There will be 2 categories to compete in: with horses and horseless. You can compete in one or both areas. Each week on Monday a new class will be open for you to compete in. A local expert who has experience and knowledge in the given class will demonstrate how the class should be completed. Then you will have until the following Sunday to practice and post a video of you riding in the class. The local expert will then judge each 4-Hers performance and will award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placing in each category. It’s understood that many do not have access to an area to ride in. Be creative in choosing the safest location possible to ride your horse. Some options are driveway, a spot in the pasture or a dirt road. All 4-H riding requirements must be followed to compete. Cloverbuds- (youth in grades K-2) will be eligible to compete in Showmanship, Western Pleasure, and Barrels, using lead line. Horseless horse riders – are open to all youth and can decide what you are going to use for your horse or are you going to be the horse? The decision is yours. Participants will need:

As with the previous cancellations, this applies to all in-person Extension-led events, including those conducted by volunteers. It aligns with university travel restrictions. I have convened workgroups to build contingency plans for fairs, animal science, and other summer programs. As soon as these plans are ready, we will share them with you. 4-H educators are hard at work creating meaningful learning and leading experiences young people can access from their homes. And many 4-H volunteers are connecting with youth from their clubs, teams and project groups to encourage and support them. Here is just a sample of our upcoming events:

• Meet a NASA engineer

• Explore agronomy • Make a global connection • Be a true leader in service

New opportunities are being developed all the time and we welcome your feedback and ideas. Please connect with an educator in your community to learn more. Virtual learning will apply to the bonus trip program: State Fair livestock and State Horse Show bonus trip application deadline extended to July 1 The State fair livestock and State Horse Show bonus trip application deadline has been extended to July 1. Bonus trips to the Minnesota State Fair and State Horse Show recognize excellent local youth development programs. As a way to continue the great educational programming that happens in our counties during the COVID-19 restrictions, please consider hosting virtual learning environments as a method of working with youth in livestock and horse education. All virtual learning environments that are county planned, presented, and documented will be considered for the bonus trip program. What can you do? Invite a nutritionist to an online meeting for 4-H members to learn more about feeds and feeding of animals, explore marketing options for market livestock, host an online showmanship workshop, host a livestock evaluation clinic online and use evaluation videos for the youth to judge. The opportunities are endless - be creative and have fun! Work with your local Extension educator and your PDCs to get online education for your county’s 4-H members going now and submit for extra trips to the Minnesota State Fair 4-H livestock shows and the State Horse Show in the bonus trip program! What's growing? Here is a challenge for all 4-H members! We want you to get up, get outside and see what’s growing! Now is a great time to plant something or observe plants while they grow.

While you’re at it - try out some scientific experiments!

• You might want to see how light affects plant growth.

• Experiment with different types of fertilizer or water on certain plants and document what happens.

• You could also see how grass does with and without sun or how different types of turf grass can work on different parts of your yard.

• Or, observe a field and watch the different stages of crop growth.

Share your learning in a variety of ways

• You could create a video showing what you learned with science strategies.

• You might prepare an exhibit for a fair or to use in class.

We hope you think about and accept this challenge! Market chickens and market turkeys Included in 2020 Purple Ribbon Auction!
