Our ‘NEW’ Email address for all contacts is: [email protected] Minster Matters Issue Number 71, June 2006 Twinning Association Anniversary, Sunday 14 May This year, Minster hosted the anniversary celebration and it was a great success! The French coach due to arrive around 12 midday actually turned up around 10am and loads of our French twinners were spotted roaming round the village! Eventually, all were gathered at the Pavilion on the recreation ground and coffee, tea, biscuits and a suitable amount of wine were consumed before a challenge horse racing event was run with Minster just making first place in the final. There were a few teenagers in the group and they entertained themselves on our skateboard park which they thought was superb and also had a knock around football game with some Minster lads. Then it was off to the Royal British Legion Club for the reception dinner and speeches. And what a magnificent 4-course spread there was! Many thanks to Jacqui Cooper and her staff; the food was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone, with many returning to the table several times! Afterwards, came the speeches and exchange of gifts. Our Chairman presented a marvelous wall hanging of the Minster crest and was in turn presented with a superb basket containing wine and French Fayre. Fortunately the speeches did not take too long and everyone was then able to settle down to some serious relaxing and a few beverages to help with the language difficulty – its amazing how one’s language skills improve as the day progresses! The younger element went back to the skatepark and the afternoon went pretty swiftly until it was time for the French to depart for the boat. A great time was had by everyone - even the weather was good to us!- who enjoyed doing something slightly different, as well as fostering further relationships for the Twinning. The main photograph shows Twinning Chairman Bob Grove, and Lindsay Thacker, who made the Minster crest wall hanging, with Helene Deleplace and Raymond Drieux, who was representing the Mayor of Armbouts Cappel. The other two show some of the more energetic activities that went on, in between the socialising activities! There are Changes Afoot! Minster Matters is published every month- except January- and first appeared in February 2000. This first issue was just 8 pages, we are now at 24! We now have an enthusiastic and hard working ‘Editorial’ team to make sure that MM continues to appear. But with Julie and Kelvin planning to move away from the area there are some new arrangements: Articles/Stories/Events: There is now a single email address for all articles for publication see below. Please use this new one and not individual addresses as before. There will also be an additional collec- tion point for hard copy in the Gossip Shop cafe as well as in the Library. Please don’t use the Way Hill address anymore, as there wont be anybody there! You can of course phone any of the editors about articles, we are always keen to hear of ‘goings on’ in the village. Adverts for community or charity events should be sent to the email address shown below or left with the Library/Gossip Shop. Commercial Adverts: for new and continuing adverts, please contact Ray Owen on 822322, or email to address below Accounts: for advert payments please contact Rodney Rose on 821965 or email to address below Distribution: Please contact either Ray Owen (822322) or Eve Tilbee (821545) Minster Matters is well received by everyone, and the team take great satisfaction in the service and pleasure it brings to residents. Even the Thanet Gazette acknowledged us when they printed an article about the excavations in the church! Copies go all over the world, keeping past residents in touch with Minster. We have a waiting list of adver- tisers and some have been with the newsletter since it started. But like all ‘good’ things, it doesn't just happen and there is a lot of hard work - and late nights close to the printing deadline!- done by the volunteer editors (no we don’t get paid!). There are two things that residents can do to help with the production of the newsletter: * If you have a story/comment/issue/event/sporting success/something to celebrate/moan about etc, that you would like to share with villagers, let us know! We can’t report anything that we don’t know about!. Articles in ‘word’ format helps, but hand written is fine too. * If you would like to be more involved, please contact one of the editors, new help is always welcome!

EditorialTimes change and the we think that the new arrangements for

Minster Matters will improve the service for the village. There may be some teething troubles and if something doesn’t work as well as it should, please bear with us but also let us know. We can fix it!

