the conference took place from 27th to 29th of may 2015 at the Palais des Congrès, Yaoundé, with the main theme: “Developing Central Africa’s Sustainable Mining Sector”. under the high Patronage of the Head of State, His Excellency Paul biya, President of the Republic of Cameroon, the conference was co-organised by the Cameroonian government and aME trade from london, and the support of different sponsors.

During these three days, several topics were discussed in the different sessions including: the Cameroonian mining potential, investment and funding opportunities in the mining sector, sustainable development, legal and fiscal framework.

M. Dan Coberman, Director of aME trade ltd, greeted the participants and thanked the Cameroonian government for the trust it had placed once again in his company.

the Opening Ceremony, chaired by Dr. fuH Calistus gentry, Secretary of State to the Minister of Industry, Mines and technological Development, representing personally the Minister, was held in the presence of the main stakeholders involved in CIMEC 2015 which are: the mining and exploration, producing and processing companies, rocks and minerals analytical laboratories, surveys, equipments and logistic companies in the mining industry, law firms, experts in law, finance and studies, as well as training structures in the fields of mining.

the general aim of the conference was to stimulate, encourage and promote the setting-up of these related structures, whose objectives is to significantly reduce their burdens in terms of time, energy and resources for the benefit of all operators in the mining industry sector.

in a specific way, CimeC 2015 aims:

in the short term:

• to encourage the mining industries and related activities (survey and drilling companies, analytical laboratories, consulting firms, etc.) with proven experience, to set up their business in Cameroon to develop local and sub-region deposits

• highlight the mining projects which will soon go into production

• contribute to the promotion and enhancing the mining sector especially in Cameroon and in the CemaC zone in general, in order to help and support growth economic policies, anti-poverty strategy, reduce unemployment, improve the living conditions of rural communities.

in the mid-term:

Set Cameroon up as a meeting, exchange of experiences, promotion and trading platform for the region with the stakeholders of the mining industry and african associated activities and the rest of the world, of the same level as InDaBa in South africa, or PDaC in toronto, Canada. In other words, CIMEC 2015 should contribute to:

• depict the potential of the rich and varied mining sector in Cameroon, in order to attract increased foreign direct investments in this sector now chosen as one of the priorities to support national economic recovery

• draw interest from mining related industries, including laboratories, survey end drilling companies to come to Cameroon

• To make Cameroon a new destination in the mining industry in africa and a lasting sub-regional networking and trading platform for the mining sector

3. promote vocational training policy and capacity building;

4. enhance public debate on mining projects development (forum, roundtables, b2b meetings, etc.);

5. continue to organise the artisanal mining activity in order to move it towards the formal sector and improve the living standards of local populations;

6. further examine the compatibility of the artisanal mining activity with the sustainable development

7. maintain the status of EItI Compliant country and as a KPCS member for more transparency in the extractive industries;

8. organise the next edition of CIMEC in 2017;

9. initiate a process of reflection on the evolution of CimeC from a conference to an exhibition and a place for diverse transactions between the potential investors of the mining sector make Cameroon, in the near future, a mining transaction centre in Central and west africa.

the closing ceremony was chaired by Dr. fuH Calistus gentry, Secretary of State to the Minister of Industry, mines and Technological development, representing personally the minister. He thanked the participants for their varied contributions and reminded the overall purpose of the Conference namely:
