organ, or anthems performed by our handbell choir. These are blended with relevant sermons, multimedia content, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

BAPTISMAre you ready to make a public announcement of your commitment to Christ? Or are you interested in having your infant baptized or dedicated? We would love to share that with you. Please contact us for more information or to schedule a baptism. Contact: Jenny Hutcherson, 793-9760 x231 or [email protected]

“There are different spiritual gifts but the

same Spirit; and there are different ministries

and the same Lord; and there are different

activities but the same God who produces all

of them in everyone.”

MEMBERSHIPNEW MEMBERS CLASS Membership at FUMC requires you to take part in one of our New Member classes, offered four times each year. Led by our pastors, this class is available to everyone who would like to learn about the mission, vision and core values of Springfield First. In a casual and comfortable atmosphere, you will meet others who are new to the church, and have the opportunity to ask questions and to understand the meaning of membership at this church. During our time together, there will be snacks anda meal for us to share. Childcare is available by request. When: Sunday, March 1, at 3:00-7:30pm Where: Atrium 4Contact: Jenny Hutcherson, 793-9760 x231 or [email protected]

GIVINGDemonstrate your devotion to God’s work by using one of the following methods to give:• Give as the offering plates are passed during weekly worship. To receive credit for cash donations, please fill out a pew envelope to enable our Financial Secretary to record your gift. You may also contact the church office to receive printed envelopes.• Enroll in automatic bank transfer. You may want to set up recurring weekly or monthly giving. The amount you choose is automatically withdrawn from your bank account on the date you request each month. Please contact the church office for a simple form to set it up. This is a great option for those who cannot attend weekly as well as those who relocate during the winter months.• Use the Online Banking/Bill Payment service at your bank. You can send a one-time gift or set up a recurring gift on the schedule you prefer. When using this feature, your bank will mail a check to First United Methodist Church on your behalf. This method enables your giving to be consistent, even when your attendance cannot be.• Give through our website (www.springfieldfirst.org/give). You may choose to give by eCheck or debit/credit card, or you can set up recurring payments with this easy-to-use tool.• Giving Kiosk: each weekend we have a kiosk in the Atrium where you can give by debit or credit card.

No matter which of these methods you choose for giving, you will receive periodic statements throughout the year as well as a year-end tax statement. Feel free to contact our Financial Secretary (793-9760 x235) if you have any questions.

Thank you for your support of the mission and ministry of First United Methodist Church. Because of your gifts, we are changing lives here and around the world with Christ’s love.

G6The one-sentence mission statement of FUMC – to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world – leads many people to ask, “What’s a disciple?” Our pastors have identified six characteristics (or “G’s”) that mark the life of a disciple:

Glory (Worshipping God)Grace (Imparting Christ’s love)Growth (Celebrating spiritual disciplines)Group (Doing life together)Giftedness (Serving others)Generosity (Sharing compassionately)

Each week, our G6 class will detail a different “G” and describe what a deeply devoted disciple of Jesus looks like. When: Mondays at 6:30-8:00pm, April 13 to May 18Where: Atrium 2/3Contact: Sharon Sweeney, 793-9760 x131 or [email protected]