Change - and new faces - also provides the opportunity to bring new ideas and energy into ‘old’ groups. The Twinning Association had a good day with the residents of Armbouts Cappel, and the Flower Show has new ideas for this year. Both have benefited from some ‘new blood’, while the Playhouse saw the birth of a new star! As the Chairman of the Council remarked at the Parish Assembly, we are fortunate to have so many active and successful organisations in Min-ster. They need your involvement and support to keep them going.

All Weather playing Surface funding Approved. Gerry Glover, MATCH Project Manager

The all-weather pitch is a third generation artificial surface, three-quarter size (roughly 75m x 45m), similar to those used by Premiership Football Clubs. It will be fully fenced and floodlit, and available for use from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. Although it will be used mainly for football, it can be used for other sports, including tennis, cricket and basketball/netball. It will be built on the extension to the recreation ground, in between the Wheels Park and the bowling green.

The facility will be owned and managed by the Parish Council, and all requests for usage and bookings should be made through the Parish Council office. We are in the process of going to tender, and we expect to appoint a contractor sometime in June. It will be built over the summer period.

A great deal of hard work has gone into this particular project over the past five years, and we should thank all those involved - the MATCH Sports and Leisure working group, many Minster residents, Minster FC, Minster Parish Council and the MATCH board. It would not have been possible without partnership funding from SEEDA, KCC, MPC and Minster Primary School, as well as an award of £216,325 from the Football Foundation. We should also thank our MP, Steve Ladyman, who gave us the introduction to the Football Foundation and who has supported us every step of the way. We will give you regular updates through Minster Matters.

The photo shows David Fuller (Council Chairman), Colin Holden (Minster

FC), Gerry Glover (MATCH Project Manager, Bob Grove (Council Vice chairman) and Kelvin Holdom (Chair of School Governors).

Minster PlayhouseCongratulations to all who performed and staged the excel-

lent production last week, ‘There Goes the Bride’. While you need an excellent script to provide laughs from start to finish you also need excellent performers. That’s what Minster Playhouse has in abundance, from those with experience to those new to the boards.

Well done to all, Minster is very lucky to have such a talented group in the village.

If you missed the production, catch it at the Theatre Royal in Margate on Friday, June 23rd, 7.45pm. Tickets from the Box office 0845 130 1786 (£7.50) or on the door (£8.50)

There goes another success for Minster Playhouse.Despite Thanet District Council running away with the Minster Play-

house banner the play went on and was one of the most successful and enjoyable performances ever. Hundreds of people locally and from further afield attended and were genuinely surprised and delighted by the calibre of the ‘There goes the Bride’ production.

As the audience left all that could be heard were voices praising the acting, scenery, costumes and directing.

For anyone not fortunate enough to catch a performance all is not lost. There is one more chance to see this funny, fast, delightfully presented production.

‘There goes the Bride’ performed by the Minster Playhouse and directed by Scott Steele is being performed at the Margate Theatre Royal on the evening of Friday 23rd June. Bookings taken on Thanet box office 293877.

This is one of the most positively talked about productions in Thanet and a real must for theatre goers. Enjoy.

Minster Badminton Club Trophy Nights (Martin Savage, Chairman).

At the North Foreland Badminton Association Annual General Meet-ing Minster Badminton Club picked up 3 awards. Club Chairman Martin Savage collected the shield for winning Mens Division 3, and Eric James picked up the trophy for winning the Composite league Division 2. In addition to the Club’s league suc-cesses Alistair Mannings was pre-sented with the North Foreland League ‘Young Player’ award for his excellent playing ability and his ex-emplary behaviour on court. Alistair received £60 from the league that he intends to spend on a new bag, despite coming under pressure from club members to invest it in a celebratory round of drinks!!

At the Club’s end of season tournament there were some ex-cellent performances with Carol Carpenter and Theresa Oakes emerging as winners of the Ladies Doubles, Martin Savage and Rob Venn overcoming a single-serve handicap to narrowly win the Mens’ doubles and Martin Savage and Theresa Oakes winning the Mixed Doubles event following an injury to Diana Thomas.

