JANUARY CELEBRATIONS
MARRIED COUPLES MINISTRY
The Married Couples Ministry roll out is Sunday, January 21st, 5 minutes after morning worship service.
COMMITTEE FOR PEOPLE WHO
ARE HOMELESS MINISTRY
The Committee for People who are Homeless is recruiting new members to support this great effort. Our Committee will meet Sunday, January 28th, in the library after morning worship service to share our calendar for 2018. Please attend.
Throughout the month of January, the Committee for People who are Homeless is collecting blankets for people who are homeless in the Austin community. As we prepare for the harshest months of winter, people without housing are in need of blankets to accommodate them in protection from the cold and extreme elements. It is estimated that there are over 2,197 homeless individuals in Austin/Travis County on any given night.
HEALTH AWARENESS MINISTRY
I’m sure everyone is aware of the severity of the flu season this year. Please know that it is NOT too late to get the flu shot. Please stay home if you are sick and notify your physician if you suspect you have the flu. Your doctor may prescribe an antiviral medication, which makes the illness milder and may shorten the time you are ill. Frequently wash your hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water is not available. Limit contact with others when you are sick and stay home 24 hours after your fever is gone.

Because several members at East Side have expressed interest in donating funds to assist Sis. Joyce Felix, here is the information she provided: My daughter’s brain stopped functioning on May 30, 2017. She has to relearn to walk and talk. As a realtor, she was fired because she can’t walk or talk well. Her hospital and doctors’ bills are mounting up and she still needs a spinal tap and brain tests to get a specialist, as she has not been diagnosed yet since none of the neurologists know what’s wrong with her. Since she’s a veteran, she can’t see one of the two known specialists in the Austin area, as she has to go to the veteran medical facilities. The gofundme account is asking for assistance from individuals to donate money to assist in paying for it all and to see the specialists outside the veteran network. The link to her page is below.

Note: This is strictly voluntary if you would like to help the Felix family. This is not a church-sponsored effort, so please see Sis. Felix with questions or if you would like to offer support.

THE BEST MEMORY SYSTEM
Forget each kindness that you do as soon as you have done it; Forget the praise that falls to you the moment you have won it; Forget the slander that you hear before you repeat it; Forget each slight, each spite, each sneer, wherever you may meet it.
Remember every kindness done to you, whate’er its measure; Remember the praise by others won, and pass it on with pleasure; Remember every promise made and keep it to the letter; Remember those who lend you aid and be a grateful debtor;
Remember all the happiness that comes your way in living; Forget each worry and distress, be hopeful and forgiving; Remember good, remember truth, remember heaven’s above you, And you’ll find, through age and youth, that many hearts will love you. Ephesians 4:31–32 “Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one other, even as God in Christ forgave you.”
