    EC1049 - MINOR PROJECT

    The minor project report is mandatory and strictly adheres to the guidelines given below. Thestudent should prepare this report in consultation and guidance from the Minor project guide. Kindlysubmit your report before the deadline.

    STRUCTURING YOUR REPORT

    Below is a template for the minor project report, in the form of an outline with recommended headlines.Under each headline is an explanation of what the corresponding section of your report should contain.

    Abstract

    An informative abstract of no more than 250 words. This should state the aim or aims of the project.Being an informative abstract, it should contain sufficient information about the outcome andconclusions of the work as to allow the knowledgeable reader to judge the significance of the work.

    Introduction

    The Introduction should provide a brief description of the application addressed in the minor projectand of the particular issue(s) to be investigated. This report should be written so that it is accessible toother readers than the teacher.

    It is allowed to base the introduction on the minor project description you got from the teacher.In that case, it is important that you reformulate the description so that is becomes shorter and isexpressed in your own words. However, the description must not be so short that it requires access to theoriginal document to be understandable.

    Methodology/Approach

    This section should summarizes your approach to the problem. You should give explanation on

    Block diagram of the system, Hardware description, Execution algorithm/flowchart, circuit operation,etc. It is recommended that the “Methodology/Approach” section may have one or more subsection foreach part of the project.

    You should give arguments why these algorithms are appropriate in this context. In this sectionyou may also show pseudo code or extracts of Matlab code, if required. However, the complete programtext should not be inserted here, but in an Appendix. The Execution results of the system for various testcondition/test cases have to be discussed and give arguments for their correctness.

    Conclusion

    This section should bring together the strands of your work, commenting on what has beendiscovered and what future work has been identified, including possible ways of overcoming limitationsyou have identified.

    It is difficult to set a good level of detail for both the introduction and the conclusion. Somepeople feel that it should only be necessary to read the introduction and conclusion of a technical reportto get an understanding of the work. Then it is only necessary to read the middle chapters should youneed to know a lot of detail about the work.

    References

    Here you should include a list of the literature that you cite in the report. The ordering of entries and theform of entries must follow some authority. Students may choose to follow well-known citationstandards (e.g. IEEE).

    1. Author Name, Title of Paper/ Book, Publisher’s Name, Year of publication2. Authors, year, title of paper, journal, volume, issue, and page numbers.

    3. Authors, Month & Year, Title of Paper, Conference, place, and page numbers.4. Full URL Address

    Appendix

    Material that supports the report, but that does not fit in the main text should be placed here. Morecommonly any significant code should be included on a CD attached to the report. If a significantamount of your work has taken the form of a program, you should, additionally, provide instructions onhow to run it. You should then include brief details of what you have made available and where it islocated in an appendix.

    Photograph

    Include at least two photographs of the prototype/working model of the minor project along with theproject team members in the last page of the report. Write appropriate comments for each photographattached.

    Minor Project Report in CD

    Attach one CD which should contain a copy a minor project report in word format and also include yourReview 2 and Review 3 PPT in the CD for evaluation and future references.

    PRODUCING YOUR REPORT

    Reports must be in a word processed or printed form. There is no requirement to use a particular wordprocessing or document preparation system. In choosing a system, you should discuss with yoursupervisor the suitability of the system you propose to use and the need to develop skills in usingunfamiliar document preparation software. Hand-written reports are unacceptable. Below are theguidelines for structuring and formatting of the project report.

    1. Chapter Names - 14 TIMES NEW ROMAN (bold); all caps

    2. Headings - 14 TIMES NEW ROMAN (bold); all caps

    3. Sub-headings - 12 TIMES NEW ROMAN (bold); Title case

    4. Sub – sub headings - 12 TIMES NEW ROMAN (bold); Title case; italic

    5. Body of Project - 12 TIMES NEW ROMAN

    6. Text in Diagrams - 12 TIMES NEW ROMAN (all lower case)

    7. Diagrams / Table headings / Fig. Headings - 12’ TIMES NEW ROMAN; Title case; italic

    Spacing

    1. Two (2) line spacing between heading and body text.2. 1.5 line spacing in body text.3. New paragraphs start with single tab.

    Margins

    Left 1.5’ Right 1.0’

    Page numbers

    Position: Bottom, Middle

    1. Front Pages: Small Roman Numbers (Excluding title page, Certificate page, Acknowledgementpage)

    A concise and factual abstract of not more than one page of font 12, one and half line spacing should

    cover the following points

    The abstract should state briefly the purpose and objective of the minor project also provide

    adequate background information by avoiding a detailed literature survey.

    CHAPTER-1

    INTRODUCTION

    Indoor air is the air that we breathe in indoor environments such as at homes, offices,

    hospitals etc. Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is the term describing the air quality of a building;

    especially it refers to the health and comfort of building occupants. It refers to the nature of the

    conditioned air that circulates throughout space/area, where we work and live in. People spend

    most 90% of their time indoors where they are exposed to far greater air pollution risks than at the

    outdoors. IAQ can be affected by microbial contaminants, gaseous pollutants (including carbon

    monoxide, carbon dioxide, volatile organic compounds etc) and dust particles or aerosols. These

    pollutants can induce adverse health effects to building occupants. To avoid such adverse effects,an air quality monitoring system is utmost required. Indoor air quality monitoring is an essential

    part of built environment control systems to ensure the indoor environment is in an acceptable

    condition for living.

    1.1 Why do we monitor indoor air quality?

    Indoor air pollution originates from many sources like combustion, biological contaminants,

    household products, pesticides, environmental tobacco smoke and many more. These can cause

    health impacts like lung cancer, allergies and asthmas, pneumonia, impairment of human

    respiration and even death due to prolonged exposure. Indoor air pollution is one of the top 10

    deaths, disease risk factors in India.

    CHAPTER-2

    APPROACH

    2,.1 Proposed work

    A sensor circuit is used to monitor the gases in the indoor air. The microcontroller contains

    an ADC which converts the voltage output of the sensor circuit at appropriate time.

    3.2 Block Diagram of IAQ Management

    Basically, there are four main modules which include a control module that controls the

    communication of data and control over the channels, a microcontroller which is programmed to

    monitor the gas concentration and do necessary action, a sensor module which consists of all the

    sensors and a power module to provide the required power.

    CONCLUSION

    The aim of the project to monitor the concentration of gaseous pollutants in the indoor

    environment has been successfully accomplished for carbon monoxide gas. It is seen that the

    concentration of CO in air increases drastically even with a small amount of the gas in air. So

    considerations have to be taken to eliminate such pollutants so as to lead a healthy life.