Martin Savage presented trophies to the winners at an end of season dinner held at the Bell Inn. The photo-graphs show Martin, Alistair and Eric with their North Foreland trophies, Theresa and Carol, Ladies winners, and Rob and Martin, Mens winners with Penny Day, Club Secretary.

The club is always keen to attract new members and is looking to build on this season’s success. Anyone in-terested in joining should contact Martin Savage 01843 823402 or Carol Carpenter 01843 822176.

Millers Amateur Dramatic Society Presents

MADS About MusicAt Minster Village Hall

On Saturday June 3rd at 7.30pm“MADS About Music” is the latest show by Millers Amateur Dramatic

Society. The well established local group is making a triumphant return to Minster Village Hall, where last year they packed them in at their show, “Ooh, I Know That One!”. MADS have a reputation for being innovative as well as producing shows which people can enjoy and be involved in. In January this year, MADS took a full production of their pantomime, Cinderella, to Germany! They played to three full houses of German children and mums and dads and were so successful that they’ve been invited back next year! Who says the Germans don’t have a sense of humour? Oh yes they do, Oh no....

“MADS About Music” will be a fast moving showcase of pop and rock standards including music from several decades. From “Great Balls of Fire” to “Angels” and from “Keep on Running” to “I’m Like A Bird” - there will be chorus songs, power ballads and love duets but what all the songs will have in com-mon is they are well known. Sing-ing along, clapping and even dancing in the aisles is encouraged and welcomed by this fun local group of talented amateurs.

Tickets are available in advance through MADS Box Office on Thanet 221028 or on the door at £5 (£4 for Concessions). Group discounts are available and you should contact the Box Office if you have 10 or more in your party.

A few words from a member of MADS - Sonia KingI have worked in Tadpoles Pre-school, Minster, for about 10 years. I used to

live in Minster, but now live in Westgate. I went to school in Margate with quite a few of the cast, that is how I came to be in it:- I did a friend a favour and stood in for a belly dancer who became pregnant!! That was about two years ago now. The director Rod Dexter and his wife Caroline come from Whitstable and religiously commute every Sunday to Margate where we rehearse. He is also the lead male vocal. He has copious amounts of enthusiasm which he aspires to inject into all of us!! Other members are all local to Thanet and are as follows: Angela, Sally, Amy, Kirsty, Toni, Judi, Terry, Claire, Viv, Julie, Denise, Danielle, Heather, Jody and Kelly.

We hope that anyone who comes to our shows goes home feeling they have had a fun and worthwhile evening out.Flowers for all Occasions

Flower Show 2006 Kicks Off.On Saturday, May 6th, the Flower Show launched this years

schedule for the Exhibition tent and distributed potted plants for ‘Grow for the Show’ for the children. The photograph shows Caroline, Dominique, and Tracey from the Show Committee and some children with a new job on their hands - to look after the plants until Flower Show day - July 22nd!

As well as the usual attractions and events, this year there will be a cycle/BMX display by local youngsters. Look out for more information in future issues of Minster Matters.

Royal British legion - Minster & Monkton Branch (John Lynch, Chairman)

You are all cordially invited to attend the Dedication Service for our new Branch Standard at 11.30am, on Sunday 2nd July, following the Sunday service at St. Mary’s church. Would ex-servicemen and women please come ‘booted and spurred’. The old standard is not being laid up, rather both the new and the old will continue to be used. After the dedication we will process both standards from the church and the RBL Club.

On 21st April we attended a dinner and ball to commemorate the 80th birthday of H.M the Queen.

