Microwaved Water and Plants

Below is a science fair project that my granddaughterdid for 2006. In it she took filtered water anddivided it into two parts. The first part she heatedto boiling in a pan on the stove, and the second

part she heated to boiling in a microwave. Thenafter cooling she used the water to water twoidentical plants to see if there would be anydifference in the growth between the normal boiledwater and the water boiled in a microwave. She

was thinking that the structure or energy of thewater may be compromised by microwave. As itturned out, even she was amazed at the difference.

Followup. We have seen a number ofcomments on this, such as what was thewater in the microwave boiled in.

The thinking is that maybe some leaching tookplace if it was in plastic.

It was boiled in a plastic cup, so this could bea possibility.

Also it was not a double blind experiment, soshe knew which was which when wateringthem.

On top of that she was wanting the microwaved onesto do poorly, and although most scientists woulddismiss the idea, it is possible that her thoughtstoward each plant had an effect as well.

Bottom line is, the results are interesting, andduplicate the results that others have reported (tryGoogling '"microwaved water" plants') moreexperiments need to be done with better controlsand as a double blind study.

But this was a simple 6th grade science fair project,and was never intended to be anything more thanthat.

ChurchThis holy water is also used by the priest to sprinkle the people

before the beginning of Mass. He will have a pail-like vesselcalled an "aspersory" to hold the holy water, and into this hewill dip a stick called an "aspergillum" (or an "aspergill"). Theaspergillum has holes in it to catch droplets of the water, and

the priest's swinging it toward the congregation causes thedrops of water to fly out. This blessing of the congregationbefore Mass is called "Asprges" and the accompanying,chanted words come from Psalm 50:

Baptism(Matter and Form of the Sacrament)

The priest pours water over the headof the candidate three times,once after each mention ofthe Divine Persons.The water he uses will have beenconsecrated during the Easter Vigilor on the Eve of the Pentecost.As he pours the water,the priest says these words :

Priest: I baptize you
