Geting sared

For his projec exploring The Birth of Venus as par o my design,I was insanly drawn o he hemes o love and rouble. Love is

mischievous and advenurous, ye i oen seems o cause rouble.

One way I demonsraed his is by showing a gang o Cupids

geing ino rouble as hey escape rom he hear o Venus.

I didn wan o sop here and waned o inroduce a variey o

conrasing elemens. I am ascinaed wih conrasing ideas,

juxaposing a so and hard edge, exure versus la graphic, or

dark agains ligh.

To creae my design, I used many eaures ha were inroduced in

Illusraor CS5 as well as hose ha are new in Illusraor CS6,waning o give my work a more hand-drawn, organic eel.

Drawing all he linesVenus body is rendered in a soer, painerly way o pay homage o

he original Boicelli paining while he elemens ha luer, ly, and

swirl around her are more graphic and modern in syle.

I always like o sar an image by irs drawing all he lines. I use

varying widhs, syles, and ransparencies o ge he lines o eel

he way I wan.

The way I consruc and creae an image is hard o describe. In ac,

I can ake you hrough every hough, bu I can highligh how I do

use cerain Adobe Illusraor eaures o achieve my inal image.

I think behind the best image is an idea

that makes you thinkdo a double take

The splaer consiss o hundreds o

vecor shapes. To save disk space, I

convered he splaer ino a Symbol.

To do so, I seleced he splaer group,

hen dragged i o he Symbols panel

o creae a new symbol, which I

named Splaer.

Ink splater

I like o add exure o my work, and one wayI did his was o ake a scan o an ink splaer,

and conver i o vecor pahs using he new

Image Trace in Illusraor CS6.

Once he symbol was creaed, I added as

many o he splaer symbols as I liked o

he image, roaing and skewing hem o i.

By creaing a symbol, I reduced he ile size

o he image by roughly 12MB because he

splaer was sored as a symbol.

What used to take half an hour or longer

to render, now only takes a few seconds

to process with new 64-bit native support

in Illustrator CS6. Te faster execution

really helps my creative process.