About 2 weeks ago we attended a ceremony at Escelberg to celebrate the award of the Legion d’Honeur to one of our French colleagues in the French Parachute Veterans Association. It was the first outing for our new standard. As part of the day’s proceedings we laid a wreath on the local War Memorial in remembrance of our dead and presented the LH recipient with commemorative pennants on behalf of the Branch and the UK Parachute Veterans. We also managed to pop into the boot fair at Armbouts Cappel

Many people use ‘Branch’ and ‘Club’ as inter-changeable terms when they mention the RBL. That being the case and although we are a distinct organisation, a big ‘thank you’ to the Club staff for the successful multi-course buffet they provided for nearly 100 people when the Armbouts and Minster Twinning associations held their combined Anniversary celebrations in Minster.

Annual Parish Assembly. The Parish Assembly was held on April 25th, at which 9 members of the

public attended. The Chairman, Mr David Fuller, reported that during the year, the Clerk, Mr Ray Owen had resigned due to ill health, and the council wished him well. Mrs Kyla Lamb had now been appointed as Clerk, and was making an excellent start to a demanding job. He thanked Eddie Gibbon for providing valuable assistance prior to Kyla’s appointment and to Phil Sackett for initial support for the new Clerk.

Councillor Mrs Joyce Glover had resigned and two new Councillors, Andrew Local and Colin Holden had been co-opted and were making a substantial contribution to council affairs. He also thanked Councillor Kelvin Holdom for his contribution over more than 10 years, pending his likely move to the west country.

Of the many achievements and successes in the village, through the Council, MATCH or jointly, the Chairman commented on the installation of CCTV at the commercial and Conservation areas of the village, a Youth shelter through a grant secured by the Community Warden, the pavement from the New Inn to Ben’s, new frontage outside the Bakers/Gossip Shop and the likely approval for an All Weather Playing Surface on the Recreation ground. The new Salvation Army Community Hall had been a significant achievement, and was providing excel-lent facilities for both young and old alike. He also praised everyone at the Museum for being able to open again for the coming season and the many other successful organisations, who were a credit to the village.

This year’s precept - the rate that the District Council raises from residents on behalf of the Parish Council - had been kept to a 2.5% increase. Maintenance of verge and shrub areas had been brought in-house to give better organisation of the work.

The first application for the development of the H2B site – off Monkton Road - had been completely rejected by the Parish Council, whose position was supported by TDC officers. The new owners of the development company had withdrawn the application for the present.

Questions from the public focused on issues of traffic and pedestrian safety, and ranged from upgrading the pavement from the Village Hall to the Doctors

surgery entrance, (KCC are looking into possible options), the hazards of cars and lorries exiting from Somerfields into the fast traffic coming off the Pros-pect roundabout (the Parish Council have notified KCC of the dangers), and whether the Parish Council could impose fines for improper parking in the village (only by introducing parking restrictions and employing our own warden. The fines are unlikely to cover the cost).Munro Garden Maintenance

Swallows, Martins and SwiftsStrange as it may seem, a large number of people do not distinguish

between swallows, martins and swifts. These birds, although possessing considerable resemblances in their structure and flight, are quite easily dis-tinguished. The swifts are completely black, they are the largest of these species, and in flight the curve of their wings form the arc of a circle. The swallow has a blue back, and chestnut and blue breast bands, and long tail-streamers. The house-martin has a white rump and under parts, and a short tail. The sand-martin is a smaller bird than the house-martin and is brown above and white below. All these birds are often loosely grouped together as swallows, but with very little discrimination they can easily be told apart. In the spring we all look eagerly for the coming of the first “Swallow”, which is usually a house-martin. (taken from Enigmas of Natu-ral History )

Minster Day Nursery & Out of School Club From Chair of Management Committee: Karen KondoTuesday 27th June AGM: please support your nursery and out of school club.

As you will recall when the nursery became a charitable trust last year a management committee was formed. Since then the committee has been working to support the nursery in various activities; securing the lease with KCC, establishing charitable status, building repairs and improvements and developing HR policies and procedures. The nursery will be holding its AGM on Tuesday 27th June at 6.30pm in Minster School Hall (attendance from all parents is requested to meet the constitution requirements). A new committee will need to be formed. Could you spare the time to be actively involved in your child’s nursery? Full details will be sent out to all parents in the first week of June. We look forward to seeing as many parents as possible at the AGM, it should be an enjoyable event, a great opportunity to see and hear more about the nursery and also the chance to win some really terrific prizes in the raffle: wine, Chinese meals, hairdressing vouchers, vets vouchers, unique gifts and more. We would like to say a big thank you to the local businesses in the village who have generously donated prizes.

