Today was Social Club!! Today was our first Social Club of the school year! We focused on getting to know each other and learning to build ‘friend files’. We all begin collecting friend files as soon as we meet someone. In one of my student’s friend files I have that he enjoys trains and learning about historic ships. In another, I have it noted that she enjoys bugs and creatures of all kinds. As we build friend files we are able to make connections with others – perhaps I remember that my friend Amanda likes Mexican food. I may want to invite her out with me the next time I go out to eat at a Mexican restaurant. That’s friend files in action! For more info check out this month’s blog entry on my webpage under ‘Monthly Musings’. This month’s entry is entitled, ‘Nice To Meet You…what was your name again?’ http://www.scasd.org/Page/16014

Popular Lunch Bunch Games
The Curse of the Ruby Rhino
Suitable for all ages- this is a very popular one amongst my students! There is even a story that goes with it that the children love to hear me tell (I have it memorized now, which wows them even more).
The object of the game is to get rid of all of their coins and claim the ruby rhino (thus breaking the curse). There are even secret codes on the dice for them to decode. Very cool!
Purchasing Power: I bought it at a great price at Ollie’s a couple of years ago, but it can be found at Amazon
Sometimes I’ll get requests for information about some of my Lunch Bunch games. I’ll occasionally include a
few of the most popular here!
I Read At the suggestion of Dr. Peter Montminney I read, “Planting Seeds: Practicing Mindfulness with Children” by Thich Nhat Hanh in order to get more ideas and grounded understanding of our Mindful Morning time. Though it doesn’t appear to be designed for the classroom, one can sift through the ideas presented in order to help children with their stress management and assist them in being present in the moment.