Congratulations to Len Cooper and Sylvia Pritchard

Minster resident Len became the Margate Indoor Bowls Club Champion, at the Thanet Indoor Bowls Centre, also Sylvia became the Kentish Ladies Indoor Bowls Club Champion at the same venue. Both Sylvia and Len are members of Minster Bowls Club.

Officers of Minster and Monkton Royal British Legion Women's Section would like to say

Congratulations to Minster and Monkton Royal British Legion Women’s section, on being awarded 2nd place in the Chairman's Cup for most new members under 40, and 2nd place in the Sir Brunel Cohen Cup for largest donations to the woman's section schemes. This is nationally, so well done everyone your hard work really did pay off.

MINSTER takes part in the SOUTH EAST’S BIGGEST WALKING BUS EVENT, 20th May 2006

On a wet and blustery Saturday morning a sea of yellow tabards gathered in Canterbury’s Longmarket area to take part in the big-gest Walking Bus event ever! Everybody’s aim to smash last year’s record of attendance of 225 children. Walking Bus Schemes all over Kent, as far as Dover, had attended. Before the procession began adults and children were given a raffle ticket each for the chance to win some brilliant prizes including a trip to Disneyland, Paris. At 10.30am we were finally on our way, walking through the pedes-trianised city centre, accompanied by VIPs and stilt walkers, up the High Street to Fenwicks, through the new Whitefriars shopping area, Marlowe Arcade and then along St Margaret’s Street reaching our destination, for the first time in this event’s history, at the Precincts of Canterbury Cathedral. On arrival at the Cathedral the Walking Bus was greeted by the Sheriff of Canterbury and dignitaries including the Cathedral’s Vice Dean. After drawing the raffles, the announcement we had all been waiting for was made - we had officially bro-ken the record! - smashing the previous record of 2005 with an astounding 239 children attending. Along with this great news came the figures that in a year the Walking Bus Schemes had managed to save 30,000 car journeys, saving 43 tonnes of CO2 gases polluting our atmosphere. Even the weather couldn’t dampen our spirits - to celebrate this momentous occasion everybody was treated to refresh-ments, pizza from Pizza Hut, fruit from Asda and chocolate from Thorntons.

History of Minster’s Walking Bus By Brian PortanierMinster Walking Bus will be celebrating it’s 8th anniversary in January 2007 - This is how it all began:-The Minster Walking Bus was conceived during the latter part of 1998, following suggestions of the schools PFA to cut down on the

number of parents taking and collecting their children to school by car. The PFA recognised that traffic congestion was going to worsen with the village attracting more families and new houses being built.

The concept of the walking bus had been seen on television and the St Albans blueprint was taken up. We started the Minster Walking Bus in January 1999 with the full co-operation of the Head teacher, teaching staff and the school’s health committee. We invited parents to take part in volunteering to walk the children to school morning and afternoons, on a rota system.

We planned the route and ‘bus stops’ according to the number of volunteers available. After finalising the route to avoid using the main roads as much as possible, the route was put forward to the KCC highways road safety officers.

We started out with 15 -20 children using the bus and today we take on average 36 children each day. We estimate a saving of approximately 22 cars not being used taking children to school. However, there is room for improvement and many new children are using our bus, as we promote the Minster Walking Bus through the school, and local newspapers. The Minster Walking Bus is a resounding success and we proudly boast of it being the first of its kind in Kent.

We are growing! Due to great interest and popular demand we have now expanded to two walking bus routes: ‘Tothill Street’ and ‘St Mildred’s Road (which incorporates a breakfast club from 7.30am and an afternoon club at 3.30pm). Again this has been growing on the back of a successful formula and the dedication of volunteer parents who give their time freely to the good of their community. If we can generate enough ‘walkers’ and volunteers from the Monkton Road area, the Walking Bus would like to undertake a third route beginning at Prospect Road with ‘bus’ stops at Edgar Road, Freemans Road/British Legion and Monkton Road. So if you are interested in joining any of the routes or need more information, please contact the school on 01843 821384 or the Co-ordinator Brian Portanier Tel: 01843 822975.

According to several studies undertaken recently, children who walk to school produce better results in class as opposed to pupils who travel in by car! Also, walking to school keeps our youngsters fitter and more active.

Minster CEP School Travel PlanWith more and more houses being built in and around Minster, population within our small village is ever expanding,

creating more traffic than our rural lanes can handle. The majority of residents and car users cannot help but notice that at peak times, traffic congestion can cause problems not to mention a huge nuisance.

Minster School have devised a Travel Plan aiming to cut down traffic congestion during school drop-off and pick-up times. The plan has been coordinated by Mrs Pat Hodges, year 4 teacher at the school with the help of the schools Eco Committee and outside agencies. The team identified some of the problems and then came up with ideas to encourage parents not to use their car if possible. The Walking Bus is one, long running solution and with a great team of volunteers, safe routes to walk and fresh air to breath in, why not join your children in the walk too! If you live outside the village and have no option but to take the car, there are proposed dropping off points at the High Street Car Park, and the top of Tothill Street. Contact Brian Portanier or the school. Its probably quicker to park away from the school and walk in than to drive up to the gate and out again! Using Kings Steps and Molineux Road as a walkway instead of St. Mildred’s road, which has no footpath and a lot of school traffic, is also being looked at.

Measures have been taken to ensure the safety of pedestrians with ‘Lollipop Pat’ providing a safe crossing over Monkton Road before and after school. Our Community Warden, Steve, is also on hand, unless he’s called away. Steve is also looking into car sharing for parents outside the village.

Once getting through the traffic congestion, car users are then faced with another dilemma, ‘where to park?’. Due to the narrow roads that surround the school this can prove to be difficult. Parking bumper to bumper and on kerbs not only creates hazardous conditions for our young children to cross the roads, it also creates less room for moving vehicles. With parents and children waiting outside the school gates in close proximity to this problem, Minster School have put forward a proposal for ‘a safe haven’ where parents and children can wait, away from the busy road, until school opens. Plans have been approved for a shelter to be built just inside the school gates with disabled access which should resolve the overcrowded pavements.

Minster School are doing all they can to alleviate the school traffic congestion but without the willingness of parents to change their commuting habits it will always be a problem.

‘Lollipop Pat’ and Community Warden Steve Taylor

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!Like to take an early morning or afternoon walk?Need more exercise? Willing to help the community? Then the Walking Bus could be your answer. We are always on the lookout for reliable and responsible adults to aid

our schoolchildren on their way, to and from school. If you would like to join us then please contact the school on 01843 821384 or the Co-ordinator Brian Portanier Tel: 01843 822975 for more information. We will be losing much valued parents who help with the walking bus when their children move on to Secondary School at the end of the school year. So new help will be greatly appreciated.

Another great reason to join the walking busJust some of the future events held for Walking Bus FamiliesSaturday June 10th - Kent’s biggest Teddy Bears’ Picnic organised for Walk-

ing Bus families. To be held in grounds of Rochester Castle.Sunday July 16th - Seaside Safari at 10.30am, Westgate Bay, Westgate, Than-

Minster Twinning AssociationBonjour mes amis and welcome to more news from the Twinning. The Big Race Night in the Village Hall was an unqualified success

and if you missed it then make a note in your diary for next year as arrangements are already underway to repeat the event. The Anniversary Celebration was also an outstanding success and hopefully you will already have read all about it as they say.

So what’s next on the agenda you may ask? Well we are not short on ideas and apart from a racing event at the Flower Show in July and a team entry for a clay pigeon shoot at Armbouts Cappel in September, we are organising a Boot Fair during the Minster Open Gardens weekend. Details are as follows, the Boot Fair will be held in front of the John Spanton Pavilion on the recreation ground on Saturday 17th June. Pitches will be available at a cost of £5 per pitch and a donation from the sale of pitches will go to the church. You need to provide your own table. Should you wish to partake of this opportunity to make some ready cash then see Bob at the Attic to purchase your place. Numbers are limited owing to space as the recreation ground also serves as the car park for visitors to the open gardens. So don’t delay, get round early and reserve your plot.

Arrangements for the exchange visit of children between Armbouts Cappel and Minster C E Primary school are all finalised and hopefully everything will go according to plan and the weather will be more than kind.

That’s it for this time, if I have forgotten anything then its too late to add it and if I haven’t then its still too late.

Cycling Centre in Canterbury. The odd shaped building in the city wall opposite Fenwicks is the new cycle centre, but it’s more

than just a cycle shop!Over 10 years ago, Spokes, the East Kent Cycling Group, proposed that the Whitefriars Develop-

10 years on, this first purpose built centre, run by Cycles UK, was due to open this spring - (it may be open now, havent been into Canterbury for a while!. Ed), but will be worth a look when next you are there. (Information and photo taken from the Spokes Magazine of Spring 2006)

School script This months’ editors are again Sophie Partridge and Jemma

Horton. We didn’t have much time last month so the editors haven’t changed. We hope that you enjoy this month’s issue as much as you did the last, so enjoy!!

Guess who’s training to be Peer Mediators?By Sophie ShervingtonEight, year 5 children went on a course to learn how to be-

come Peer Mediators. Two people from the Thanet Mediation Service came into school to train them. They’re being trained to help children sort out playground disputes by peaceful problem solving.

Drama clubs Romeo and Juliet.By Fern Walters. As most of you will know by now Minster School’s drama club

are doing Shakespeare’s story of love and death, Romeo and Juliet. Laura Rochford will be playing Juliet, Tyler Webster will be playing Romeo and I will also be playing the nurse. We are doing a modern day version of the story. And half of us are Chav’s (people who talk slang) and half of us are Goths (people who go around wearing black make-up and black clothes). But I will be dressed differently - I shall be dressed as Nanny 911. So thank you to my mum.

How long until HindleapWarren?By Sophie partridgeIt is only one more week until our year 6 pupils go off to

Hindleap Warren. The year 6 children are really excited. They are really eager to get on the coach and set off to Hindleap activities.

With the sats over and the Hindleap only a week away they are nearly jumping off the walls, they can’t wait!

Feast of fun at Hindleap Warren. On the 22nd of May, year 6 is going on a fantastic week trip to

Hindleap Warren. With Mr Beake, Mr Denny, Miss Mortimer, Mrs Stone and Mrs Wooky. Not every year 6 pupil is going, but they all had the opportunity to go. All pupils will love it and have a great time.

We’re ready for a challenge.By Tessa Loftus and Emma Winslow. Minster C of E Primary school year 5 and 6 children are

doing a competition to choose 12 committed children to take part in a green goblin car kit challenge.

There have been lots of keen and excited people willing to have a go, however lots will be disappointed. This challenge will be organised by Mr Beake and Miss Adelsberg.

The opening challenge, to decide the 12 children, is to design a poster of a car that is streamlined and they have to also do a detailed picture of a motor, brakes and steering.

On Tuesday and Fridays there will be an after school club to make the car. The after school club will be 3:15pm to 5:30pm.

The race will take place at Chatham House on the 10th June. There will be six drivers and six engineers.

A sneak preview of the inside of the car, the rest of it is under wraps until its completed.
